Colin Hawkins (1945) was born in Blackpool, England, and won a scholarship to art school at the age of thirteen. He and his wife, Jacqui Hawkins, produced their first children’s book, Witches, in 1981 and over one hundred titles have followed since then.
This book and it's companion books (Tog the Dog, Pat the Cat, etc) are perfect for the pre-readers's first jump into reading alone. They use chunking/rhyming to make sounding out words easy. They are short, so your reader doesn't get bored/frustrated/tired. They are also clever with fun illustrations.
This Fun with Phonics book explores the short e with a simple story and a spinning word wheel. Young readers will like the interactive nature of the book and the bright pictures but the story is too simple to be memorable.
