A baby who sleeps well is no accident of luck. Parents hold the key and this title shows how to unlock your child's natural ability to sleep through the night from the first weeks of life. It sets out a simple method that can be applied throughout childhood so that broken, disrupted nights never need be a problem. Taking the cue from the baby, and working with parents' natural instincts to help their child, this book puts parents in charge. Avoiding conflict over sleep, this recommended approach builds trust, communication and confidence in your relationship with your baby.
The principles in this book seem very sound and the approach to sleep is logical. I like the compromise between leaving the baby to cry and running immediately to fulfill her every need. The author brought up many new things for me to think about- many things connected to baby's sleep that I hadn't thought of before. I will read it again about the time baby comes- more slowly this time and then see how the method works!
EDIT: after having sleep trained my baby using this method I give the book 5 stars for it worked perfectly for me!
I may be being unfair giving this book a 3 star rating, essentially because there is little advice for bed sharers and a focus on baby in own bed in own room, which isn't the way I want my baby to sleep. however, what I would say is this is very easy to read and take bits of advice from. I finally understand the point of putting baby down drowsy but awake, even if I'm not yet ready to try the ideas in this book.
I should have read this months ago but didn't have the time. This book has given me the answers to questions that I've had for months. Our 9 month old doesn't sleep thorough the night, at all, but this book gave me a few reasons why that may be. I'd recommend it for new parents.
