Brenda Scott Royce’s books, like her life, mix monkeys and mayhem. Her novels MONKEY LOVE (2006) and MONKEY STAR (2007) chronicle the misadventures of Holly Heckerling, a stand-up comedienne who befriends a monkey while juggling career and romantic entanglements. A former chimpanzee caregiver, Brenda is editor of the Los Angeles Zoo's award-winning magazine, ZOO VIEW. She has contributed to the Huffington Post and penned several episodes of the Disney Junior series, CHUGGINGTON. Brenda's children's books include two titles in the ASPCA's Pet Rescue Club series (CHAMPION'S NEW SHOES and BAILEY THE WONDER DOG) and nonfiction animal books for the Smithsonian Institution, Discovery, Animal Planet, and NatGeo Kids.
The beginning of an incredible series for early readers. Included in this book are 6 Easy Reader titles. Each one comes with a quiz and fact cards. More importantly they cover topics that fascinate preschoolers, such as animals, insects, vehicles, and outer space with simple language and stunning photography. The combination of simple text to produce success for early readers and amazing content is a huge win. An impressive amount of planning and care went into creating these non-fiction books for the earliest readers.
A lovely book for early readers. The pictures are bright and colorful and the writing is informative, yet easy for little ones to understand. Covers topics: Safari Animals, Animal Habitats, Insects, Vehicles, Outer Space, and Reptiles. At the end of each section is a mini comprehension quiz and cute little vocab cards, and a glossary. If I was still teaching first grade, I would definitely want this series in my classroom.
