Brian Solis is principal at Altimeter Group, a research firm focused on disruptive technology. A digital analyst, sociologist, and futurist, Solis has studied and influenced the effects of emerging technology on business, marketing, and culture. Solis is also globally recognized as one of the most prominent thought leaders and published authors in new media. His new book, What's the Future of Business (WTF), explores the landscape of connected consumerism and how business and customer relationships unfold and flourish in four distinct moments of truth. His previous book, The End of Business as Usual, explores the emergence of Generation-C, a new generation of customers and employees and how businesses must adapt to reach them. Prior to End of Business, Solis released Engage, which is regarded as the industry reference guide for businesses to market, sell and service in the social web.
Priming the mind is the foundation to paving the future. Brian emphasizes the importance of one’s psychology in order to mindshift through a series of leadership phases and shape the future. The inspiring anecdotes also make his insight stick!
I have selected this book as Stevo's Business Book of the Week for the week of 10/20, as it stands heads above other recently published books on this topic.
In "Mindshift: Transform Leadership, Drive Innovation, and Reshape the Future", Brian Solis presents a compelling argument for leaders to rethink how they approach innovation and change in an increasingly digital world. Solis emphasizes that in order to lead effectively in the age of disruption, individuals must cultivate a mindset that embraces adaptability, creativity, and empathy. The book provides a roadmap for leaders to not only understand emerging technologies but also to reshape organizational culture in a way that empowers employees to think differently and collaboratively. Solis's use of real-world examples and case studies adds depth to his thesis, making his ideas both practical and inspiring.
What sets "Mindshift" apart is Solis’s focus on the human side of leadership in the digital era. He argues that technology is only as transformative as the people who wield it, encouraging leaders to focus on fostering a culture of learning and curiosity. Solis also highlights the importance of emotional intelligence and a growth mindset, noting that innovation stems from the ability to challenge norms and remain open to new possibilities. While the book is particularly relevant for executives and business leaders, its broader insights on navigating change and leading with purpose will resonate with anyone striving to make a meaningful impact in today’s fast-paced world.
As someone who studies human behavior and culture through a health and beauty lens, this book spoke directly to how identity shapes outcomes. Brian Solis does not ask you to simply adopt new habits. He challenges you to reorganize your entire cognitive architecture so that you can create from possibility instead of fear or legacy conditioning.
The six stage model became a practical roadmap for me. Receive. Perceive. Weave. Conceive. Believe. Achieve. It is a progression that feels intuitive and grounded in the neuropsychology of transformation. I also loved the “beginner’s mind” lens. I see this as the ultimate beauty biohack. At any age, you can reprogram how you think about what is possible for you.
What impressed me most was that Mindshift is not just another leadership book. It is a toolkit for self re evolution. It gives language to what many of us are already feeling in this era of accelerated change. That the world is rewarding adaptability, curiosity, and reinvention. And that those qualities are just as important as knowledge, pedigree, or expertise.
If you are building a life or business that is visionary, relevant, future leaning, and culture forming, this book will not just inspire you. It will sharpen your strategy and expand the way you imagine your own potential.
In my opinion... this book provides the missing piece of the transformation puzzle.
In today's unpredictable, AI-accelerated markets, the need to continuously change to stay relevant and ahead of customer demand is a constant. However, the precursor to successful change lies in a shift in mindset, and that’s where most struggle. Brian Solis offers a proven 6-stage framework (Receive – Perceive – Weave – Conceive – Believe – Achieve) to help facilitate this crucial mindset shift.
Brian goes further, sharing actionable advice on how to unlock innovation and starting change with a significant minority before scaling. For leaders, long-term sustainable business growth isn’t about a single mindset shift, but a series of them. His 6-stage process creates a virtuous cycle of transformation, to be applied repeatedly.
When leading teams, these 6 stages of mindset shifting serve as teachable moments, ensuring everyone is aligned, contributing ideas, and ready for the necessary changes to achieve their goals and reshape the future.
So much wisdom and practical advice based on Brian's decades of experience - my copy is so dog-eared...
Not often can you say that a business book really spurred you to take you in new directions right away, but this one did. I think about it a lot during my day, just little things like the emphasis on using Beginner's Mind.
This would be a great book for someone starting out in business, or moving into more managerial/impact roles, or anyone who seeks to inspire and effect change. It's a business book by categorization, but it's applicable to personal growth and life generally, too.
Loved it. Mindshift offers a transformative roadmap for leadership in volatile times, centered on a six-stage mindshift framework: Receive, Perceive, Weave, Conceive, Believe, Achieve.
Engaging anecdotes, tools for self-awareness, and a focus on virtuous cycles of change make it highly practical and inspiring. Reviewers love its emphasis on unlearning biases to seize opportunities in disruption. Essential reading for anyone building innovative, empathetic cultures. Appreciated the use cases and frameworks that we could carry into our restructuring projects and careers.
Brian Solis' Mindshift is an extremely insightful book that is chock-full of examples to help business people literally change their mind to the positive with regard to innovation. I highly recommend it.
I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway.
This was a well written book. Easy for me to understand even though it does not really apply to my current life situation. It was an interesting read with a lot of interesting and good information.
