This was a lovely story of love with sadness, if you've read 10 tiny breaths it was quite similar. It would have got 5 stars, but lost 1 because after getting to know Kass and Maddon so well each chapter was told in one or the others POV, the ending was too abrupt just a short epilogue and I felt a little let down. Otherwise definitely worth a read.
Kassandra lost her father to a car accident caused by Maddon’s father. Maddon is a guy that goes to the same school as Kassandra. After loosing her father so suddenly, Kassandra is struggling to find who she is and who she wants to be. The life before the death of her father seems almost unreal to her. Maddon just wants to comfort Kassandra and take her pain away but he knows that will never happen. Kassandra hates Maddon and that his dad killed hers.
Kassandra not only is a teenager, but after the death of her father, she has to care for her little sister. Their mom fell into a grieving period where it was almost as if she wasn’t there. As Kassandra learns more about herself and who she wants to be, she starts to get close to the one person she NEVER wanted to look at again, Maddon.
So much craziness in less than 300 pages in dual perspective! I recently, as in this year, started reading Tiffany’s books and have become obsessed to say the least. She is very good at writing an emotional read without taking it too far or making it unrealistic.
I loved Kassandra’s character; she is incredibly strong for someone so young and what has been placed on her shoulders. Caring for her younger sister wasn’t easy. I love that despite the death of their dad and the grief, she was able to put her emotions aside and truly care for her sister and even her mom. Maddon was such a sweet guy, you can’t help but love him.
Maddon knows Kassandra Cole. He's seen her around school. She's the captain of the cheer squad and in the popular crowd. In other words, they don't run in the same crowd at all. While Kassandra has it all, Maddon has nothing. Trying to avoid his alcoholic father and the beating that go with him, he's just trying to survive high school. All that changes when Kassandra's father is lost in a terrible car accident. The one responsible is the one Maddon's been avoiding. Now he can't seem to avoid Kassandra. Drawn to her strength, he never expected to be a part of her life but healing sometimes happens in unexpected ways changing people forever.
My Thoughts:
5 stars - A heart wrenching story of love and healing that I loved
What does one say of a Tiffany King book? This is my second one and both times her characters captured my heart and didn't let go. My heart broke for both Kassandra and Maddon. I hurt for them. I cheered for them. I cried for them. And I wanted to hug them. Tiffany does a excellent job of creating strong, real characters and I believe that is what makes her books so fabulous.
Another thing that sets this book apart is the difficult topics that are addressed in it. This isn't just a boy from the wrong crowd falls for a popular girl kind of story. No, this story is dealing with some painful life issues along the way. It feels real. I recognize these issues from my students life's and I'm so glad that there are books out there that will help young peeps as well as entertain them.
Another good one from Tiff. Make sure you make time for Forever Changed, cause it's gonna have an effect on you.
Quotes I loved
He pulled back after a moment. I opened my eyes to find him studying me intently. Self-consciously, I loosened my hold on the back of his head.
"Don't," he said a bit raggedly.
"Don't what?" I asked confused.
"Don't let go of me," he said, dropping his lips back onto mine. (Kindle location 2421 or 5544)
"We have to because I'm not ready to give you up when I just found you." (Kindle location 4179 of 5544)
"Gotcha, now scram so I can kiss my girl one more time," he told Drake, never taking his eyes from mine. (Kindle location 4245 of 5544)
This is my first book by the talented T. King and I loved this book for so many reasons. The writing is effortless and the characters came across real and vivid, I was lost in the story from the beginning and it ended much too quickly for me.
I think most of us can identify with this story – the story of loss. In this case though, out of tragedy and loss came love, forgiveness and redemption which was truly beautiful. I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster that was not only captivating but heart breaking and yummy. I found it quite powerful at times and needed a tissue or two!
Kassandra and Maddon’s journey begins when a tragedy occurs which binds them irrevocably. I loved them both; they were honest lovable characters from very different ends of the social spectrum, they felt so real I found it really hard to let them go once I had finished their story.
My heart truly broke for Kass as she had to put her grieving process on the back burner for the sake of her Mum and her younger sister ‘Peanut’. Peanut made me cry! Kass was abandoned by the very people who should have been there to comfort her and I wanted to pick her out of my kindle, give her a cuddle then put her in my pocket for safe-keeping.
I loved having Maddon’s POV, it made me understand him and love him and I could feel what he felt, his guilt and his subsequent actions. His childhood and his relationship with his Dad broke my heart! Considering what ultimately brought them together; their connection, this story saw two lost and broken souls heal each other through love and understanding. It was beautiful.
I would love more on these two characters and definitely more Tiffany King!
What can I say. I'm a sucker for Tiffany King's love stories. She gets me right through the heart.I HAVE to read her soulmate series now. THis book was beyond amazing. While the feminist in me is lamenting that the girl in this book gets pulled out of her personal darkness the hopeless romantic in me is sighing. I am no Anastasia Steele. I don't do inner monolouge. LOL. Back to the story. Yes, she gets pulled out of her darkness by a boy. But really Kass is a strong girl without Maddon. We see that. I think there is so much deeper meaning in King's stories. It's about the love and loss of family. Sometimes the families suck....think WISHING FOR SOMEDAY SOON here. Overall there is good in family. Sibilings, adoptive families (aunts). It's really that kind of love that pulls her heroines through. They know they have self worth because so many depend on them. It's beautiful. It's also a wonderful feeling to be loved outside of your family. I think that's what the romance part is saying. Maddon didn't install Kass's sense of self worth. He just helped Kass find it. She was shattered and he and her remaining family pulled her back together. Tiffany King has a new fangirl. Hello, my name is Lori Parker and I have no less than 6 author crushes. I think I have a problem. :D
This is not the first book I've read by Tiffany King so Im familiar with her work.I enjoyed this story.Kassandra's father was killed by a drunk driver with road rage,Maddon is her fathers killer's son. They both go to the same high school and eventually get to know each other. In the beginning of the book I was a upset at how Kassandra's mother reacted to her husbands death and let Kassandra deal with it all. That was so unfair to Kassandra. When Kassandra and Madden start hanging out she is so conflicted,I cannot even begin to imagine how I would be feeling or how my emotions were in that sitation.Kassandra was mature about it and on only one occassion did I get slightly upset with her.
The only bone I have to pick with this book is that I feel the ending and conflict were too abrupt. The conflict and ending were summed up in a few chapters.I would have loved and I mean loved to have had a few extra chapters for Kassandra and Madden to Iron out everything and just see what happens after the ending.Im so trying not to be confusing,But I just felt the book was ended a bit to abruptly for the type of book it is.Overall I enjoyed this and would recommend reading it.
Wow....I really don't know what to say. I thought this book was wonderful. This is the first book I have read by Tiffany, so I didn't know what to expect. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. I truly enjoyed the alternating POV. My only negative was I thought it ended kind of abruptly. I guess I just expected a little more before the epilogue. Still a great read. I will definitely be rereading this book over and over in the future.
Yet again, Tiffany writes another AMAZING book!! I loved this book. Once I started I couldn't put it down keeping me up until 4 am. Just loved it!!Tiffany King
Tiffany King has done it again! I know that’s a very typical phrase to throw out, especially at the beginning of a review, but I really mean it. When her book Wishing For Someday Soon came out, I got a copy and devoured it. I loved it. It’s the same with Forever Changed. I’ve been eager to get my hands on this book since I first heard of its release and I wasn’t disappointed at all.
To begin with a life changing tragedy isn’t always the way an author will go when writing a story. It’s more common to build up a character, then have that character altered by an event later on. King switched that. We start after Kassandra’s father dies, when she is forced to look at life much differently and become an adult. The reader gets a glimpse into who Kassandra used to be throughout the book as well. I think through this method of the character’s development it allowed for further insight into the growth, as opposed to having a major change at the end of the book. Sometimes with that, there’s only a few chapters in which to enjoy the “new” character.
I especially enjoyed Kassandra’s sister Megan. King seems to have a gift in creating younger characters that break your heart and put a smile on your face at the same time. Because Megan became mute after her father’s death, there isn’t dialogue from her. The reader only knows of her actions and emotions through Kassandra’s point of view. In her case, I think her non-verbal communication was far more effective than any dialogue that could have been written for her. This was a big reason I loved the book.
For the story itself, I went into it a little doubtful to how it’d work. When Kassandra’s and Maddon’s lives are thrown together in the way that they are it worked well for me. At first I was like “this can’t happen in real life,” but it wasn’t long until I changed that opinion. When a person is the way they are (like these characters) abnormal circumstances are only obstacles to get over and not let stop you. Overall it worked for me. The entire story line worked.
On the whole, King has another 5 star book in my eyes. Her characters are lovable, some deserve a slap in the face, others are cute and wise beyond their years. The story was great. The themes in this book, of love and family, make the reader think about their own lives. I know I took it all in and saw where I could relate and where I could only imagine how I’d deal with a certain situation.
After reading this book and Wishing For Someday Soon. I know for sure that I will be reading her Saving Angels Series very soon.
Kassandra loses her father in a terrible accident caused by Maddon's father. She hates Maddon for what has happened to her family. Maddon can't stop thinking of Cassandra and what his father did to her family. He blames himself and wants nothing more than to get to know Kassandra and take her pain away. After her father's death, she struggles to discover who she wants to be and redeem herself from the person she was before his death. She finds something in Maddon that she never thought she could feel and has he takes her pain away, she can't help falling for him.
I liked how strong Kassandra was. The loss of her father was devastating but she picked herself up and carried the burden as her mother and sister became overwhelmed with grief. I liked that she could look back on who she was before his death and see herself in a completely different light. I thought it was very mature of her to see past her anger and give Maddon a chance. I think the best thing about Maddon was that he didn't let his father's behavior and his broken home dicate who he was. He chose to be better than his father and be his own person. I loved that he was so broken up about what his father did and just wanted to take Kass' pain away.
I enjoyed reading Forever Changed and I thought it was well written and had a great plot. The characters were strong and captivating. I gave it 3.5 stars only because I felt like the romance between Kassandra and Maddon was a little rushed. One minute she hated him and the next minute she was in love with him. I felt like after everything they went through, it would take more time for her to open up to him and for them to come together. Overall, I am really glad I picked this book up and I would encourage you to do it too.
Tiffany King has yet again left me breathless. I thought Wishing For Someday Soon was a tear jerk-er, Forever Changed had me in tear in the first couple of pages. I loved how Tiffany allowed Maddon’s POV come into play, it made me love him even more than I already did. I mean how could you not love him? Feeling guilty about his father who caused so much pain to her family, but still managing to watch and stick up for a her when they have never met, speaks volumes to me. Sometimes fate has a mysterious and sometimes horrific way to bring two people together, Kassandra and Maddon are prime examples of that. I also loved how Tiffany named the book after Maddon’s band; it just fit perfectly and can totally picture the entire scenario playing out.
High School, everyone has been there. Everyone had to deal with the “clicks” much like Kassandra, but I have to say I give her tremendous respect for walking away from the people who turned out to be fake when it could have been just as easy to maintain the same charade. Just goes to show you that sometimes we all need to sit back and re-evaluate the people we call friends.
Maddon and Kassandra love was inspiring and consuming. It left me giddy and hopeful that maybe, just maybe, we can all find that fairytale ending. With that I am only going to leave one quote from this truly amazing book, because well I think it sums it up pretty well!
“I laughed too, enjoying life fully for the first time in as long as I could remember. One tragic event had changed everything. Shifting our lives to bring us together and we would be forever changed because of it.”
Just when I thought I could not love Tiffany King more, she goes and writes another outstanding book.
Here is a back story of me: This one hits a little close to home, because I lost my dad about the same age as Kassandra. My mother went through the same depression as Kassandra. I did rebel like Kassandra, too. The only difference was I did not have a sibling to take care of.
There was some serious tears that I shed while reading the book. Tiffany King really knows how to tug at the heart strings. Kassandra's dad is killed in a car accident because of Maddon's father's road rage. Kassandra and Maddon are night and day: she is a cheerleader and very popular and he is in a band and is not that popular. However, their worlds are now entwined and Kassandra sees that Maddon is nothing like his father.
The question becomes will they be able to have a relationship? Considering all that has happen to them it would be extremely hard. Maddon is nothing like his father, though everyone assumes he is. Kassandra now has all these new responsibilities and still just be a high school student.
I think Tiffany did an wonderful job on this book and would recommended it to anyone and everyone!
This is a beautifully written story of forgiveness, of learning to forgive others and to forgive oneself while finding redemption. I am always amazed at the power of words and the way amazing authors are able to wield them, and King has once created a true masterpiece. Looking at the life of high school students, how everything can change in an instant, and the definition of true friendships, King takes the reader on a powerful, breathtaking rollercoaster ride; this is a must read!
I found Forever Changed to be a captivating, delicious novel that held my attention from start to finish. Kassandra and Maddon’s story, while heartbreaking and touching, is happy and uplifting as well, and I truly enjoyed it. Though I cried many times throughout the novel, this is a very powerful read that I believe all will enjoy. Both Kassandra and Maddon are genuine, lovable characters that feel so real you won’t want to let them go at the end of the novel. I am a fan for life!
Forever Changed is a beautiful story about finding love in the most unexpected places at the most unexpected time. Kassandra and Maddon are both such beautiful characters who come from such different places... but yet they really do have a lot more in common. I felt for Kassandra and Maddon both, for different reasons.
Tiffany King wrote a beautiful story, that had me feeling numerous emotions throughout the book.... sadness, anger, thoughtful, happiness, and most of all love.
Kassandra is a typical teen whose top priorities involve her social world, friends, texting, and cheerleading. But when tragedy hits her family and her life is changed and she becomes responsible as she matures in many ways. Maddon lives with a daily tragedy of his own, but when a similar tragedy occurs that involves both Kassandra and Maddon their lives will never be the same. This book is a great teen book about friendship, life, loss, trust, forgiveness and love. For more indie book reviews: Myindieauthorfix.com
Wonderful, emotion packed, lovely book. The characters are lovable, deep, interesting. Good writing, nice pacing that just keeps you into the story. I didn't have a dull moment I recommend this one
I remember why I liked this in middle school and honestly it’s still pretty good.
Sure, it could have been edited a bit more, but the actual plot and character development was nicely done. Kass went through a lot, and she grew well.
I did find it a little weird that in the first half, Maddon’s chapters are 1-3 pages of him simping over Kass from a distance. And there should have been more in the end/epilogue considering how much they went through and their conflict. There should have at least been a conversation between them talking about what happened.
But I did like Kass’s chapters and how she was really trying to reconnect with her mom and sister now that their world had changed.
Kassandra's world has come to a crashing halt. Her father passed away, her little sister is in shock and has gone mute and her mother is a ghost of her former self. With the realization that things will never be the same, Kassandra faces who she was and decides who it is she really wants to be.
Life for Kassandra starts off incredibly bleak in Forever Changed. The first couple of chapters are so full of sorrow and pain that it actually made it hard for me to read. This book hit a little close to home for me and brought me back to a time when I felt a lot of Kassandra's pain. Losing a parent is never easy and author Tiffany King does an excellent job in depicting the grief that Kassandra and her family are going through. It was so real and so raw I had to put the book down a couple of times as I was already in tears a few pages in.
But as the story progresses we begin to see a glimmer of hope shine through. As little by little Kassandra slowly puts the pieces of her life back together, but things aren't all rainbows and happiness once she has accepted the fact of what her life has become. Oh no, her life is far from it. Those she thought would be there for her suddenly aren't and suddenly she is dealing with not only the loss of her father, but of those she once called friends. With so many things going wrong for Kassandra it is amazing that she didn't become a complete shell and hide under a rock. Okay, so maybe she was a shell, but she pushed on, putting on that brave face for her little sister each and every day.
Kassandra's life went from happiness and sunshine, cheerleading and friends, to pain and sorrow, lonliness and grief; in the blink of an eye. Enter Maddon, the son of the man responsible for killing Kassandra's father and you have the recipe for an explosive story! And that's exactly what happens once Maddon enters the scene. Suddenly Maddon becomes the target of all of Kassandra's anger and pain, but Maddon understands a thing or two about anger and pain. After living with the two as siblings his entire life Maddon has learned to accept the things that life throws at him and channel it into something more soothing--music!
I absolutely adored all the characters in Forever Changed. Tiffany King does such a great job helping you connect with her characters, making them as real as any person you would find at the local high school. Forever Changed is amazingly beautiful and will have you so lost in the story of Kassandra that you won't even notice time slipping by until you have finished the story. Tiffany King has the amazing ability to bring out all your emotions as a reader. She uses each one to build a story about life that can be related to by almost anybody.
Make sure you pick up this raw beauty and fall in love with way that Tiffany King weaves a story!
FOREVER CHANGED was my first Tiffany King read and it met every expectation of a great Summer Read and a Great Contemporary Romance!
The story opens up with Kass, she’s attending her father’s funeral and we start to discover what her father’s death has brought upon her and her family. As if that whole scenario wasn’t emotional enough, suddenly Tiffany King delivers what I feel was the “moment” I fell for her writing. In one simple paragraph she gave us the first moment between Kass and Maddon with enough venom that I’m pretty sure I feared a bit for Maddon’s safety! (Last paragraph of the first chapter; sorry don’t want to spoil it for you!) Moments like that in reading, well they are the moments I live for. That second in a book that you get sucked under and dragged through this world that the author built only to get dumped out at the other side feeling like you ate, slept and breathed with the characters. As we continue on through FOREVER CHANGED the emotion and expertly delivered scenes never lack. The experience of Kass and Maddon’s back and forth, trying to understand their feelings and deal with the tragic event that tore their lives apart, while that same moment is somehow bringing them together, it was moving and emotional to say the least.
From page one I was tied to Kass, then by page six I was hooked on Maddon. As each character is added to the story I continued to eat them up. This story would have never been as powerful as it was if King didn’t deliver the level of clarity in her characters that she did. She somehow was able to peel back each characters skull to let you look inside and see what they are thinking, feeling and wanting. I was so engulfed and addicted to each one, I eventually started checking the page count and wanted to scream each time we got closer to 149.
One major thing that shocked me about the writing is that it is in alternating POVs of Kass and Maddon, which if you have read my other reviews you know it’s sometimes a deal breaker for me. So, I thought I would put it out there that the POV changes are done with ease and provide a major insight into the plot and characters that without would have killed the story.
The one thing that I didn’t really like about the book was that with it didn’t due the gradual ending that I needed. Like I said I was addicted to the characters and emotion in the story so I feel like maybe it could have been a tad longer allowing more of a tie up in the story.
All and all? Great read, I would recommend to any of my friends and definitely recommend you pick it up!
Conflicting emotions expertly drawn through a moving story:
Tiffany King demonstrates a talent for taking a character through personality and emotional changes, showing an evolvement from the behaviour of a child to the behaviour of an adult. In my humble opinion, this is the mark of a good YA story… showing that very transition into maturity. And King writes this behavioural switch effortlessly through a page-turning storyline.
Kassandra is Miss Popularity in High School – a somewhat spoilt and self-indulgent young lady whose priorities are brutally turned around by a family tragedy that takes her father and throws her life and family into turmoil. Burdened with grief, her mother withdraws into a dissociative state, leaving Kassandra to take care of business, and take care, above all, of her little sister. Dealing with her own grief, watching her mother retreat more and more into a dysfunctional state, caring for her traumatised little sister, Kassandra is suddenly laden with responsibilities no girl of that age should have to bear.
Maddon is the abused son of the man responsible for all of this tragedy. He is also irresistibly drawn to Kassandra, even though he feels guilty and even not-worthy of anything but her scorn. And indeed scorn is what he gets as he tries to approach her… she literally hates the boy in school whose father ruined her family. Yet over time, at a carefully measured pace, the story shows how two victims of tragedy can draw together, for support, for friendship, and maybe for love.
I found the story illustrated in a skilful style by the use of alternate POVs – each chapter following the previous from Kassandra’s aspect to Maddon’s, back and forth. This keeps the pace lively, gives the reader a vivid portrayal of what both main characters are experiencing, and takes us through the exchange of feelings which this tragedy has brought about to both of them. The principal background characters – namely Kassandra’s school friends, who should be supporting her at this time – are shown to be nothing more than fickle, shallow and fair-weather friends… none of whom are worthy of much more than a slap across the wrist for being so damned vacuous! The author depicts an intelligent indicator of what TRUE friends should really be like.
At its core, this is a story of two people who are reluctant enemies, but who are drawn together despite circumstances. You can expect the twists and turns that a good story boasts, and you can expect a moving prose that leads you hungrily to keep turning those pages. Recommended.
I'm really enjoying reading Tiffany King as a Contemporary Romance author. There is an ease and comfort to her writing. Forever Changed was no different. I quickly became enraptured with the story.
The story begins with Kass at her father's funeral. My heart truly was breaking for her. This poor girl was left to take care of her family, since her mother was grieving so terribly. I felt so bad for Kass. She never really had a chance to grieve on her own. Then, her friends basically bailed on her. I just wanted to wrap her up in a hug. I think that her counselor really helped her once she admitted she was having trouble coping. Then, there was Maddon. I love Maddon. Unfortunately, it takes a tragedy to bring them together, but the love they have for each other is really endearing. Despite the controversy is causes, they can't seem to stay away from each other.
I have to mention the supporting characters. I loved Drake and Carrie, aka Slim Jim. I'd really like to see a story develop for them. I think they'd make a great couple. *hint hint*. I would also like to mention that I loved the music aspect of the story and would have loved to see more about that part of their lives.
Here's the thing, I loved the characters so much, that I wasn't ready for the story to end. The only thing keeping me from rating it a 5 was that, the development of the story was steady, but I did feel that the ending was wrapped up a little quickly. Again, I think I felt that way because, I wasn't ready for the story to end.
This book is a bittersweet love story. There is major tragedy, but what comes out of that tragedy is love. I felt like this was a beautiful read that YA and Adults could identify with and truly enjoy.
Kassandra's father is killed in an automobile accident by an enraged drunken driver. Her younger sister is injured and the trauma has left her refusing to speak. The grief is overwhelming for Kassandra's mother, leaving Kass to be the adult in the home, taking care of everything while still trying to come to terms with the guilt she feels, as she thinks it is her fault the accident happened at all.
Upon returning to school, Kass finds out just how superficial and self-absorbed her 'friends' are and realizes she has been no better. She becomes an outcast to them.
Maddon has a bad boy, rebel image, that he works hard to maintain. (Sadly, there is so much more to him, that he feels the need to hide it, is a sad statement.) He also feels responsible for the accident that killed Kass's father. His abusive, alcoholic father was the enraged driver and wouldn't have been in that place at that time, if not for Maddon.
He watches Kass from afar, until fate puts them in the same detention period. As Kass learns to forgive both herself and Maddon, Maddon learns to forgive himself. Love blooms between the unlikely pair and together they must either hide their feelings or face the unknown fallout.
As with all of Tiffany King's books, this is a richly detailed book with a message to send. It is a story of coming of age, accepting life as it is, learning to forgive and moving on. The love story between Kass and Maddon is warm with each showing an innocence, maturity, and sense of caring for others that is refreshing. With the changes of POV throughout the book, the reader is allowed in both Kass's and Maddon's heads and hearts. A wonderful 'feel good' read!
5/5 Mostanában nem igen olvastam olyan könyvet amire 5 csillagot adjak.Mindig volt valami ami nem tetszett benne, vagy hiányzott. Nos ez most megváltozott.
Well, I have to say that when I first began this book I was kind of wondering if it would pick up and if it was worth it...I feel like it began so slow. I am though, also a sucker for an awesome love story and since this started off as a tragedy I was thinking and thinking when will I get the romance I'm searching for?! Well, I got it...full blast came in from left field I didn't even know it was coming!!! Ha!
The story of Kassandra and Maddon left me wondering if they would ever be able to even make it work! I just felt so much pain for the love they both yearned for that would never come. I mean how could you possibly love the one person who took everything away from you? (Even though it literally wasn't Maddon's fault) They both felt completely responsible for each other's hurt. It was truly devastating.
I felt EVERY. SINGLE. MOMENT. they shared, this book was written exquisitely. Tiffany King is one of my favorite authors and I have to say that Forever Changed has definitely been added to my list of favorites. Now if only I can get over this book hangover so I can pick up another read from my TBR pile, that would be great!
This story of loss, love and redemption was beautifully written. The characters were wonderful - especially Maddon. Not only did he have an awesome name, he was a hot drummer as well :) The secondary characters were fantastic as well. I loved Colton, and wish we were able to see a bit more of him... I enjoyed the journey of self discovery that Kassandra was on and felt that it was told in a way that enables the reader to share the journey with her.
Tiffany has a way of eliciting such intense emotions through her writing. I was teary one minute (the funeral) and then cheering for Kassandra in the next (the 'teacher' scene). This woman has real insight and it shows in her writing.
I have to agree with Autumn (prior review) that the story felt like it ended too soon. Again, I think this was because I felt that it was too soon to say goodbye to these characters. I just didn't want the book to end! Even though the story is centred around high school students, I believe that due to the content it can appeal to mature adults and YA alike (I fit into the mature adult category).
First off, I want to say that I felt highly entertained by this book! infact, I read it in one sitting and felt like I needed more. MORE! :D
However, there were some serious flaws that bothered me after putting the book down. It even seems like the more I think about it, it gets worse and worse! All in all, let's just say that the book would have deserved to be longer. The development of Kass' and Maddon's relationship went too fast for my taste. I wanted a little more of a tease I guess. In addition, I also think the switching POV was rather unnecessary for reading this story. Infact, it would have been far more interesting to keep Maddon's feelings a secret to the reader. Like I already mentioned- a little more teasing please! The author also skipped a lot of scenes with nice reading potential. I think a lot of other goodreads-people agree with me on this point.
Okay, let's stop at this point and recall that I really liked the book after all! :) It just didn't give me 100% of joy after putting it down.
Meet Kassandra, normal teenager. By normal I mean demanding, whiny and bitchy. But everything change after her father died in car accidents that leaves her taking care of her catatonic mom and traumatic little sister. She changed. Maddon is the son of the man who killed Kass's father in car accident. He fall for Kass and her strength to taking care of her family. He fall for her brave to step out of her normal circle, popular and annoying cheerleading girls, to stay independent and strong. He fall for her. But what can he do when Kass hates him so much?
Miss King's writing is very perfect for teenagers. No hot stuff but the heat is enough to make their toe curls. I love it! The simplicity of Maddon's action towards Kass's soooo sweet. He's very gentle and full of patience. And Kass, forced to taking care of her sister, I found her very strong and independent. Not even whinning once. Very well written. :)
Nailed it, Miss King! Can't wait to read your other books!
Well it's official, Tiffany king has become one of my favorite authors. Only one complaint, she makes you fall so hard for her characters that you never want the book to end!! In one sense I want more, but at the same time she knows exactly where to leave you. I loved this book, with a book like this you have no idea where it's going to go, and that's what I love about it. It was a beautiful heartbreaking story, with amazing characters, a story of a family who was crushed by a tragedy and having to pick up the pieces up and rebuild their lives only now without the piece that held them all together. This was a story of growth, and self discovery. And how even when the worst thing imaginable happens sometimes growth and something good could come out of it.
