Rate this book
Welcome to Sultry Springs, Texas: where home can be the perfect place for a fresh start.

For West Coast filmmaker Bobbi Gallagher, going back to Sultry Springs is a last resort. But with her career in tatters, a quick trip to her hometown might get her the footage she needs to salvage her reputation. She just can't let anything distract her again. Not even the gorgeous contractor her brother asked to watch over her. As if she can't handle filming a few rowdy Texans.

Golden boy Trey Lewis, with his blond hair and Technicolor-blue eyes, is a leading man if Bobbi ever saw one. He's strong and confident and--much to her delight--usually shirtless. He thinks keeping his best friend's baby sister out of trouble will be easy. But he has no idea of the trouble in store for him...

Whoo hoo! I got an advance copy - because seriously, I'm special :-) - of SULTRY WITH A TWIST. I read it while traveling to South Korea for my son's wedding. Terrific book! Trey... yum. He really helped to pass the time.
Like the first of the Sultry books, With a Twist was fast-paced, sexy, funny, and included charming characters. A must read!
It's not out until March, but be sure to put it on your list! You won't regret it.

Returning to her home town of Sultry, Texas with her tail between her legs, documentary filmmaker Bobbie Gallagher is determined to recover her reputation and her career that is if she can keep her hands off her leading man, Trey Lewis, who also happens to be her brother’s best friend and a huge pain in her butt.

A sweet romance, but lacks that extra something that made the first book so engaging.

While Bobbie and Trey have strong chemistry and their love/hate banter is engaging, there is also an underlying layer of angst that puts a damper on their relationship. The fact that Bobbie fails to disclose the full reason for her return to Sultry does not put her in a good light and Trey’s issues with his parents are tedious.

That said, Beckett’s writing style is very smooth and the rapid pacing makes it an easy read. The final book is Colton’s and it will be interesting to see if the author can rehabilitate his man-whore character.

Macy Beckett has really turned up the dial in the second book of the Sultry Springs series. A SHOT OF SULTRY is brimming with rapier wit and heartwarming moments, making for an easy book to devour.

Bobbi and Trey are fantastic characters that are fleshed out and deeply explored. I found myself instantly liking them first as individuals, and then more so as a couple. Added to that are the endearing secondary characters who turn this book from a good read to a great one. Packed with humor and heart, A SHOT OF SULTRY is not something to be missed!

I returned to Sultry Springs for the second story in the series, A Shot of Sultry, and I couldn’t be more delighted that Trey’s story was just as enjoyable as the first book. Her writing is entertaining and funny with endearing characters which make it so easy to fall in love with them.

Trey Lewis is looking to get a fresh start in life and wants to clear his name. He’s accepted a security detail job in Dubai for the next two years and in exchange the Army will expunge his dishonorable discharge. He wants to be his own man and maybe starting a company is possible without that blot on his record.

Bobbi Gallagher needs a fresh start too. She’s Luke’s half-sister, and plans to go to Sultry and film a documentary in order to resurrect her career. Her last film tanked when her reliable source wasn’t so reliable and now she is videographer for weddings. She’s been asked to film a new reality show and she exactly where she wants to go. It may not be award winning or public awareness material, but it is her foot in the door and a way back into working again. She is going to need participants in her reality TV show and what better place for ‘redneck’ love is to go to Sultry and find some willing subjects. Lucky for her Trey is one of them.

Trey was instantly attracted to her the moment her sees her enter the bar the fun began. Trey thought he was doing Luke a favor and throwing out the skank, but to his surprise his best friend has a sister he didn’t know about. And boy is she hot! He may not like the idea of being part of her reality show, filming his love life, but it is a way to be close to her and keep an eye out for her. Trey is just one of those guys that are easy-going, fun and quite the charmer. He’s a multi-faced character and definitely one of the best hero characters I’ve read about.

Bobbi Gallagher has had a rough life and has made great strides to become the woman she is today. She may have a little OCD when it comes to messes and strange coping mechanism but that made her even more real to me. What’s wrong with a little organization? LOL. She had a strong façade but underneath she was a girl messed up with need, want and insecurity. It takes time for her to trust, even with her own brother Luke, but she found it easy with Trey to tell him her secrets and for him to just accept. They were good as individuals but they became great as a couple. They complimented each other very well.

The other secondary characters were a hoot to read and get to know especially Colt Bea, the sheriff in the town. He was the other contestant that was followed for the filming and he was a man who was seriously hurting. His story is next in the series and one that I will anxiously wait for its release. The whole story drew me in and was packed with heart and humor. The ending was kind of abrupt and tied up a little too quickly in my opinion, but it nonetheless ended with a good conclusion. A Shot of Sultry is a must read for it made me laugh and was heartfelt.

I'm not going to review this one because the author is actually a friend of mine - a Nestie in fact. My policy in regards to Nestie authors is that I don't do critical reviews. I'd be biased, obviously, because I love them, and I'd never critique a friend's work unasked or in public. So that explains the lack of critical review on this one and also gives you a heads up that I may be a bit biased in my love for this book.

With that said, you must read A Shot of Sultry! Ok, so you probably remember when I raved about Macy's first book, Sultry With A Twist, and that I raved about it endlessly. And I have to say that I think A Shot of Sultry is even better. This time we're taking a look at Luke Gallagher's best friend Trey and his romance with Luke's long-lost sister Bobbi. I love that we got to know characters introduced in the first book in a new way and that Luke and Mae June had cameos, but mainly Trey just killed me.

These books are the perfect blend of sweet and, well, sultry, and the characters are the icing on the cake. I'm so privileged to know the author and I'm thrilled that I do because, as I've mentioned before, I'm not the typical romance reader. This series wouldn't normally be on my radar, but they are seriously delightful reads. They're not your stereotypical bodice-ripper romance - they're sweet and heartfelt and character-driven. I highly recommend picking the series up - and I am waiting anxiously for the third book!

Love this series... Can't wait for book 3

Full Review:
Oh Man!!!! Book two in the Sultry Springs series is SO good. Trey, ahhhh the sweet Golden Boy finally meets his match in a feisty redhead from California. And to say their first meeting was... will eventful would be an understatement.
I loved the beginning, middle and end of this book so much. I read it in one sitting. I kept saying to myself “just one more chapter and I will put down the book and go to sleep” Needless to say at 2 am I finally did read the last chapter, wiped the tears from my eyes and went to bed very happy.
I love these character, love this series and love Macy!!! I so can’t wait to see what she has in store for our resident bad-boy sheriff, in book 3 Surrender to Sultry (Aug 1, 2013).

Again if you have not jumped into Sultry Springs Texas you really need too. You will be surprised at what can be found behind the doors of a small hick town.

If you'd like a pair of dimples you could dive into, a strong back you could cling onto, and confidence bordering on conceit, you will love Trey Lewis as much as I did!

The second installment of Macy Beckett's Sultry Springs series is even sultrier than the last. Bobbi is a unique heroine who I enjoyed getting to know, and her sidekicks Bong and Weezus are charming in their own hilarious way. Trey's profession near the end is one I'll remember always and had me dragging a sigh all the way up from the soles of my shoes.

Already Jonesin' for book #3...or should I say "Johnson"...darn it, Trey! You've infected my mind...

Trey, Trey, Trey...

I just couldn't wait to read your book and needless to say you didn't disappoint me.I fell in love with Trey Lewis in Sultry with a Twist because of his personality. Trey and Bobbi agreed to a no-strings-attached affair, but it turned out that they both cared more than they wanted to admit. When the baby scare came along it cemented their relationship for me, because it truly showed how much they cared for each other.

They both tried to move on; Trey in Dubai and Bobbi back in California, but they didn't stay apart for long. I loved how their relationship grew naturally, how they moved apart, and then how they came back together in the end.

Now to wait for Surrender in Sultry to see how Colt is doing since his accident. He truly deserves to be happy and to find him someone to love him and that he can love in return.

Macy Beckett totally nailed this book! It's rare to find a story that can entertain me so completely, but A Shot of Sultry did just that. The residents of Sultry Springs are a little crazy, some break your heart, but they all leave you feeling something and that's the connection I was hoping for! Revisiting Luke and Joonbug brought a smile to my face & I loved their interactions with Trey and Bobbi. I don't want to give away too much about Trey and Bobbi, but I will say that their chemistry was instant and holy hot tamales, it was fun to read! I can't get over how well Macy Beckett managed to balance the humor with the emotional heartache in this story. Definitely one of the best books I've read in awhile & I can't wait to read Surrender to Sultry!

Macy Beckett writes an amazing story again! You can almost feel the chemistry between Bobbi and Trey and they don't disappoint. I loved that we got more of Luke and June's story as well. This book had me laughing out loud several times. I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a smart, funny, and lovable cast of characters!

This book was just what I needed. I've been in a reading rut for quite a while now and this was the first book that I didn't want to put down. I loved Trey in Sultry With a Twist and now I love him more. My only complaint is that it ended. I wasn't ready to be done yet. Really looking forward to Colton's book.

Hmmmm, where do I begin? As I’m sitting here, I keep thinking about Trey, with his blond hair, blue eyes, fabulous smile, and the biggest dimples ever! (Yes, I have this dreamy look in my eyes and there’s a BIG smile on my face.) I read Sultry with a Twist and Trey was the guy who stole my heart. I couldn’t wait to read his story.

So the moment comes and I FINALLY get to read A Shot of Sultry. After I read the book I have to admit I was torn. Some other woman got my guy!!! Yes, I know I must step out of the book and understand Trey Lewis isn’t real. (Sigh. Sad, emotional music playing in the background.) Okay, seriously, let’s get down to business.

The new word or phrase I picked up from this book was “foodgasm”. Honestly, I’ve experienced it TONS of times. I didn’t know there was a name for it. I digress....Sugar. (You have to read the book to understand what I'm trying to say. Not that I say that a lot or anything. I wanted to put it in.)

Bobbi Gallagher is the little sister of Luke (the hero from Sultry with a Twist). They have the same mother, but different fathers. When Bobbi was about three or four years old, their mother decided to leave Sultry Springs and only take Bobbi to California with her, thus leaving Luke behind. Bobbi grew up with a drug addict for a mother in various crappy, rundown apartment complexes. After her mother died, Bobbi went from foster home to foster home, before she was finally adopted by her Dad.

Trey Lewis, gosh I love this guy, has a smile that will melt your heart and dimples Bobbi describes as "sure-fire, panty-removing gifts from God". But behind all of that is a man who's hurt. Almost nine years ago while Trey was in the Army, he got into a bar fight and ended up hitting an officer. Trey had a good and valid reason for doing so, but he still got an OTH, Other Than Honorable, discharge from the Army. Getting the OTH put a bigger stain on the relationship he had with his parents. In fact, his father hardly ever talks to him. And when I say hardly, it’s pretty much never. Trey’s mother is cold and distant.

Trey and Luke have been best friends for ten years. Trey would do absolutely anything for Luke, even if it means disposing of an ex who happens to show up at Luke's bar looking for him. Well, it seems the "ex" is in fact Luke's little sister, which he failed to mention to his best friend. What ensues is truly a reason to NOT drink a beverage, while reading this book.

Bobbi is in town for the summer to shoot a “red-neck” documentary, sorta like The Bachelor mixed with Jersey Shore, except you have two guys going out with several women, trying to find love by the end of summer. Well, it’s actually crazier and sometimes wilder than that. Since Bobbi and her film crew of Bong and Weezus are going to be hanging out at the local bars, Luke asks Trey to watch his sister and keep her safe. The added request is that Trey (known as a player to Luke) is NOT supposed to sleep with Bobbi. Yeah, good luck with that.

Both Bobbi and Trey are at a crossroads in their lives. Bobbi has made a mistake that she is trying hard to make up for. She will do just about anything to get her reputation back. Trey wants to get rid of his OTH, as a way of hopefully reconnecting with his parents. But it seems reconnecting with his parents is going to be harder now. What ensues is a surprise. Throughout the book, Bobbi and Trey are both fighting their attraction to each other, each for different reasons.

A Shot of Sultry is a hilarious story with some serious and surprising moments. Some characters will learn how to overcome their past. Some will learn that when one door closes another one will open, possibly bigger and better than the one before. Some will learn that it’s time to grow up and take things seriously. What I can say is that none of the residents of Sultry Springs will be the same after this book.

Title: A Shot of Sultry

Series: Sultry Springs book 2

Author: Macy Beckett

Welcome to Sultry Springs, Texas: where home can be the perfect place for a fresh start.

For West Coast filmmaker Bobbi Gallagher, going back to Sultry Springs is a last resort. But with her career in tatters, a quick trip to her hometown might get her the footage she needs to salvage her reputation. She just can’t let anything distract her again. Not even the gorgeous contractor her brother asked to watch over her. As if she can’t handle filming a few rowdy Texans.

Golden boy Trey Lewis, with his blond hair and Technicolor-blue eyes, is a leading man if Bobbi ever saw one. He’s strong and confident and–much to her delight–usually shirtless. He thinks keeping his best friend’s baby sister out of trouble will be easy. But he has no idea of the trouble in store for him…

Macy Beckett is introducing us to a great series with characters that I find myself falling in love with and rooting for page after page!! These characters are creating a family bound by love as much as blood and despite their flaws they stick together through the good and the bad.

Since he is Luke’s best friend, Trey Lewis played a big part in book 1, Sultry with a Twist. We learned about the dysfunction in his family and how that wedge drove him to make his home in Texas instead of Chicago. This story expands on that relationship and explains further why Trey has adopted the town of Sultry Springs as his extended family. In spite of his love for the town, he has plans to leave Texas and try to find his own way in a world that he thought he had left behind. By taking a civilian contracting job in Dubai working security detail for a developer who’s working with the military, Trey can clear his military record and please a father that he has managed to disappoint time and again.

At age 4, Bobbi Gallagher moved from Sultry Springs with her mother and thought there would never be a reason to return. Now years later she needs a reality show, Sex in the Sticks, to help get her career back on track and a couple of good lookin’ cowboys to play her leading men. But Bobbi is dealing with resentments that she has aimed at her big brother, Luke, and what she sees as his growing up in his “own redneck version of Easy Street” while she was neglected by their mother and then forced into foster care when she died from an over-dose. It was interesting to see the 2 sides to the same situation: Bobbi’s resentments versus Luke’s abandonment issues and how its possible to see one life altering event from so many different angles.

Throw together all this personal angst, a red hot attraction that Trey (cowboy #1) and Bobbi cannot seem to deny (and that Luke would wring his friends neck over), a crazy cocky sheriff deputy named Colton Bea (cowboy #2) and two California hippie camera men named Weezus and Bong and let the story unfold!

“Bobbi rolled her eyes and tried to contain a snicker. ‘So far, we’ve got see God, see stars, and forget how to breathe. You make lofty promises, Golden Boy.’ ‘Sure.’ Trey reached one arm behind her and rested it along he the seat back. ‘But I deliver.’ “ YES… Yes, he does!!!

The end has a nice little twist that I did not see coming and totally LOVED and as any great romance book should – it gave me the Happily Ever After that I long for (and demand)! I will wait on pins and needles for book 3, Colt’s story, to come out in August 2013 – I can hardly wait!!!

Macy Beckett's second installment in the Sultry Springs series is sizzling hot! With exciting characters, great small town charm and a leading couple with electric chemistry, A SHOT OF SULTRY is a must read contemporary romance!

The last place Bobbi Gallagher expected to end up for the summer was Sultry Springs, Texas. Yet a few career mishaps had led her to a depressing job filming a reality TV show about two Southern studs finding love. One of these gorgeous guys just happens to be Trey Lewis, the best friend of Bobbi's brother. Bobbi didn't expect it to be such a challenge to resist the blond-haired brute, but she is at a loss to explain why Trey has occupied her thoughts far too often. Trey has been forbidden by Bobbi's brother to make a move on the long-legged beauty but he's finding that promise is impossible to keep. He's falling hard and fast for Bobbi but the fact that he's leaving Sultry Springs at the end of the summer may just destroy their chance at ‘happily ever after.'

I do love the world of Sultry Springs. This latest novel by Macy Beckett, A SHOT OF SULTRY, delivers the right amount of Southern hospitality mixed with perfect characters in a town you simply never want to leave. With only two books now under her belt, Ms Beckett writes this story as if she were a well-seasoned author, giving you a great romance to adore and two protagonists developed so exceptionally well you can't help but fall in love as they fall in love.

One thing you can tell with plenty of certainty is that Bobbi and Trey share an absolutely exciting chemistry. They continually flirt and tease each other to no end. Their stolen moments are intense and very passionate. It makes you wonder why your book isn't too hot to hold. While their sexual tension is great, Bobbi and Trey's banter is where you can really tell how well the dialogue is executed. It can make you laugh, make you cry and make you sigh in absolute rapture. It was a lot of fun and delightful to experience as a reader because it made the book more than romantic. This is of course expanded by the lovely world Ms Beckett has created known as Sultry Springs.

It's amazing how much these characters grow on you in such a short amount of time. I loved the first novel and part of the reason I loved this novel just as much is because I had the opportunity to visit these characters again. Bobbi's brother Luke from book one is wandering the pages with his wife June and terrorizing everyone with their newlywed bliss. Meanwhile, the other townspeople are using their adorable, meddling ways to play matchmaker for Bobbi and Trey. A SHOT OF SULTRY also develops Colten's character more thoroughly since his book is scheduled to be released next. You get a few brief opportunities to understand his character's dark past, but just enough to tease and entice you to want more.

Don't' miss out on this fun, sassy contemporary romance. A SHOT OF SULTRY has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and sizzling sexual chemistry. Bobbi and Trey's romance is emotional yet overall a great heartwarming tale. You can certainly read this novel without having read the first, but I wouldn't recommend it. This universe is simply too perfect to pass up the experience of Ms Beckett's first novel, Sultry With A Twist. Plus, it will make this latest trip to Sultry Springs even more enjoyable. It's easy to take the risk with Macy Beckett's A SHOT OF SULTRY, because you will love it and simply won't regret it.

I haven’t had this much fun with a book in a long time! While there is are serious undertone to the story, there is a lot of times I was laughing all the trouble Bobbi got into!

Bobbi Gallagher’s career as a film maker is on the line after not double checking her references in a documentary. Now video tapping weddings and celebrations seems to be the highlight of her life until she is approached by the creator of those girls gone wild shows. He wants her to work on a story called “Sex in the Sticks.” Find a small town and document men finding love. Bobbi has the perfect town to visit and heads out to Sultry, Texas!

Trey Lewis is Bobbi’s brother’s (Luke) best friend and business partner. They met while in the military but Trey wasn’t honorably discharged after decking an officier. Now he has a chance to wipe his record clean, but he has to do it in the service of the government in Dubai. This is his last summer in Sultry, because he doesn’t know if he is coming back.

When Bobbi arrives she goes about finding candidates for the show all wrong and somehow Trey thinks she is looking for a threesome between them and the sheriff, Cole. But that sets the tone for the back and forth bickering between Bobbie and Trey. Neither are looking for love, relationships or even a one night stand. To top it off, Luke gets Trey to join the show to watch out for his sister, not sleep with her.

The camera man and boom guy follow Trey and Cole around town as they look for “love”. The sheriff isn’t really the most upstanding guy. He makes a lot of sexual references and basically just uses women to run from the past. He constantly is getting Bobbi in trouble. At one point he takes them to a strip club that is getting busted for prostitution. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out so well.
Trey used both hands to brace himself against the wall, and she pulled him free of his briefs. Unfortunately, that’s when a sheriff’s deputy threw open the door, caught Bobbi with her hand around Trey’s erection—and proceeded to arrest her for prostitution.

The book is constantly filled with funny moments like this that left me reading as fast I could to get to the next one. But it wasn’t all fun and games. Digging deeper we find out that Bobbi didn’t have a great life. Luke and Bobbi’s mom was a horrible person. She abandons Luke in Sultry while taking Bobbi with her. Luke gets taken in by a neighbor and his love story in the first book in the series. Bobbi had to live with a woman who was drug addict, sex addict and just plain ignored her. When she dies, Bobbi gets adopted by a gay couple. We never get to meet them, but she talks fondly about them throughout the book. So both Luke and Bobbi think the other had the better end of the deal, when in reality they both suffered from abandonment.

So as the book winds through you see Bobbi and Trey form a relationship but they refrain from talking about the future. A future where Bobbi goes back to produce the show and Trey goes off to clear his military record. They dance around each other as they become more important to each other.

The town of Sultry sounds like a place where I live. People who are noisy, have an opinion but are the best kinds of people to have at your back when the chips are down. A sweet romance between enemies turned friends turned lovers. I can’t wait for the next story in the series. For a fun, slighly emotional trip, this book fits the bill!

A Shot of Sultry by Macy Beckett takes place in the town of Sultry Springs. When I received this book to review, I did not know this was the second book in the series. The first book, Sultry with a Twist was the first book, and even though I did not read it, I was able to enjoy A Shot of Sultry anyway. I did get to meet the lead characters from the first book, and really loved those characters, so I will have to go back and read that book.

But this review is about A Shot of Sultry, and the lead characters were a wonderful romantic couple. Bobbi Gallagher, our heroine, is a documentary filmmaker, who finds herself filming a wedding, since she is having a hard time getting work, as a trusted colleague put her career in tatters. She gets an offer to do a reality show, which she accepts, as she needs the money. Bobbi takes her team to Texas, where her brother lives, and where there are hot cowboys; just perfect for the reality show, Sex in the Sticks. Bobbi is determined to save money living a few months with her brother Luke, and his wife, June (the hero and heroine of book 1), in order for her to try to win back her career as a respected filmmaker.

It is in Sultry Springs that we meet our hero, Trey Lewis. When Bobbie meets Trey, before she can explain why she is there, Trey tries to throw her out of the bar they are in and a hilarious scene. Both Trey and Bobbi have their own personal issues, each from either family or childhood. The chemistry between the two of them is mega hot and steamy. The problem is that Trey is a womanizer, not believing in anything long term. His friend, Colton, is the same. Bobbi, uses both men to be the main part of her reality show, but finds her self unable to avoid Trey’s advances. Trey is really a fun guy, not to mention totally gorgeous. I can totally understand Bobbi having a hard time fighting him off, and trying keep this professional.

Bobbi had a bad childhood, with a mother that her brother Luke was lucky not to have had to spent time growing up with. Trey finding himself really beginning to care for Bobbi, tries to learn more about her childhood, and help her rise above her distrust of relationships. But Bobbi’s fears of rejection, causes her to do some dumb things. But it is fun to watch them falling in love, and try to get past those obstacles.

There are quite a few wonderful characters in this series, as I loved Luke and June, as well as Colton, the sexy sheriff, not to mention Trey and Bobbi. Macy Beckett does an excellent job of making you like her characters, and you become invested in their lives. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, and as I said, I will be going back to read the first book. If you love romance, sexy and humorous scenes, this book is for you.

Review from Backchatting Books

Trey Lewis meets his match in Macy Beckett’s second novel in this series. He is still suffering physically from the fall off a roof in the first novel. While I wouldn’t want to wish anyone (real or imaginary) pain, it adds a little touch of realism that he is just a little bit bitter and having to knock back the aspirin to cope. He is drowning his sorrows in Luke and June’s tavern when a hot-as-hell redhead saunters in. Bobbi Gallagher, Luke’s half-sister, is a film maker who with one mistake lost all credibility in the field. She has been offered one last chance by a sleezy Garr Goldblatt to create a trashy show called Sex in the Sticks. Now all Bobbi needs is a “couple of sexy, single cowboys…looking for love in all the wrong places" (p9). Naturally Trey catches her eye, along with police officer Colton. Trey is interested in her, she is interested in him but Luke invokes the bro-code and asks Trey to keep an eye on her (and his hands off).

This is a really fun series and the chemistry between the two leads sizzles. Both naturally have tragic pasts that have shaped them. Bobbi had to deal with an addict mother until she died and she went into foster care. She claims she is in town to get to know Luke better but she harbours quite a grudge against him once she sees the house he lives in and life he has had with Pru and June. Luke too is jealous of Bobbi because their mother chose Bobbi over him. Bobbie has quite a bit of maturing to do in this novel before she can put these resentments to bed.

Trey hasn’t had an ideal upbringing either as his parents care more about appearance than supporting their son. When Trey got kicked out of the army for standing up for Luke, his father all but washes his hands of him. His seemingly perfect but very cold parents are getting a divorce and he is slap bang in the middle of it. I think it is great that Luke took a young juvie, Carlo, under his wing but would have preferred he didn’t teach the little guy such misogynistic attitudes.

The more that Bobbi tries to throw Trey at other women – for the good of the show – the more she and he realise that they have a connection. Both try to hide it from Luke and pretend that it is just sex but obviously it runs much deeper. Unfortunately Trey has a chance to turn his life around by heading to Dubai and if Bobbi is successful with the tv show, she will be heading off in a different direction. They need to work out just how much they care.

One parting comment – I like the fact that in both Sultry with a Twist and A Shot of Sultry the female characters are not classically beautiful. June has a large backside and Bobbi has epic thighs. They are still well endowed elsewhere but it is a refreshing change from the svelte heroines you often read about.

I won't lie, the first couple of chapters I was feeling a bit iffy on this book. I was having issues connecting with the heroine and it just took me awhile before I was able to warm up to her. But once I got a few chapters in I was hooked. I couldn't put the book down. It was addicting and just so damn good. I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times and at other moments blushing like a tomato. Trey is hot and the heat between him and Bobbi is explosive. I love how these two were drawn together and their relationship just seem so easy.

Trey is a lovable sweetheart and you can't help but smile at some of his antics. He has a heart of gold and he's really the best kind of hero. The problem with Trey is that he's a player. He's afraid of commitment and doesn't believe in relationships. He's been burned one time too many by past girlfriends so now he just likes to play the field and wants nothing to do with relationships.

Bobbi is attempting to start over and a stay with her brother in Sultry Springs, Texas is just what she needs. With her reputation in tatters she heads to Sultry Springs to film a reality dating show about dating in the south. It's not the best job but it's work and lately she's not getting much of it.

She was only supposed to get to know Trey for the show but the more time they spend together the harder it is for her to resit his charm. It doesn't help matters the her brother and Trey are best friends. It especially doesn't help that Luke forbade Trey from laying a hand on Bobbi, yet the more time they spend with one another the more they realize just how much they like each other.

I can't express how much I loved this book. I've been in love with Trey ever since he was introduced in Sultry with a Twist and my love for him has only grown all the more. He's a sexy beast with a heart of gold. Him and Bobbi were great together and had some wicked chemistry.

In this book we were also introduced to Colton and let me just say he's hilariously sexy. He has some of the best lines in the book and I can't wait to read his story. Oh how I'm loving him to pieces.

A Shot of Sultry is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it. It's witty, sexy and filled with just the right amount of sweetness that makes you feel good. Definitely sigh worthy.

It was a good thing that I wasn't drinking anything while I read A Shot of Sultry, because there were plenty of moments throughout this book where I laughed enough to have spat my drink all over my e-reader. This was a fun read.

First things first, Macy Beckett, you do write some hot sexy-times! Trey and Bobbi's chemistry is palpable. Together, they seem to create sparks that you can just about feel through the pages. With lines like "all the praying in the world wouldn't wash away the sins he wanted to commit with her", I could picture in my mind that sexy smile described on the page. That to me is awesome.

Trey may come across a little caveman on occasion, but he is really a deeply loyal guy who puts his friends first. He is trying to re-establish his reputation after the OTH discharge from the Army, and dealing with his disapproving parents and their myriad of issues. Bobbi, well she's not had the best of pasts - a drug-addicted, flaky mother who took her away from her brother, being bounced from home to home and having her career destroyed. Both are willing to do whatever they can to get the part of their lives back that has been taken from them. There are some serious moments, but they do not in any way drag the story into maudlin territory.

Far from it, actually. A Shot of Sultry made me laugh...a lot. When Bobbi corrects the grammar on signs in the ladies room with white-out, I just about lost it - that's totally something I would do. Oh, and that car - we've all had a car like that at some stage (hey, I used to drive a canary yellow Nissan with doors that shook when you drove off).

The secondary and supporting characters aren't just there as filler for the plot - they add to and strengthen the story. Can't wait for Colton's story - anybody whose driving skills are described as akin to those of a "drunken, blindfolded primate" has got to have an interesting story to tell.

I really enjoyed this book, and I would definitely return again & again to Sultry Springs. If you keep writing stories like this, Macy Beckett, you are well on your way to being on many an auto-buy list.

My rating: 4.5 out of 5

A Shot of Sultry is the 2nd book in the fun and crazy Sultry Springs series by Macy Beckett. This series just keeps getting better and better.

Trey Lewis will not rest until he clears his name. He was dishonorably discharged from the military. It doesn't matter that he was protecting someone, they were off duty and the superior was clearly in the wrong. Politics are politics and he was let go with a smudged record. He was proud to serve his country and was a military man to the bone. He's created a good civilian life for himself, working with his best friend, making a home in the quirky little town of Sultry Springs, and helping with troubled youth. But, none of that is enough. And now he's gotten his chance. He's been offered an overseas civilian position with a military contract. Nothing will get in his way this time. At least, that's what he thought until his best friend's baby sister came to town. Not only should he feel the way he feels because of his friend, but he's leaving and nothing good can come of this.

Bobbi Gallagher hasn't seen her brother or her hometown since she was a toddler. Truth be told, she's resented her brother for years. He was left behind to have a real chance at a good life, but she didn't get the same opportunity. She was forced to witness the self destruction that was their mother's life. No matter her feelings, she has to suck it up and go back home. Her career as a filmmaker is in tatters thanks to a bad lead. She's gotten the chance to get her name back out there. It's not ideal, but if she can pull off a reality show featuring sexy country boys and their raunchy dating life, it could turn things around. First, she has to deal with the feelings seeing her brother has brought up. And more importantly, the feelings that his best friend has aroused. It's annoying that her brother thinks she needs a babysitter, but she can use Trey as one of her subjects, so she'll deal with it. Yet, seeing him with other women and knowing it's her that is pushing the women into his life very well may break her heart.

I absolutely love the town and crazy characters of Sultry Springs. I'm sure you will, too.

I love discovering new authors that rock it out of the starting gate and blow my mind with their characters and fictional world. And Macy Beckett has done just that.

A Shot of Sultry is book two in Macy's adult debut series. (Click here for my review of Sultry with a Twist). Trey Lewis was introduced in the first book as a secondary character that easily won over my heart. He was sexy, funny-as-hell, and so needed his own HEA.

Bobbi Gallagher returns to her hometown of Sultry Springs, determined to repair her injured reputation as a documentary film maker. She is producing a new reality t.v. show--Sex in the Sticks. Not exactly award winning television, but she has to start somewhere.

Trey's mind is on leaving Sultry Springs and returning overseas for a military contract that will change his OTH discharge with the Army. His best friend and business partner, Logan Gallagher, has no clue that Trey has no intention of returning.

But things quickly change when Bobbi sets her sights on Trey and Colt (the town's sexy sheriff) as the two men to spotlight on Sex in the Sticks. Colt, bad-boy extraordinaire signs up ready, willing, and able--Trey is more or less coerced by Logan, so he can protect his baby sister from rowdy (er, horny) cowboys intent on getting their groove on with Bobbie. Logan is aware of Trey's reputation and warns him to keep his hands off of his sister in the meantime.

Easy Peasy.

Bobbie and Trey has instant chemistry that sizzles on the page and the two have a hard time keeping their hands off each other. Both decide to have a summer romance--no strings attached--and secret to avoid Logan finding out.

What follows is a humorous, steamy, love story about two people who have found their perfect match. Macy packs in quirky southern charm and humor that had me laughing out loud. A delicious read-- with a secondary story involving Colton that I cannot wait to get my hands on!

A Shot of Sultry was such a fun book to read. It was obvious there had been a previous book in the series (happily married couple, underwear found on the office desk brings a smile to his face – but not a blush, constant touching and holding – you know the deal) but that didn’t make this book any less enjoyable to read.

The book begins with Bobbi and the knowledge that she has somehow screwed up a promising documentary film career, but the book never goes into detail about just how that happened. I was a little disappointed there. I like to know how the characters get to where they are, how they become who they are. However, I do like that Bobbi is more interested in paying people back (monetarily, not revengefully) than she is in putting her career back on track. She does get a little tunnel-vision when it comes to her job but the tunnel does open, letting Bobbi redeem herself.

Trey is the consummate hero – at least in my eyes. He received an Other Than Honorable discharge from the Army, he has a bum leg from a fall off a roof, and his view of marriage is skewed thanks to his less-than-faithful father. At the same time, he knows his interest in Bobbi is more than just a fling. He acts as a cross between a big-brother-like protector and a cave-man-she’s-my-woman kind of warrior.

This book has all the elements of a modern romance – light-hearted situations, endearing main characters, a few quirky minor characters, and a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business. I thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the characters and look forward to catching up with book one (Sultry with a Twist) and anticipating book three (Surrender to Sultry), Colton’s story, due out in August.

4.5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book, which is number 2 in the Sultry Springs series. I cannot wait for book 3 and loved reading all of the background info that will come into play when it finally comes out in August.

As with the first book, this one is HOT as well as funny and charming. I loved Bobbi's character. She has overcome such a rough and difficult past and is desperate to make a name for herself after being screwed over in a scandal. On her career's last chance she arrives in her brother's hometown for a free place to crash while she works.

As part of her summer project, Trey is sexy, surprisingly sweet, and a lady's man. Now, I will add here that he does say a lot of things in the beginning of the book that are flat-out sexist, and I'm sure a lot of readers will dislike that about him, but the more you learn about him the more you realize he was probably saying those things to purposefully and gleefully tick Bobbi off.

I really liked the relationship between these two. I was glad that Bobbi and Luke could sort of make up for lost time and I also liked reading about Carlo and Trey. So sweet. I'm excited for book 3 now that we have some background on Colton. The only thing I disliked about the book is the ending. I want them to stay in Sultry Springs, darn it, so that they can be in book 3 too. It isn't a terrible ending or anything, just left me wanting a little more. It was sort of rushed and I wonder where book 3 will have them.

Overall though, this was a good one that I only put down for a week or so because of midterms. And again, I have to say it. This book is hot. There are a few scenes in particular...just wow. Enjoy.

Macy Beckett has quickly become one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. The woman is flat out hilarious! A Shot of Sultry was a fantastic follow up to her debut book, Sultry With A Twist. Bobbi is an extremely amusing heroine who seriously puts her love interest Trey through the ringer. She does this by showing up in Sultry with an agenda of making a ridiculous reality tv show based on your common country boy's love lives, and somehow Trey gets wrangled into participating in it. So while Trey has pretty much had the hots for Bobbi from the moment he lays eyes on her, Bobbi makes him go out on these dates that he doesn't want to go out on.

You also have the back story of Trey's relationship with his parents. It's intriguing and very complimentary to the love story here. Bobbi is a little crazy in my opinion, but I absolutely love it. She's also a woman who flounders with a relationship with her brother, although she desperately needs one with him. There are plenty of engaging facets to the book and everything flows wonderfully together. I loved the first book, but I love this one more. The crazy thing is, I have a sneaking suspicion that the third book in the series, Surrender to Sultry, which is set to come out August 1, 2013, will actually be even better than the first two books and I can't freakin' wait to read it! 5 Wine glass toast and you haven't had the pleasure of reading a Macy Beckett book, then you need to buy one today!

The queen of Southern romance has done it again.

Sultry Springs is not only where second chances are found but also where laughter reigns and good friends and family come together.

Down on her luck Bobbi Gallagher returns to Sultry Springs after taking a job from a trash media mogul. He wants to branch into the reality show trend and wants footage of singles out in the dating world but wants it people in a rural setting. She is hoping this will help her financially and get her back on top.

Once there she decides she wants to film Trey Lewis, who is her brother Luke's best friend and Colton Bea who is a sheriff's deputy and friends with both Luke and Trey.

We'd gotten a good glimpse of Trey in the first book and knew he was Luke's best friend and partner and had a wicked sense of humor. He didnt disappoint with that humor in this book.

In Luke's book we saw how his mother's desertion effected him and that he was envious of the sister that she took with her. But we find out that Bobbi's life with her mother was no picnic and left her with many emotional issues. Trey's family life was pretty messed up also and is still effecting him today. These two have a hard road to finding there HEA..

From the moment we meet Colton I was scratching my head wondering how this guy was going to be the main hero in the next book in the series. But the author did a fantastic job of setting things up for his book.

I really like Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series and Toni Blake’s Destiny series, so I found myself hunting around for contemporary romance novels set in small towns.

When Macy Beckett’s Sultry With a Twist started popping up on Goodreads and some blogs I follow I just knew I had to give it a try. So glad I did because I really enjoyed it. Sultry With a Twist is the story of Luke Gallagher and June Augustine. One thing I loved in the first book was the relationship between Luke and his best friend Trey. Their snarky banter cracked me up.

Trey’s story, A Shot of Sultry is book 2 in this series set in the small Texas town of Sultry Springs and I enjoyed it just as much and I think it was a bit steamier than the first, which suits Trey to a T. Good God that man is HOT! He hooks up with none other than Luke’s baby sister, even after he promises his best friend he will keep his hands off. A recipe for disaster.

The only disappointment for me for me was the lack of Epilogue. There is a book 3 due out in August 2013 (feels like a lifetime away) so the story continues but I still missed an Epilogue, particularly when the first book had one.

Bobbi Gallagher is the long-lost sister of Luke Gallagher, who just happens to be the best friend of Trey Lewis. Bobbi's arrival in Sultry Springs has a main purpose -- filming a reality show -- and a secondary purpose -- reconnecting with Luke. The siblings have lived very different lives, and much of Luke's memories of their mother are mentioned in the first book of this series, Sultry with a Twist.

I suppose I wanted more from the siblings, especially since Bobbi claims she wants to know Luke, but most of the plot centers around the reality show, Sex in the Sticks, and sets up Colton (the second reality show contestant) as hero for the third book, Surrender to Sultry (August, 2013).

I really thought I would like Bobbi as the narrative progressed, and while she and Trey have chemistry, there was something off about both characters. Trey wants his mother to stand up to his father (or divorce his father), yet he objectifies Bobbi. Bobbi continually lies, then feels sorry for herself when her lies are revealed. These characters are a mess, but they don't seem to learn from their past mistakes or behaviors.

A Shot at Sultry was an okay addition to this series, certainly not as good as Sultry with a Twist, but I am curious to learn more about Colton and the runaway preacher's daughter in Surrender to Sultry.
