About the author

I love Shayla Black. In fact I recommend her Wicked Lovers, Devoted Lovers, and Wicked and Devoted series all the time.

But this one didn't do it for me.

Now, let's be clear. I read it in 45 minutes. It's a quick and dirty novella but even with quick and dirty I want to enjoy and feel the story. This one had some awkward sentences, some elements that didn't work and the story was just cheesy.

The lines the characters said made me cringe or laugh and it went just beyond insta-love, insta-lust into just plain stupid.

I think I will stick with Shayla's full length novels and her soiree's in the world of BDSM. She writes that like no other.

Pros: It's short and Jason Clarke is a really great narrator.
Cons: Everything else. Vanessa was raised by a spy, but hasn't figured out that it maybe worthwhile to have better locks, a ring camera, or any security measure other than an easily dismantled alarm and a gun. Now does she find it suspicious that her coworker just happened to be at our doorway after a break in. And personally, I found Rush having a condom, not using it and hoping to get Vanessa pregnant was really messed up. I understand the plot is just there to get to the sex, it's called Seduced by The Spy, I'm not expecting a political thriller, but c'mon.

Once again Shayla Black creates characters that were are quick to love and storylines that are impossible to put down. Rush and Vanessa's story brings out the best that Ms. Black has to offer - edge of your seat action, swoon worthy connections and hot and spicy bedroom antics, all wrapped up in forbidden love and desire. Another wonderful addition to the Forbidden Confessions collection.

This is Rush and Vanessa’s story, it’s a quick read but by no means is it short on action in the bedroom or in a sexy Alpha Spy sent to protect the daughter of another spy. Rush is another swoon worthy Alpha man that Shayla is so adept at bringing to life! Great book! Buy it you will not be sorry!!

This has an age gap that's not terrible; Vanessa is 21 and Rush is about 27. They have some history because she went to prom with his younger brother and then kissed Rush afterwards. That isn't terrible because even though he knew how old she was she was the one who launched herself at him, but he did return the kiss which is creepy. But, they did not dwell on that part of their history, it's mentioned in passing. This story focuses on the present. She is the daughter of a spy. He is the spy sent to protect her. She does not know that; she thinks her elderly neighbor is the person communicating with her father. Her house is broken into and Rush is there when she needs help. Nothing is taken so the cops don't do anything. He gets her a little drunk to help with the fear and then he stays the night to protect her. It's perfectly chaste, but she does confess she wants him to ravish her. The next morning when she's sober he is very interested in taking her up on the ravishing, but he wants to talk first; she doesn't give him the chance. She launches herself at him for the second time in her life. It's very hot this time because they are both willing adults and it goes as far as they both want. Afterwards he reminds her of the kiss and she's super embarrassed. They have round 2 and discuss moving in together; they decide on his house since hers just got broken in to. He goes to take a shower and she calls the emergency contact for her father. The phone rings in his pocket. She hangs up and calls again to test it out and realizes he is her watcher, not the old lady neighbor. They fight and she kicks him out. His boss, her father, calls him and demands to know what's going on; he tells him about the break in. As they are talking 2 guys arrive at her house. He runs to intercept. Meanwhile, she checks the peephole and sees a delivery guy but no truck which is suspicious. She hears noises coming from her bedroom, but since that's where her gun is she goes there. She shoots the guy trying to get into her room in the foot. The guy at the door finally breaks in and captures her. She puts up a fight but is unsuccessful. He throws her on the bed and threatens and attempts to rape her. Rush shows up, removes him, and kills him. He detains the injured guy and then checks on Vanessa. While he is taking care of her and telling her that she is the most important thing in the world to her, her father shows up. He demands a sit. rep. which also includes a breakdown of their feelings. He tells Rush it's about time; that he's known how Vanessa felt about him for years and he wanted to make sure he was good enough, capable enough for his daughter. He approves and sets up a Vegas wedding for them later that night. The issue I have with these novellas is that there's not enough time for character development. But I did like that Rush called his big brother for advice; that was cute. I will be skipping book 7; he's 34 and she's just 18 and his son's ex-girlfriend. Absolutely not.

I didn't like the FMC so even though I read it last summer, I DNFd it the second time around.

Vanessa (whiny wanker) has someone stalking her, Rush (bodyguard, secret agent man) comes to the rescue. Vanessa was dumb and annoying. First, she walks into her house and notices immediately that someone has disabled her alarm and several things around her house have been messed with. Instead of turning around and leaving, she proceeds further into the house, looking into each room. I'm thinking that's not very smart. Then she keeps saying "daddy" and it just got on your nerves. "daddy knows I can do this. daddy always taught me to fight. daddy would be proud." it was just way too much all at once.
Then when she's asked if she wants to stay somewhere else for the night, she decides she wants to stay in her house because her cat is there. JFC just take the cat with you!!! Get a hotel that's pet friendly until you can at least get a better security system!

Anyway -I'm ready to be done with this series so I quit it without hitting it. (see what I did there! haha)

Rush and Vanessa's story is a short sexy novella. The story starts by giving us a glimpse of their initial meeting 7 years ago then fast forward to present day. Rush works for her dad the ultimate spy! He falls for Vanessa even more while on the job. But what will her father think when she was supposed to be off limits? I loved the characters and my only complaint would be I wish I had more. Good novellas always leave me wishing it was a full length novel and this one definitely did!

Vanessa and Rush have a forbidden history but after denying their feelings for years, now is their time to finally come clean about their mutual attraction. They just have a few obstacles to get through first before they can enjoy their happily ever after.

Great quick read

This was a great read that I could not put down. Rush and Vanessa have great chemistry that they both were fighting for different reasons. Getting to see Vanessa’s father really wanted them together was helpful since rooting for them. Shayla black never disappoints and this series is no different.

The last third of a romance novel

I liked the balance of competence and naivety in the girl, and the steamy scenes were well written. But this felt like the last third of a romance novel, not an entire one. Very quick, an interesting intro but then it jumped immediately to the end with steam and devotion, everything wrapped up with a bow with no real conflict.

This series of quickies is so good. Full of suspense and plenty of heat. This story is the brother of the hero in the book right before this. He's a government spy protecting his boss' daughter, but falls for her in a big way. When she's in harm's way, alpha hero to the rescue!

But then when she found out she was, she was so shocked. Besides that, I actually liked this storyline, but I just wanted to find out what happened after the end of the book, lol.
