Michael Chatfield is a Canadian Army veteran and international bestselling author who writes the kind of books he always wanted to read—character-driven, gritty, tactical, and grounded in reality.

He doesn’t write one-dimensional killers wrapped in plot armor, charging toward an objective without thought. His stories are built for readers who want earned progression, tight, understandable logic, and realistic strategy. Every stat system has structure. Every decision is deliberate (except when there is Jaeger involved).

And the pacing? It's locked at two hundred percent. From alleyway brawls to starship armadas clashing over galactic sovereignty, from tactical dungeon assaults to city-states warring over a continent’s fate—Chatfield commits to every battle like it’s his last.

With millions of books and audiobooks sold, and tens of thousands of reviews his work spans LitRPG, military sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic survival. He writes for readers who value systems that make sense, loyalty that lasts, and power that’s earned, not handed out.

Whether you're listening on a long drive, grinding through a shift, or up past midnight planning the next in-game raid—this is where you’ll find sagas to binge. Where strength is earned, logic rules, and camaraderie is forged in fire.

The last couple of books have been pretty much the same. More of the stuff that I hate and less of the stuff that I like. It is a pattern with this author. The same thing happened with the Trapped mind project series. It started off great and then it overly complicated with massive battles and way too many characters. It is the same way with this series. I like Eric and Rugrat. I like the crafting, I like the progression, I like the small scale fighting. What I don't like is the large scale battles that last for large chunks of the book. I feel this is Eric and Rugrats book, but they were only in this one maybe 15% of the story. How is that? Eric gained only 1 level. Neither of them did hardly anything with their crafting. This author needs to get back to the basics. Get more personal with these characters. He hints as things that sound personal and interesting and then ignores them.

There are so many good stories here on a personal level, but the author spends all his time on combat, planning for combat, preparing for combat, and creating new weapons for combat. There were big chunks of this book I had to skip through.

It's Mama!

I adore a good civilization building, mmorpglit and its so hard to find one that doesn't swear every two seconds or treat the female characters like they are empty headed sex toys. Instead we have quirky tough military characters who not only use tactics but embody more of what the military is supposed to stand for and as a afbrat and milspouse i appreciate that. I also love the world building, the addition of new characters that naturally fit as Erik and Rugrats cities grow. I also like the minor characters that show how real people really do react to crisis like the earthers who can't imagine a non democratic society actually being a better option. (I am all for democracy here but in the 10 realms they would be crushed) but my favorite part definitely has to do with Mama! I never turned pages so fast as after she showed up. To avoid more spoilers I'll just say I need her to complete her quest as soon as the next book starts because I've never seen other rpglit do this and I didn't know I wanted it until it happened here. Essentially, bring on the next book!!!

Boring boring boring

No spoilers here. I had high hopes for this book. I've only read about 10% of this book so far and if you want to read about constant reasons why and theories about leveling, tempering and how they built this and how they built that. It gets freaking boring. You can skip a few chapters in this book and would not miss anything. No excitement or adventure anymore. Just more of the same over and over and constant explaining from characters about theories for formations potions formulas etc. I swear I think 1 book was just about leveling and tempering without even a villain for Eric or Rugrat to fight to do so. And for the last 3 books no clear villain for our heroes to fight. Just more of the same for all the characters as how they are leveling without even 1 villain character. Just how they are training in a school and making breakthroughs in their own theories. And so many chapters for so many characters doing the same thing over and over gets boring and confusing!

I like this story. The characters, worldbuilding, plot.

The problem with this book, or more like with few previous books but mostly seen in this to the extent that even I was taken aback, is too much content. There are so many characters, so many plotlines to be seen, so many little stories. It's like kaleidoscope. Pretty and amazing, but not so much consictent.

I, and I think that most of the readers too, would love to read more about Erik and Rugrat. These are the characters we are invested into. They are the real power behind this story, it's heart. If the book focuses more on them, the plot will be smoother and readers will be likely happier.
(We could see the new group of characters in this book too. And even though I love previous characters, the fact that these are new and brings something interesting with them, made me more interested in them and I was looking forward for their parts in book more.)

I was thinking about it. There were two main issues with the story in my opinion. Too much, so much that the book has lost focus and ended like weird in-between with too many parts, just somehow holding together.
Second problem was how the information was delivered. There were few scenes where Rugrat was explaining something to Erik (and vice versa) in the way that was a little bit unnatural. Like he was lecturing Erik, but they are both in the Ten Realms and Erik likely knows it, even if not in so much detail. Author was writing it in this way for us, readers, so we will be informed.

The resolution of the first problem is tricky. But I think I would love to see focus in books more on the main pair of our heroes and the stories of others left for the companions novels? Maybe? Erik and Rugrat seem like to change their focus from managing the whole beast they helped to raise to adventure more. It looks like good oportunity to switch the pace. Also, in the companion novels, the side characters will have more space to express themselves and author will do them justice.

For the second problem - I love author's imagination. I love all of these little tidbits of information. But I think that for the good of future books, that will have to be restricted a little bit and only things that will really help the plotline and actual situation should be presented.

Again, I like this story. I wouldn't be thinking about it so much if it isn't like that. And I don't want to seem like I want the author to do things my way. I just wanted sincerely express my thoughts and I hope that these insings will help future books to be better. :)
Also, the forshadowing for the mess in Tenth Realm got me good.

A bloated mess

This book reads like a bunch of scenes that the author haphazardly pasted together. There are so many characters that you can't even keep track of them, let alone care about them. It feels like 80% of this book is filler which restates the same theme over and over again. The author really need to decide which story he wants to tell, and then just get down and tell it. He's got an interesting world, two compelling main characters and an interesting graph of the military mindset and military operations. If he focused on his strengths, and stop trying to tell every single person's story, these would be an incredible of series of books

Unrefined

Some great stuff, lots of good stuff, and the rest is weird and problematic. Like entire conversations between friends that read like badly translated manga. Like sentences missing key words. Like deadly fights that read as mediocre anime recaps. Like obvious plot points being dragged into sequels. Like repetitions of time to show the same events from different perspectives.
Absolutely not for new readers.

The cast of characters is getting tremendously complicated and some of the situations are started to really get out of hand. The numbers being used are also an issue, but that's par for the course for this author.

Nonetheless, I feel like I'm invested in the story enough that what happened with Emerilia won't happen here again. I might actually complete the story in full, if some of the ridiculousness gets toned down some.

It's probably just me but I don't like sitting in on meetings, fictional or otherwise... even military planning meetings. I had to skip at least a quarter of this book.

The actual military engagements seemed confusing. I often had trouble working out the correct point of view.

Confession time: I did know better but I read anyway. The filler dreck continues. The MCs barely get page time. Very little of interest occurs. I regret my life decisions.

A really good book.

This book was much more interesting than the previous two books. I really liked the progress of the book as it looks like the author is working to get back to where the MC is out doing things so we read about them instead of having so much of the book taken up by secondary characters.Overall I really liked this book.

5 You And Your Gun Porn Stars

Sixth Realm Part 2: is the seventh book in The Ten Realms LitRPG series by Michael Chatfield.

My mind is still so twisty. The convoluted mess of a battle being waged against the Willful Institute is so suspenseful and engaging. All the interconnected and moving parts, the utter destruction being brought upon their second and third realm branches. That they’re targeting these lower extensions with the added forethought to weaken the higher realms. I’m surprised that this battle is going to take over a large portion of three books. It’s the longest running conquest or all out attack we’ve experienced.

Sadly, we didn’t see much from the Earth man lightly referenced in the previous sixth realm book. The ‘teacher’ that went after Lord Vinter in the end. (Can’t remember his name.) But maybe he will reappear later in Erik and Rugrat’s path.

I must confess: the first time I saw ‘Momma Rodriguez’s Restaurant’ I skipped ahead to make sure. Because having his mother actually travel from Earth to the Ten Realms is both hilarious and heartwarming. Erik totally called it. I can only say that if anyone gets in the way of her quest to reach ‘her boys’ and Rugrat finds out? They will not survive, and their family might need to run scared.

I’m worried for our MCs cultivation. It has stagnated because of how hard they were pushing themselves, causing some substantial health concerns to arise. These dungeon/city lords were ruminating over stepping away from being the true leaders and allowing those below them to hold the recognition for their truly talented abilities. Since they’ve been living as only figureheads at this point.

I’m concerned what Fred and Racquel were hinting at vaguely while in the Eighth Realm. It sounds like a truly badass place, and I can’t wait for that book. But the Seventh Realm is calling, and maybe now we’ll get to see how this business with the Sha plays out.

Cruel cruel world

I have to say that the book is well done. It does kind of seem like we are seeing more of everyone else involved with Alva as opposed to our two favorites, Erik and Rugrat. I would hope that there is more of them so that we can really see what they're capable of, as it seems like their progression is very slow in some aspects that don't match with others .
**spoiler alert**

mainly referring to the speed of Rugrat's progression taking 4 hrs to reach liquid core and then Erik is tempering for months to advance using new methods that are supposed to increase his progression speed down to weeks. maybe this will all make sense in the next book. Also mildly confused because it seems as if some things are being mixed up possibly, like characters going to certain realms but then later on they're not at that realm in they're at a lower one. It also seems as if Eric and Rugrat are making a decision that has already been made. I could be wrong because this book was split into two parts but if I remember correctly they had already made the decision to alter their position so that they would be able to explore and do what they love which is fight and advance. This was the reason that they had decided to head up to the sixth Realm, if I remember correctly. I do understand that they're making a decision that's a bit deeper I'm just going to do their own thing and making it official. But I do think that it is kind of repetitive.

Hopefully side events don't get dragged out too much and take away from us really seeing what our main characters get up to. That would be my only pet peeve, or gripe, and that we don't get enough of the dynamic duo. You should probably take the handful of pages that involve them and it would amount to maybe 10% of the book. Though the book is very well done, I would like to see more of them.

I am looking forward to the next book and hopefully it comes out sooner than these last two did. But I won't be too hard in that aspect since this was a bigger book

Mixed feelings about it

I ended up enjoying book 6.5, but it took quite a while to get to a point in it where I felt like it was on par with previous books in the series. It was definitely worth reading, and I am looking forward to book 7 and seeing where things go from here. That said however...

I’ve been a fan of the series since I found it, and really enjoyed the previous books, so I was pretty excited to see this one come available. For roughly the first half of book 6.5 however, I really was not enjoying it. Things felt extremely disjointed and a lot was extremely repetitive. A number of times I felt lost as to who was supposed to be speaking and what kind of knowledge they were supposed to have, because it didn’t seem to fit. Eric and Rugrat spoke a lot through out the book as if they were experts on and lifelong denizens of the Ten Realms, rather than like they were still learning the complexities of their new reality. I know they are no longer new to the Ten Realms, but it felt like they too knowledgeable of things all of the sudden, and were repeating taking about it as if to educate the reader, rather than being in organic conversations with the other characters.

The book picked up significantly after around the first half, and it felt a lot more like the previous books, with a lot more going on, picking up on where things left off previously and the battles they have had coming, etc.

If you are a fan of the series, definitely read it so you are ready for book 7, but you may have to power through quite a bit before it feels like it was worth it. Normally this would have been a 1-2 day read for me at most, but it took me around a week to get myself to stick to it and get all the way through it, with the majority of that time being for the first half or so of the book.

Alert

First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Second, I am not a bot...at least I don’t think I am. Yes this is copy pasta (just learned that term, so fun!) simply because I feel like any book I read deserves acknowledgement but at the same time my feelings on reviews conflict with the normal review process.

I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. If you are a potential reader, just stop reading now and take the above as all you need to know. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

If you are a member of the IAK Guild (thanks, Jason) or part of the review police, feel free to criticize me and challenge my philosophy on reviewing art. I think we all love a good debate. The forums are open and I welcome your comments. I was wrong in my previous request to get you to stop. Your blatant disregard for that request has led to some fun discussions. Growth is important for us all.

Cheers

Although this was a pretty good read, I'm not sure why realm six was split into two books. With some condensing, both of these books could have been easily compressed into 1 book. I'm not complaining, since I generally like this series, but I can easily see that folks wouldn't like the splitting. I figured it was because the proposed storyline wouldn't fit, but after reading this one, I see it easily could have. I certainly this series isn't going the path of the wheel of time series, because that would be bad for the series as a whole. I liked this volume, and I think most fans of the series will too, but I don't think the actions in this book really required an entire separate book to explore the concepts presented here. Condense some of the battles, drop some of the behind the scenes maneuvering, and you could easily have fit this into a book that was bigger than the first, but definitely smaller than the two books combined. I will of course continue following this series, because I like it, but if this does the Robert Jordan thing, where events begin moving at 1/4 speed now, then I'm going to be hard pressed to stay interested in the series as a whole, in that case, I just might wait until they're all released before bothering to catchup.

A book of two halves!

The first half is all on crafting/building/developing and is just a massive info dump on various aspects of the Alva/Vuzgal. It's like the author forgot this was a book and just made a information booklet. Though the aspects were interesting having to read them continuously for 50% of the book felt a bit tedious. Had to wonder when the plot would get moving.

The second half makes up for the first half. It's all non-stop action and we get to see all out open warfare against the Willful Institute. The action scenes are gripping and we can get to feel being in the frontline ourselves. Very fast paced and gripping page turner. The book ends leading to more interesting things.

Get me the next book already!

P.S: The titles for Fifth Realm and both parts of Sixth Reals are misnomers. The whole Sixth Realm was covered only as a minor passing glance across both parts. The actual actions still happens in 1st, 3rd and 4th realms. I suppose we don't get to the next arc (Possibly Sha) till seventh realm, so technically these are mostly filler books and side stories.

Disappointing but a good read.

Plot sucked. Main characters did nothing the entire book and were acting against their traits seen in the last ... 6 books. Too many people and sub plots that were irrelevant. I’ve said it before, there are many many series you can create from this world, don’t try to smash them in one book like this. Book is titled sixth realm but was spent in the first, third, and fourth for 96% of the book. Few advancements throughout which led to a major power compensation literally at the last second that will be seen as the introduction to the next in series. Useless information everywhere, we don’t care about why vendor carts travel along this road versus why they should use birds, we’re only here for three pages. Please write a story, not a compendium of excerpts that jump between over 20 characters. Also, holy rodriguez’ mother of all grammar. Get an editor.

Waiting for the next book, hope it lives up to expectations set in the first and second books.

I like this author's works, but I'm agreeing with some of the other reviewers about what keeps me from immediately jumping on his latest.

The trend starts with a kick ass story and world and great Main characters, then we see development and progression, then the party grows, then the story expands. Rinse and repeat until the MCs start to "hide" there power and are hindered for the story. The pool of characters expands too much for me. To get through 5th and both 6th relam books I skipped everything not regret and Erik related. I just don't care about the farm boys or the managers left in charge.

I got these books months ago, but I really didn't care to read them as I expected this trend. The story is so bloated that we jump to old characters and I don't know who we're talking about anymore.

He's a talented author. Start writing novellas with some of the side characters s and call it side quests if you like.

Another great addition

I started reading this series since the third book was published. I have since spent that time reading every book as quickly as it's released.

Their are some grammar and editing mistakes which detract slightly from the immersion of the book. However, it's not frequent enough for me to rare this book any less than 5 stars.

There is a lot of action in this book; we get to see Alva and their branches start to repay back the Willful Institute for their wanton destruction and dismal from years ago. I look forward to reading about the destruction of this sect.

We also get some small glimpses - like looking through a room full of smoke - about the truths and secrets of Ten Realms. Erik and Rugrats are asking questions, and The Ten Realms seem to be responding. What could be coming next? What questions might be answered in the next book?

Great book!

Love the series, only complaint is too much filler. The early books had a near perfect ratio of world building, city building with the heavier focus on the 2 MCs. The later books 5 and up the focus became heavily on the city building and its characters which is fine but all my investment is with the 2 MCs. These last few books where more on the boring side but i understand the need as they had to 'cosolidate' there growth and adapt as well as more world building. I hope the next book switches its focus back to the 2 MCs as it is setup to do so. The city building could almost become a companion series to this one.

All in all its a great series with a well thought out storyline. Heres hoping for a speedy next release!!

How does one truly express their love of a series?

There are not many series out there that turns the pages as fast as this one. The author is obviously ex-military as he understands the relationships between the men and women who have all been through that life. He writes of it well. He is a master of weaving the many story lines wrapped around the main thread of the main characters. His character development is superb. My only question is how does he keep the names straight? I have a spreadsheet now just trying to keep them all correct.

The Sixth Realm Part 2 will not disappoint. And I can’t wait for the Seventh Realm.

Love so your series, keep them coming!

As always, your world building and character development is amazing. My only critique is that it feels like there's too much stuff story. I'm more interested in Eric and Rugrat getting stronger and doing more on their own but the last few books have been mainly focused on their cities, the adventurers guild, Alva etc and the are so many characters I can't tell who is who and find myself skipping over a lot of the side story until I find some more action. Side story is good for plot development, but not too much.

It does sound like the next book will be more about Rugrat and Eric again so I'm very excited to see what happens next!

Lots of mechanics

This one continues part 1 of the Sixth Realm with Rugrat and Erik leaving the sixth realm and dealing with the willful institute. There are lots of talk about the mechanics of weapons, magic, and the human body, which I’m usually okay with, but there was just a lot of it and it really slows the story down. It doesn’t seem to lead to much except learning more mechanics of how the ten realms work. It’s a little too similar to getting a school lesson. When it gets outside of those details, then it gets better. I just wish things were a little more challenging for the main characters.

Another great book!

The only problem I see with these types of series is that there is so much build up of information. The story tends to weave itself into a plethora of miniature arcs that can become overwhelming. Yet the Author stayed true to the Characters throughout this series. You can tell that these characters have a real connection with him and that makes them all the more interesting.

This book might seem to some that the pace is slowing down. I would ask that you look at the whole of this project. Events are obviously coming to a head and instead of rushing through, the Author is bringing several of these arcs together to show the full picture of what has been occurring.

I have enjoyed the journey so far and await the next book with eager anticipation.

Better than the rest!

I've enjoyed the entire series up to this point, but this book is a crowning achievement. Chatfield did a wonderful job laying cornerstones for the following novels in the series, without taking from the story or plot of this book. My favorite part of this series so far is the relatability of the main characters, and the way the author integrates famous historical and current battle tactics into a LitRPG novel, without compromising character development, or his incredibly involved magic and cultivation systems. I recommend this entire series to anyone and everyone, as loudly and often as possible.

The Willful Institute’s time is short, Alva’s retribution will be fierce

Behind the scenes a deep and involved campaign against the willful institute by the intelligence network, has driven the institute’s enemies into them. Stolen their missions, trade deals, etc to put an economic crunch on them before the true battles begin.
Dungeons abound the 6th realm but our heroes have their sites set on the tenth realm.
This novel does need some more proof reading though.
I’m loving the story and got chills at the very end, never mess with a momma.

A good book! A lot of filler that wasn’t needed, but still good!

I like world building and drama as much as the next reader. But, I feel about afourth or fifth of this book was completely unnecessary. With blurbs about characters that were mentioned once and that will never see again. With points of view of characters that we have no emotional attachment to. And just random bits that don’t completely makes sense. It’s a long story, but even with the bits of skippable material I enjoyed it greatly. Eight out of 10!

Great read with a nice cliffhanger ending

The main story cleared up some of the plot lines of part 1 while only adding a few new plots towards the end. There was one wonderful moment that is teased throughout this book that I was barely able to stop myself from skipping ahead to see. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series. It looks like we will soon see in detail what makes the sky realms so amazing that few ever want to come back down, and see the return of some interesting characters who could do with more page time.
