I was trapped in a cabin in Northern Minnesota for two days after having read both my goddamn good books on the plane ride over; this is what the cabin library offered me. I figured I'd never read a Harlequin romance before, and now was as good a time as any to try.
Plot synopsis: man detective is ruggedly handsome, muscles rippling, chiseled chin, with no ability to get close to anyone etc he has a HAUNTED PAST with this WOMAN WHO HURT HIM THIS ONE TIME! Woman detective is young, gorgeous, sleepy-eyed and A BREATH OF FRESH AIR INTO HIS HORRIBLE MEAN LIFE. Of course they can't stand each other. Then they do it, with much rhythm of hips and smoothness and hardness and whatnot, because, I don't know, they're temporarily insane. PLOT TWIST: she's all "HOLD UP I'M WITH CHILD." Hilarity (and blossoming love) ensues!
I give this book five stars for the audacity it took to write it.
Georgie Poulopoulos has wanted to be a P.I. all her life and is out on surveillance for the first time when she meets another P.I., Murdock. Murdock was in the military when his wife walked out after telling him she'd had an abortion and then killing his daughter in an accident. He's now a loner. Georgie's family does not approve of her being a P.I. and when they find out she's pregnant (from a pre-Murdock one night stand), they really are discouraging. She latches onto Murdock. They do solve the cas and fall in love along the way.
