Recounting her experiences in Vietnam, a former combat nurse describes the misery she encountered while working at the evacuation hospitals at Tuy Hoa and Long Binh and the bureaucracy of the Army. Original.
A real-life "China Beach" memoir br an Army nurse in Vietnam. This is a very personal story of a young, nursing school graduate who grew up in a privileged way and volunteered to serve in Vietnam right out of graduation. While the intensity of Ms Hampton's feelings and experiences come through, the writing is somewhat disorganized and her recall of some specific events is hazy. She does a good job of presenting the frustrations of dealing with an Army bureaucracy that sometimes focused more on career advancement than patient care.
