This was an interesting format. Mrs. Choy diligently drew material from 24 great Christian authors and presented the information in an interview style. I am impressed with the amount of work that must have required.
The subject of the book is the Spirit-filled life, an extremely important and desperately needed topic. She attempts to draw common talking points from 24 of the greatest Christian leaders of the past couple of centuries. I appreciate how she did not hold back from presenting statements and discussions that were in sharp disagreement and contrast with one another.
I must admit that I did not enjoy every "interview". In fact, some of them I felt were completely off doctrinally in their assessment of the Holy Spirit and His ministry and operations. I walked away disappointed with the conclusions of some of the writers. But this did not affect my decision to give the book a 5 star rating because differing viewpoints was part of the concept of the book.
The authors I enjoyed most were E. M. Bounds, Oswald Chambers, G. Campbell Morgan, and Charles Spurgeon. Lewis Chafer I felt was among the most doctrinally sound and was thus also enjoyable. Dwight Moody was very edifying. And Jonathan Goforth was inspiring. The chapter concerning Evan Roberts was interesting and I'm not quite sure of what to make of the Welsh Revival at the moment, which prompts me to want to read more concerning it.
Though the interview style made for a simple read, the repetitive nature of the book sometimes made it a little tedious to read, but not much. Overall, it was an edifying read and so I am grateful for the dear member in my church who gave me this book as a gift. The book definitely encourages me to live a more Spirit-filled life.
