Italian Memorial Sculpture: A Legacy of Love

Rate this book
Italian monumental sculpture of the 19th and early 20th centuries is among the most remarkable ever made, and remains surprisingly unknown. Its emotional charge is caught in this collection of specially taken photographs, while the scholarly texts analyse the iconographic, cultural and art historical background to the works.

The author couldn't decide if this was a photo book or a history book so crammed both into one book. It is the size of a coffee table book yet it's written, looks liked, and reads like a textbook. With so much information you have to search through the small font looking for plate numbers. After locating the number you then have to look for the plate with that number and sometimes they can be on different pages. I would have liked that the photos had captions under or next to the photo instead of the text since the numbers are sometimes out of order. I still can't find one of the plate number for a plate and searched the pages around the plate. There is just so many plate numbers for plates not even near the illustration I'm trying to find information on it's frustrating. With all these numbers from different parts of the book the information I'm looking for is probably hidden in a text far from the illustration I'm looking at. Finally gave up and just looked at the photos and wished I could learn more about the monuments.
