The book I read to research this post was Dog Grooming For Dummies by Margaret H Bonham which is a very good book which I bought from kindle. Grooming is an essential part of having a dog and isn't just about making him look nice it's also about keeping him healthy.
Now apart from all the obvious incentives to your dog from the regular grooming sitting, one of the main payback is that they’ll in fact look better! An unkempt look can reflect poorly on yourself as the owner, so ensuring they look newly made may be much better too!

Now if you’re seeking out a fast way in making your dog appear and feel a million bucks, then grooming might be your answer to the problem. It’s recommended that you should make your puppy towards the groomers every 6-8 weeks based on their coat growth. Of Your dog Stop, each of our groomers are skilled to ensure your dog may have the best pet grooming experience. The book I read to research this post was Dog Grooming For Dummies by Margaret H Bonham which is a very good book which I bought from kindle. Grooming is an essential part of having a dog and isn't just about making him look nice it's also about keeping him healthy. At one time dogs tended to be kept outside in a kennel and people considered grooming to be something rich people did to their dogs. This book is a great introduction to this subject and even has sections on things like what to do if your dog gets skunked and first aid. If you are interested in showing your dog try http://dogpatch.org for nearest competitions to you. If you are interested in learning dog grooming at a school try http://doggroomer.com where they rate the schools and tell you what to look for. By the way an age old remedy for if your dog gets skunked is put tomato soup in a bath mix with water and bath the dog in it. Hairless breeds which do tend to have some hair have to be bathed once a week and long haired breeds have to be bathed every 2 weeks. Some breeds like labradors although they have quite long hair don't require much maintenance. It boils down to the type of hair. Hairless breeds often need moisturizer to nourish the skin. Most long haired dogs have to get used to getting groomed on a regular basis and get used to it and quite enjoy it. You should never use human toothpaste on a dog as the fluoride is toxic to dogs. You can get away with using human shampoo in an emergency occasionally although it makes the hair brittle if used too often. You shouldn't use a hair dryer with the heat setting as that dries the fur out too much making it brittle. There are hair dryers specifically for dogs it's best to use. I did enjoy this book and it's well written and informative.

Information is not specific. Information in each chapter only touches the surface of the topic. After reading the whole book, I still don't know how to groom my Shih-tzu.

It's a good reference book from the library but, unless you show your dogs, it'd be a waste of money to buy it. Most of it is common sense, after all.

Actually not a book to read cover to cover. It is a handy guide to have to check some things when need arise.
