She-Hulk's new villain makes a big move that throws Jen for the loop of her life. Plus, Patsy Walker, also known as Hellcat, returns to help Jen set everything straight.
This storyline with The Scoundrel is so tiring. He’s such an annoying asshole, I roll my eyes whenever he’s on the page. Liked the parts w/ the law firm and Patsy/Jack though!
The pay off better be good with this part of the story. I'll say it before. I'll say it again, the last few issues went WAY downhill compared to what this series was. This issue was better than the last few... But I'm really hope this series ends on a high note. Because this ain't it. :/
I think Rainbow Rowell is doing a nice job of convincing me to actually care about She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts' romance. It's sweet and tender and meaningful. But, that same success also leaves me baffled by this heretofore unnamed complication.
There's a nameless, handsome, Latino thief that Jen keeps fighting. But it's not very satisfying for the audience. This normal-looking guy has Hulk-level strength, and he always escapes. So there is no satisfying conclusion to the punching and brawling.
I just don't understand why Jen is indulging this "romance" at all. He flirts with her during every fight. This issue especially calls attention to the idea that Jen is somehow cheating on Jack with this guy. But... Why? I don't understand why a rational adult woman --a lawyer, no less-- wouldn't just articulate to her other superhero friends what's going on. Why doesn't she tell Hellcat that she's finding herself attracted to this unknown villain? Why doesn't she work with the Fantastic Four more closely, so that Sue and Reed can better hold this guy down for once while Jen hits him?
Rowell is successfully making "superhero romance" more of a legit thing. I just hope she doesn't sacrifice character believability to do it.
The return of fancy dresses and cake wednesday! I am absolutely loving this plot of the sexy mysterious thief guy. Jack has unfortunately become super boring, and that has created quite the whole for thief boy wannabe Gambit to slide in to she-hulk's DMs. Nothing else in the issue was especially noteworthy but none of it was bad, I'm still just loving the vibes of this book.
This is a sweet series that delights in Jen Walters more human conundrums. I'm partial to a more adventure focused punchy and kicky Jen, but I'm enjoying this run immensely.
