Employing the same exacting word-for-word approach as the ASV, a world-class team of conservative translators and scholars drew on the strengths of its predecessor and on new Hebrew and Greek textual sources to produce an all-new translation. The New American Standard Bible (NASB) was released in its entirety in 1971, and was updated in 1995 to render it more understandable to modern-English readers. It is recognized as today's most accurate word-for-word translation.Thousands of in-text application notes will enrich your understanding of the biblical text and show how it relates to what God is doing in your life now. There's not enough room to write what I learned and continue to learn from this book! Continuously reading it, especially now that I am in a bible class about the prophets, and learn more and more every day. :)
Anything NASB by the Lockman Foundation is awesome! Been reading the ASB then the NASB since I was 8 years old, and got a copy of the ASB in the Children's Dedication at the Unitarian-Universalist church in Portsmouth, NH. It's the greatest translation IMO, one-step away from the Literal Bible translation. Very accurate!
I prefer the NASB (New American Standard Bible) and also enjoy the Amplified translation at times, but have all but stopped using the NIV. The Student Study NASB Bible has been excellent and reliable for many years, with excellent notes, insights, and commentary, since it was first introduced to me during undergrad at a Christian university in Olathe, Johnson County, Kansas. I recently purchased my second copy since that original one decades ago, replaced only because they eventually fell apart. I have read this Bible more than one time from cover-to-cover, and generally continuously read it.
I started reading the bible in January 2012 as one of those bargains you shouldn't make with God. I had never read it all the way through and I've taken it it very slow so I could absorb it but I'm left with more questions and challenges to my faith . I guess that's the point. Anyways, I finally accomplished this task and it feels great.
I actually read several different Bibles - NIV Life Application Study Bible, Amplified Bible (2 different ones) Thompson Chain (my 1st bible)and several others... :)
This is a great Bible to have on your Kindle for using in church. The ability to move between books, find a verse, etc, is easy and as fast or faster than looking it up in a paper version.
