Wade in the River: The Story of the African Christian Faith

Rate this book
"Wade in the River" is a fresh approach to the faith of Africa and its contribution to the world. Starting with the Biblical accounts of significant Africans, then passing through early Christianity, winding through the Islamic period, pressing past Western slavery, and finally arriving at the present era, the book describes the riches of ancient, African Christianity. This book fills an important gap in the need for people from all ethnic backgrounds to rethink the idea that "Christianity is a white man's religion."

Very glad this compilation of African Christian history exists in this accessible format: stories of individuals and short essays. It answers many questions I had about Christianity in Africa, and also inspired many more questions, which is exactly what a book like this should do. Not meant to read and then feel closure on the topic, but to inspire an ongoing interest and intentional investigation. Speaking for the majority of the world, we do not think enough about Africa.

A Must read, not only for Orthodox Christians but for anyone who thinks that Christianity is a white European religion. Indispensable for understanding the African connection to Christianity and to better understand that the gospel message has always been for all people.

This is a very enlightening book about the ancient African Orthodox Christian faith. I learned a lot about church history and the African culture. An excellent read for anyone who wants to go deeper in their understanding of the Love of Christ and His Church.

More fuel for the "which is the true religion of Africans" fire. A very detailed, historical recounting of prominent Africans, Saints and revered figures, in the Catholic church. Very insightful and well-written for an easy read. Interesting even if you're not, and I'm not, into the which religion is better debate. These weree real people whose lives can be inspirational to anyone looking for some big footprints to follow.
