This book begins with a provocative statement: that American public schools haven’t reached full integration since the Supreme Court’s 1954 decision in Brown vs. Board of Education. The data provided by Rutgers University-Newark Professor of Urban Education and Policy Edward Fergus demonstrates how students of color have either been over or under-referred for disciplinary measures, special education assessments, and enrollment in gifted programs. Such disparity is due to biased mindsets, resulting in schools that don’t truly serve their communities. Fergus offers a detailed and comprehensive plan for addressing and counteracting bias, written in a practical and accessible style that’s as eye-opening as it is motivating. A must-read for educators who are committed to creating equitable learning environments for all students.

I’m not a great believer in the obsession with data but I do agree with equity. At least being fair to people. This is a guide for leadership to use data to make a more equible environment in schools.
