Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian author, best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908.
Montgomery was born at Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Nov. 30, 1874. She came to live at Leaskdale, north of Uxbridge Ontario, after her wedding with Rev. Ewen Macdonald on July 11, 1911. She had three children and wrote close to a dozen books while she was living in the Leaskdale Manse before the family moved to Norval, Ontario in 1926. She died in Toronto April 24, 1942 and was buried at Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
I read this book years ago and decided to pick it up again since it had been so long. Of course, I watched the original PBS series many years ago. I even got 10 minutes into the new version on Netflix. However, it wasn't the same as the original. I couldn’t get into it. I read the book with the PBS vision of Anne and Marilla Cuthbert in my mind’s eye.
I had trouble finishing this book since I already knew what happened. Normally, this is a good thing. I thought reading this story again would be fun, easy, and not stressful. The miss adventures of Anne’s imagination are always fun. It is, however, a bit stressful how much she hates that boy who challenges her so much, especially when we all know the ending.
