Relates the French writer's novels, four-volume autobiography, sociological studies, and other works to her life, the development of her thought, the history of existentialism, and the intellectual life of post-World War II France
The perfect intro to Simone de Beauvoir. Analysis of her life and work in a well-digestible structure. Fair critique of her shortcomings as an author and philosopher. Just enough mention of Sartre to not overshadow Simone’s own achievements. Written in a stylistically beautiful (but no-frills) prose.
I found this gem in a Little Free Library. Can you believe it!? Cottrell pens an excellent review of de Beauvoir's life and work. Love the book, Simone de Beauvoir, not so much. The more a read about her, the less I like her. I digress. Cottrell's Modern Literature Monograph provides a just analysis of de Beauvoir's writing and philosophy. I learned much about this prominent historical figure. Bravo!
