Sophie works with her family in the local pub that her father started when he first came to Boston. It’s successful business, and she loves working so closely with her family. Until….an incident at the pub with some overfriendly customers. All of a sudden, life takes an unexpected turn.
Sophie finds herself in needs of a new town, and a new home. Boston wasn’t safe for her anymore. So, to give herself a chance at love, Sophie responds to an advert in the Matrimonial Times, hoping to find a home where she’d be needed.
Ned Chapman is a widowed rancher in Missouri, with a six-month-old baby.
Ned is overwhelmed with running his ranch and raising a baby, while still mourning his dead wife. After summoning the courage to place an advertisement in the Matrimonial Times for the sake of his child, Ned meets the ever optimistic and beautiful Sophie.
But there’s conflict, and they find themselves wanting different things.
Sophie discovers that her major setback, wasn’t settling into a different town like she had thought it would be. But rather, can she get through to a man with a broken heart?
Sophie flees an aggressive man who won’t leave her alone. She finds Ned in the mail order bride advertisement pages. He is only looking for a caregiver for his baby daughter. Can Sophie keep herself from falling in love with Ned?
I question the fact that Sophie lived with Ned without being married. Back in those days, her reputation would have been in shreds. Otherwise a short and sweet story.
