Pretty fun volume. Over the top as always, super stylish, storyline itself a bit hard to follow. We have a Twlight hunt but when these characters come to light, we're expected to be surprised or shock, but most times I'm just like "Who is that?" Maybe I'm just not getting invested in the world like I should. Still fun though, with some amazing fight scenes.

Amazing volume!

Heart-breaking and well-balanced. As it's a (third?) reread I know what's about to happen but it doesn’t lessen the story.
Gangsta is definitely one of my favorite manga.

What?! Nic is a ___! And that is Alex's long-lost sibling!

Again, this volume has many twists and actions. 😨

One of my current favorite manga, with expected gangster themes, set in a kind of alternate universe where Twilights are being killed and Handymen, our heroes, are called upon to intervene. This volume focuses on Alex, though her other two entrap characters, Nic and Worick, are also of course pretty central. This is, for manga, subtle, nuanced, with some pathos, as one might expect from a quality gangster story.

Really great Volume and well put together.
I feel like the story is finally coming into place as we see a TON of new characters that will appear in the next and maybe final volumes. It also talks more about Nicolas and his rank, which helps understand why he always overdoses. Miss Loretta has to be my favorite so far as she is a great leader at her age, I hope to see her more in the upcoming chapters. You also get more into the Corsica family’s affiliations so it’s easier to understand who is with who.

I love the style and craft of the art, and the characters and story hold my interest, enough to warrant 4 stars for me. But I must say, I found this book, and the entire series actually, to be very frustrating because I'm often confused by the art and the plot.
What bugs me about the art...
* Very tight closeups, so close that it's not clear who or what is being depicted
* Disorienting perspective changes panel-to-panel, even crossing the 180-degree line
* Panels where everything is only partially in the frame, as if the artist were a photographer whose finger twitched at the wrong time
* Action panels that are so chaotic that you can't tell what's happening
* Dialog bubbles aren't always clear about who's talking
* Characters being drawn in a very different cartoonish style during heightened emotional situations (although I suspect this is a manga trope that I just don't 'get')

Artists will use these techniques intentionally. But for me Kohske overdoes it, both in frequency and intensity.

What bugs me about the plot...
* Character motivations are confusing (not in a good way)
* Character reactions are odd or exaggerated (but this could just be a Manga style thing)
* Too abrupt scene transitions

It's a long list of gripes... and yet I still like the book quite a lot. Go figure.

"This city ain't the kinda place that's good for someone like you."

Gangsta vol. 4 builds off events and features characters from previous volumes. Don't start here - best to read from the beginning.

The mass slaughter of Twilights has brought even more chaos to Ergstulum than normal. The ruling mafia families clash over how to respond as well as their individual secret agendas. Caught in the middle are the Handymen, and the past lies in wait to haunt them all.

The tension is kept high in this installment as a lot of long running plot threads come together in explosive fashion. There's a lot of intriguing information and hints about the families and Ergastulum in general layered among the plentiful action. One of the things that keeps this manga consistently compelling is the careful attention paid to all characters, including the supporting cast. They are all well developed and three dimensional, which really adds depth to the story and makes the already intense events even more engaging and gripping.

Volume 4 is another strong entry in the Gangsta manga. The multiple intertwined plotlines could unfold in numerous ways, and I can't wait to read more.

I was concerned that after some of the concluding actions in the end of Volume 3 of the "Gangsta" series that I would refrain from diving deeper into the series and peacefully retire the manga.

Now I am glad I did not.

There are several events and characters that develop in Volume 4 that will fascinate the reader into wanting more. Loretta's actions and purpose for the Twilights is one that I am looking forward to learning more about, as well as the drugged fog being lifted from Alex's past.

Nicholas remains an oddity, but in a good way. As he develops more and more (but more like centimeter by centimeter) he is an antihero people will admire.

What will happen after Volume 4's brutal conclusion? Volume 5 can answer that!

A lot happened in this volume and then it ended in some painful revelations. I‘m nervous to read the next volume.

Another really strong volume that ups the stakes of the world while really delving into Nic, Worick and Al's relationships... The introduction of Al's brother is also really intriguing.

Jesus fucking Christ I have never been so stressed reading this series. Can't form coherent paragraphs so let's just get these thoughts out of the way:

- right off the bat Alex in overalls reminding me of Winry <3
- now see there's a brother sister thing going to happen and it will break me I just know it
- hard to see Alex still going through the process of healing from her traumatic past but I'm also happy she's surrounded by what's her new family and taken care of
- I see Koshke having Nic embrace Alex from the back I see you
- also thank you for that cat sidequest
- the entire arc at Bastard had my heart pounding
- um hello Galahad? as if I need another fictional character to thirst over?
- on a more serious note this shows how we need each other. people need people to protect one another

How is this possible? Just getting better and better in every volume.

Art: 5 stars
-->Characters: 5 stars
-->Backgrounds: 5 stars
Story: 4 stars
Characters: 4 stars

This manga started as a "no plotline" story (Berniyas doing 'works' and mafia fights) and now it has a pretty good plot (hunting the Twilight hunters). Simple but good.

The battle scenes were AMAZING, it's unbelievable how Kohske improved her art. New characters are coming and, again, I'm intrigued though I didn't like that much certain new guy.

Anyway... I got what I wanted... ALEX and NICOLAS. Am I the only one who ship them?

Only took me five and half years to keep reading this series, and I regret all the time I wasn't reading vol 4. Family ties get complicated all over this volume, and we get to see Marco and Loretta be bad-asses. Alex gets several moments to prove what she can do, while Nic and Worick bring their usual mix of competency and disaster to the literal party that is the setting for issues 19-22. I liked how the slice-of-life issues 17 and 18 did a great job advancing character story and setting up some of what was to come.

I think I’m going to end this series here. I was having a good time with the first few volumes learning about the characters and their relationships, but the world building and plotting seems very inconsistent and at times doesn’t make a lot of sense. The constant sexualisation of Alex and other female characters that I was willing to look past before is only getting more egregious.

3.25 stars.

Slowly starting to lose interest in this series. Luckily there's only three volumes left. I feel like what happened in the previous volumes didn't set up everything that is happening too well.
