Bridge Over Stormy Water

Rate this book
Bridge House isn't going to fix itself. Or, is it ...Misty may not have mastered the art of being a mermaid, but the work must go on. Her family B&B is in dire need of renovation. With only three short months and a questionable contractor with a lot of gas to complete the work, ignoring her growing siren's call is the least of her worries.

A series of suspicious setbacks and a house that doesn't want to be renovated keep Misty on her toes ... and her tail seems to like it that way. Until the pressure grows, and a surprise visit has her once more straddling the magic and the mundane.

But will an unexpected alliance give her the courage she needs to press forward? Or is her glimmer of hope just the calm before the storm?

Bridge Over Stormy Water is the sharp-witted second short in the Murky Midlife Waters paranormal women’s fiction series. If you like relatable middle-aged snark, surprisingly hot trolls, and mermaids with backaches, then you’ll love JB Lassalle’s dive into magical mayhem.

Get swept away by the tide of adventure in Bridge Over Stormy Water - a mermaid tale like no other!

Jen B. Lassalle

Jen Lassalle is a writer of paranormal women's fiction and midlife fantasy fiction under the pen name JB Lassalle. She likes strong females who are more than just a bit awkward, dimensional males who roll with the punches, and found family friendships that triumph over nuanced bad guys you love to hate.

Jen is a New Orleans resident. The city, and the surrounding areas, serve as a rich backdrop for a world where magic exists and mystical creatures are not only real, but live among us.

When Jen isn’t writing, she’s hanging with her family and friends at a local park or coffee shop. She likes working out, which is kind of weird, loves yoga, and plays video games. Of course, she reads.

Jen and her husband have two kids. One is an avid competitive swimmer (which sucks up all their weekend time). The other is a daydreamer like Jen who plays the Mega Man theme on his guitar and binge watches Stranger Things.

Bridge Over Stormy Water is the second short story in the Murky Midlife Waters series. Misty Ledoux grew up in Treater’s Way only to leave when she was twelve, after her mother left Misty and her father. She finally returns to Treater’s Way and her long-suppressed magical legacy bubbles to the surface. Only now, Misty has a temperamental house, a shady contractor, and some suspicious happenings to deal with, as well.
Bridge Over Stormy Water is a fantastic paranormal novella. I loved the characters and the setting. As someone in her late-forties, I enjoyed this middle-aged paranormal women’s fiction story.

I really enjoyed the author's writing style, the pacing of the novella, and the way the story is being developed. I’m intrigued by Misty’s new life, her friends, the townsfolk, and her aunt and the B&B. I can’t wait to see where the author takes Misty. Welcome to Treater’s Way, where nothing is what it seems.

Bridge Over Stormy Waters is the second novella in the Murky Midlife Waters Series. initially didn't realize these were novellas, but have been pleasantly surprised. You definitely need to read the other books in the series, or this one feels like it ends abruptly.

Misty is starting to come into her own here, and starts re-building her life, but things can never just be that simple! We get some new characters, and more in depth into the overarching story here. I really enjoy reading about Misty, I love her character and it is refreshing to read about an adult in adult situations in one of these types of books!

I am loving this series so far, and the novellas are the perfect length for an evening read.

When I first started reading this, I didn’t realize it was a short story in a series and as I completed the story, I was a little irritated that it felt like the book was ending right as the story was really taking off. Kind of like a cliffhanger in the season finale of your favorite show. But once I read the series as a whole, I REALLY enjoyed this story. Please read it expecting to get the other two books. If you’re anything like me, you will not be disappointed you did. I am hoping for/looking forward to more to come in the series.

Bridge Over Stormy Waters is book 2 in the Murky Middlife Waters by J B Lassalle. I am enjoying this novella series. Book 2 finds Misty beginning to except her magic and her position on Bridge Island. I met her daughter, Charley. I don't want to spoil this exceptional story so I will only say that everything falls apart and Misty is fighting for what is her birth right. I think you will truly enjoy this series. Bridge Over Stormy Water

Book 2 has been just as interesting and entertaining as the first. Misty now needs to get her self together and put Lucas in his place.

This is an interesting series of 5 books. There are essentially novellas at 85 to about 100 pages. (could be combined into 2 or 3 books. Some fun characters and situations. I enjoyed these books

Amazon synopsis:
Misty Ledoux just got shoved out of her empty nest. After sacrificing her needs for her politician husband only to catch him cheating, she retreats to her dotty aunt’s secluded B&B to escape scrutiny. Once there, she discovers her family home is in ruins, the business is failing, and the inhabitants expect her to meet shockingly supernatural expectations.

She’s convinced she’s losing it until a devil of a hangover reveals a magical legacy she’d buried in the bayou. With the help of a goddess bff and a marshmallow-obsessed talking alligator, Misty uncovers the powerful siren's call to her mermaid heart.

But her tail isn't exactly cooperating, and a shady troll has his sights set on her family home.

Will a lifelong sense of abandonment deprive Misty of the inner do-over she desires, or can she bridge the gap between magic and the mundane?

Fixin’ up takes plans
Whether it’s a broken down bed & breakfast or a broken heart, there’s a process. What’s wrong, what ‘s the end goal, how does one get there, etc. No use dwelling on what’s broken…the longer it’s left to fester the more difficult it’ll be to repair.

When looking all around for answers or solutions, just remember this:
‘Sometimes, if you look closer, and tap into your memories, you'll see what’s been there all along.’

Fave line:
‘Not everything has to serve a purpose, Misty Mae. Some of them are just for pretty.’

Next in series are the upcoming ‘Bridge Over Shifting Water’ (expected 30 August), ‘Bridge Over Spooky Water’ (October), and ‘Bridge Over Seasoned Water’ (November).
