I came across the first book in this Bad Blood series on the shelf from HPB but did not know at the time it was a series until I found out here on GR.
I had to purchase the last two books for my Kindle because I could not find a physical copy online for a decent price.
Slight spoilers ahead.
Valerie Sherwood is now a sophomore in high school and every twenty-eight days; she now has to look forward to turning into a werewolf. Her late classmate Jay bit her and killed a bunch of her friends before one of them, Diane, blew his brains out with silver bullets.
Di now goes to a private school on the east coast and Val hasn't hung around much with Freddie since last year. The only good thing is that Valerie's psychiatrist dad knows she is a werewolf so he can avoid bringing home Italian food with too much garlic or any silver jewelry for a gift as they burn her skin.
Valerie has also made a friend over the summer named Elise who shares her interest in books but still has become a third wheel when she starts dating a guy named Steve. Valerie would love to rekindle a relationship with Freddie since he got his braces off and grew taller over the summer, also he works hard out on his family farm, so he has the toned body.
Could be a little bad blood between them since Freddie did shoot Valerie with a silver bullet when she was in wolf form thinking it was Jay. Awkward to talk romantically with that sort of lingering in the air.
Freddie starts talking to Valerie again, but it has nothing to do with dating.
Children have gone missing and he wonders if Valerie might know something about that. Despite having a separate mind from the wolf, Valerie knows she hasn't killed anyone but has detected a scent out on her full moon walks.
That only relieves Freddie halfway because he has done more than just improve his aim, he has done tons of research on werewolves. Since they share the same reactions to both garlic and silver, vampires have connections to werewolves.
They can control werewolves to be their servants and if you kill a werewolf, it can come back as a vampire. So, either Jay came back as a bloodsucker, or some vampire is pissed that his wolfy slave has been killed.
Valerie doesn't think too much of it until she sees Elise becoming even more pale and thin despite being a vegetarian. It isn't until one night in a dream that a man in a grey suit knocks upon the doorstep of Valerie's home and asks to be invited in...
As if that weren't enough to deal with...Valerie's dad is starting to date again!
*GASP!*
I'm sure in no way is his new girlfriend Regina or her brother Jonathon relevant to this story...
Hunters' Moon is still horror but not as violent as Bad Blood since we get no details on any human death but a lot of description on some undead kills. Valerie is still a strong female lead as our main protagonist and the supernatural of the plot makes the book interesting, but it is all about Valerie being adjusted to her new lifestyle yet still being a mopey high school kid.
Not big on the social scene but insecure when her long widowed dad finds love again. As most sequels in a trilogy, this second part is only a lead up to what can be expected in the final chapter.
