OH MY GOSH, CAN SOMEONE FIRE THE EDITOR PLEASE??? The amount of typos is ever increasing. The amount of times I have had to stop and go back to understand because of an error is so annoying. I am about to just Google what happened to Mindy and be done with this author. I looked and saw that this series is slated for 14 books, with a book a month releasing in the fall. I cannot imagine the dumpster fire those are going to be. It is sad because the stories themselves are great. The editor is costing this author readers. The bridge killer was interesting but even I'm starting to struggle with the amount of serial killers being crammed into this tiny geographical area. I really wanted to stick with this author, but I AM STRUGGLING.
The story was good but the audiobook has computer generated narration, which has an English accent, does not provide enough nuance/definition when switching between characters, does not convey the emotions, and only speaks the words as they are written.
I have loved this series from the start. The overall plot has been great and has kept my attention. Unfortunately, this book felt a bit rushed. There were a ton of grammatical errors and rough writing to the point I wondered if it was ever even edited at all. It made it very hard to stay focused on the book. Otherwise, it was a good read.
This is the fourth book in Rylie Dark’s Hailey Rock FBI series, and to be honest, it reads like that — Book 4. The setup is familiar- Hailey, a BAU profiler, gets pulled back into her small hometown to help her estranged sister, now the sheriff, investigate a series of murders. The emotional stakes are high, but whether they land depends on how invested you are in the earlier books. The pacing is tight. If you're in the mood for a quick cat-and-mouse thriller, this will scratch that itch. The mystery is structured well enough that most readers won’t guess the killer. There’s a steady stream of red herrings, and the ending seems to surprise people, at least on the surface. There’s a synthetic quality to this — not just the AI-narrated audiobook (yes, they used a robotic voice called “Caroline”), but the character work too. Hailey’s supposed internal conflict with her sister and her past is mentioned, but it doesn’t feel lived-in. It’s plot over people, and if you’re expecting depth or psychological nuance, it’s not here. Also, if you haven’t read the earlier books, expect to feel like you’re missing backstory. It’s not impenetrable, but there’s an assumption that you already care about these people. It’s a fast entertaining read that does its job — but let’s not pretend it’s doing more than that. Great for killing a few hours. Just don’t go in expecting Mindhunter or even Criminal Minds at its best.
2.5-3⭐️Hmmm… new audiobook “narrator.” I think it’s computer generated, British and not much inflection—so that’s annoying. Story is okay but the perpetrator is no one we’ve encountered or heard of so that makes the resolution super unexciting. The secondary stories (what happened to Mindy and Hailey’s love life) are why I keep reading thus far. However, I think I may just “google” (in a few years) to find out what happens in the secondary stories as I’ve heard the series is going to be 14 books and they’re really not that good. 😩
Idk if I’m going to be able to finish this audiobook. Author changed to AI Narrator and it’s awful. I’m so annoyed because I love the series but can’t stand the narration. It’s so hard to keep track of what’s actually happening in the story and it’s all so flatly read. The AI also reads the asterisk in the book which is extra annoying.
I love this series so far The one thing I will say is that it starts to get slow towards the middle but I think it's because I am too impatient and want to know who the killer is. I can't wait for the next one, hopefully we get more info about Mindy

Hailey Dark returns to her hometown but she gets pulled into yet another murder investigation. Big sis the local sheriff is on a leave if absence and is determined to solve the disappearance of their younger sister before Hailey the FBI BAU star. Lots of action and family drama! Hard to put down.
Th plot fresh and new and as interesting as the first book. The familiar characters are there and more well defined as we learn more about them. The plot holds your interest to the end and the pages fly by and before you know it you have come to the end with a satisfactory solution.
Holy Cliff Hanger! Honestly wasn't a fan of this book due to the consant repeat of details from past books in the series. The ending finally caught my attention again which kinda sucks but can't wait for next book.
*Corrected* - no after waiting for new release to come out, The repeat is a good refresh of what was past read.. but ONLY if you dont read series back to back lol
Hailey left her hometown to make a nanme for herself.she has not returned till the FBI send her's. to help solve the murders that are happening there. Her sister is sheriff could they work together or still hard feelings. I liked that the two sisters now older didnt realize how they each were feeling back then. Enjoyable series to read. Given arc for my voluntary review
