The subject matter is of the highest order; the lives and teachings of godly men. Mr. Fedotov has distilled these lives and teachings to their essence. I read all those lives in the book except that of the founder of the schismatic Old Believers, whose life, however holy, testifies that Christ is divided- in reference to His body, the Church. There is much wisdom and inspiring examples of fervent Christianity in these lives.
