Foam: Waves Aren't the Only Giants Cass Must Face to Survive

Rate this book
Foam is a suspense fueled adventure that takes the reader on a wild ride of waves, freediving through underwater caves, and a race against time to find an ancient treasure.
After tragedy strikes, Cassandra Lee, an out-of-work journalist, runs to the tropical island where her dreams were supposed to come true. Attempting to get her life and career back, Cass begins research on a local freediver’s death but instead uncovers a drug ring and kidnapping plot. With trouble on her heels (if you could call flip-flops heels), she realizes this sleepy surf town has more spines than a sea urchin.
Strap on your leash and paddle out with Cass as she gets tangled in the dangerous undertow of addiction, death and disappearances. She must claw her way to the surface and trust some unlikely characters to survive. But will she trust the right ones?

Foam by Laurel Senik is a suspense thriller and will make a quick, fun beach read. The protagonist Cass has suffered several significant losses in her life and is struggling to come to terms with them, her relationship with her mom, and her desire to become the investigative reporter that's she's dreamed of becoming. In the wake of her most recent loss--the death of her fiance-- she decides to stay at a friend's home in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Cass surfs and gets drawn into an intrigue involving drugs, murder, and missing persons.

The author has created a great sense of place in this novel; the descriptions of the settings are well done and her use of surfers' language works to add a good vibe. My main critique is that several threads could have been tied up more cleanly at the end--primarily the investigation into her fiance's death. Her renewed relationship with her mom also could have been more fully developed. All in all, a well-paced, fun thrilled.

Foam follows surf-obsessed Cass as her world is turned upside down.

Heartbroken and alone, Cass goes to the one place she feels safe: Puerto Rico. Here she adjusts to her new life, meets new people, and experiences even smaller-town coastal living than what she’s used to.

This book captures the beauty and feeling of coastal living perfectly. With stunning settings like Wrightsville Beach, Wilmington, Nova Scotia, and Rincón, this is a book for every beach girl at heart.

The author effortlessly weaves through three settings, tying them all up in a neat bow by the end. Suspenseful until the last page, it is easy to get lost in the tension and thrill of this book.

Loved everything about this book!! Action and suspense, ups and downs made this an amazing read! Now I’m going to start saving for a Puerto Rican vacation because this book makes you want to fly there asap!!! Cass is a bad ass, I loved the character development of the other supporting characters as well. This is a must read on your summer vacation this year. I’m glad it was a part of mine!

Picked up this book at a local bookstore in Ocean Isle, NC. Originally picked it up because the cover caught my eye (as a surfer) and then read the back and knew it would be good. I finished this books in days. If you love surfing, treasure hunting, and murder definitely grab this book.

It was fun reading about a place I know and love. This story had all the elements I like and provided a can’t-put-down book- adventure, mystery, treasure, a lil love/lust and a comeback that catapults life well beyond the setback.
