The first Western in a brand new series from E.C. Hanson!

Mercury Hodge wants to hang up his guns and spend the second half of his life on woodworking projects. But the county of Dingley Dell always keeps that from happening. When the local sheriff’s sister-in-law goes missing, Mercury reluctantly accepts the job after he learns that his bonus is a rare bottle of whiskey. However, he soon realizes that the gig involves a baby-stealing operation that opens the door to him reflecting on his harsh upbringing. When pitted against a worthwhile adversary with a foul sense of humor named Desmond Ritter, Mercury wonders if he ever should have accepted the job in the first place.

This was so much fun!! Not only will Mercury Hodge make for a great series of books, he would make for a great uncensored streaming television series. I greatly enjoyed the story, I greatly enjoyed the characters, and the humor was the perfect amount. Bravo!!

Well Yee-Haw that was fun! That was a rollicking good time!!
All the stars are out for this light-hearted and bullet ridden gallivant with Mercury Hodge as your guide.
Hanson gets better and better with each new book he writes and he was darn good to start with. I am ready to dive into book two of the series as soon as I can.

Warm Up Western. Mount up!

I am new to the Western Genre. This being my second one, I'm still testing the waters. This was a short, neat, story introducing Mr. Hanson's Western warrior: Mercury Hodge. He is a bounty hunter that wants to retire. Unfortunately he's good at his job and work will always find him. This book gives us a taste of Hodge as he takes one more job. I feel the story is the cliche western storyline minus pistols at high noon. Instead, we get a bit of a mystery and a case to solve. I like this a lot and it made it easier for me to really get into the story and connect with the characters as Hodge tries to solve his case and go home. There are a handful of characters to get to know, but there's not a whole lot of character development outside of Mercury and maybe three others. This is a short story/novella so it moves pretty quick in some spots a little too fast and some not fast enough. This may be why we don't get a whole lot of character development. I will say, the slow spots usually have some humor which makes the drag not bad. And I am definitely not mad about this. Overall I enjoyed this book and I have book 2 in my library because I really want more of Mercury Hodge's history.

What a fun way to step outside the dark fiction box! A Western novella that’ll grab your attention and keep it.

Mercury Hodge is a rough-around-the-edges, whiskey drinking, wannabe retired bounty hunter who reluctantly (that’s saying it lightly) accepted one last job.

Hanson took some pretty dark topics and somehow kept my nerves at bay… for the most part. My heart raced as I flipped through the pages, but I trusted E.C. with the characters I loved most. Did he break that trust or win me over with his storytelling heroics? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

I look forward to seeing what happens to this clever cowboy next!

Lone Wolf

Mercury Hodge is a flawed antihero.  He's motivated by booze and is trying to leave his gun for hire life behind him so he can pursue his passion of woodworking. However, he is obligated to complete one last job.

I've never read the Western genre prior to this book. I'm a major E.C. Hanson fan, so I had to give this one a try. I was happy to see the usual instant scene setting, witty banter, and action-packed narrative I've always appreciated with his writing.  This is an excellent shoot-em-up tale and a great foundation to start the series. I'll definitely be reading the next book.

Hanson is quick to the draw with his short chapters yet keeps the reader rooting for his protagonist, Mercury, in this fast-moving, heart-pulling story!
The flip between his usual horror works to a western happens seamlessly.

This nifty new Western novella by @haddonfieldhanson is a fantastic start to a series that’s sure to land on everyone’s radar this summer.

Hanson has given us a character to charm the cowboy boots right off ya! Mercury Hodge is a semi retired bounty hunter who reluctantly takes on a new stint to find a missing woman. His payment? I rare bottle of aged whiskey. Things get rowdy right quick and I loved the wild ride. I’m definitely looking forward to more Merc 🤠
