Rule of Shadows is the second book in the Shadows and Starlight series. In this book, Ana shifts her focus, leaves school, and devotes her time to searching for the people who murdered her family and securing her throne. There is a little more progress in her relationship with Samuel, and Ana's brothers make an appearance, becoming a more critical part of the story. Ultimately, Ana realizes she still knows nothing because she is still tricked, learns the people around her can't be trusted, and there is a huge twist. These books are pretty good young adult books, but I still think the author missed some opportunities to make this world amazing with some unique worldbuilding. It's a different planet, and there are so many things that are too much like Earth, so I'm sticking with 4 stars.
