AHOM - THE LAND OF GLORY, BRAVERY, SACRIFICE AND PATRIOTISM. Lachit Borphukan falls in love with Princess Padmini. But her father, Swargadeo Jayadhwaj Singha, the king of the Ahom kingdom, finds out and throws Lachit out of the capital, Jorhat. A few days later, the Ahom capital is attacked by Aurangzeb's forces. The king signs a truce treaty, thereby ceding part control of his kingdom to the Mughals. For Lachit and his best friend, Prince Chakradhwaj, the terms of the treaty are humiliating. Within days their troubles multiply as a prince from a kingdom loyal to the Ahoms misleads other minor kingdoms and attacks Jorhat. As Lachit and Prince Chakradhwaj defend the capital, this battle has the power to change the future of the Ahom kingdom forever. Can Lachit, Prince Chakradhwaj and Princess Padmini restore the honour of the Ahoms by defeating the rebels and breaking free from the Mughal stranglehold?
As someone from Assam the stories of Lachit Borphukan resides inside our heart. His valour and bravery stories are sung in every household of Assam. Here, in this book ‘Brahmaputra’ both the author’s (Vijayendra Prasad and Kulpreet Yadav) have presented the story of Lachit Borphukan from the time of his inception to the brave wars he fought. Various sides of Lachit Borphukan are added in the book like him as a son, a friend, a student and obviously the famous of all is his love for his motherland. Special importance and significance is given to his friendship with Prince Chakradhwaj, how they managed to bring more valour to the Ahom Kingdom.
The Brahmaputra is the first book in the series. And I eagerly look forward to upcoming books. The genre of this book is historical fiction therefore while reading, readers will find the use of creative liberty by the authors. I appreciate the use of simplicity and lucid language by the authors. This makes reading this book very easy and convenient. Moreover, it’s a quick and engaging read. So, if anyone wants to read a fast paced historical fiction then this book definitely meets the criterion.
The representation of Ahom Kingdom presented with comprehensible writing along with concise format makes this book likable.
Authors are trying to manipulate the history of the Ahom Dynasty.
Authors should know that if they are writing Historical Fiction then they have limited freedom to fictionalize the facts. The Capital of Ahom Kingdom had changed to Jorhat in the year of 1794 when the Ahom Swargaweo was the Gaurinath Singha (just google it, you will get the basic info about it). And about the looks of Ahom Kings, about the relations between the kings and the Borphukan everything in your book is wrong. This book is full of a misrepresentation of the Ahom Dynasty and the Assam History. Lachit Borphukan is not a Hero of Love ! And for kind information, Swargadeo Jaydhwaj Singha and Lachit Borphukan are relatives.
To the authors- Read once "The Ahoms" by Arup Kumar Dutta. If you need more books then i will help you but stop messing with our history.
Brahmaputra: The Ahom Son Rises - 1 by V. Vijayendra Prasad, Kulpreet Yadav . Staying quite near Assam I have heard some stories about the brave son of Assam that is Lachit Borpukhan. In this historical fiction, the authors pick up his tale and give it a new perspective. Starting with Lachit's mother's vision before his birth, his unconventional birth gives him a deep association with the deadly reptiles - crocodiles. . Chapter after chapter Lachit's life unfolds, as at the gurukul he meets Prince Chakradhwaj and in their friendly competition, they become loyal, inseparable friends. Together they will be a power to reckon with and shape the future of Ahom markedly. . The next and most significant chapter in Lachit's life is when he falls in love with princess Padmini and due to their immature activities, Lachit is banished by Padmini's father, the then Swargadeo. This event converges with the attack of the Mughals and the takeover of Ahom and also Padmini's being taken hostage. . The next part of the story is the after effects of the previous incidents and build up of Lachit's character, changing associations with Chakradhwaj, the war status in Ahom and so on, ending on a cliffhangar, denoting the sequel/sequels to come! . The language is very simplistic, making it very easy to read and personally, the book is pretty focussed on Lachit and his relationship, character etc and the story actually surrounds him. Being fiction as stated, the history I think has been inspired from and not focussed on but that takes nothing away from the pleasure of reading it! .

As a reader, I was happy with the story. The book was about the Ahom dynasty and I loved reading about this dynasty. This book made me aware of this dynasty and Lachit Borphukan and this prompted me to learn a lot more about them.
This story can be classified as a historical fiction, where fictional elements are added to history to make it an enjoyable read. Even when I selected this book, I knew that the story will not have the accurate details. Therefore, I believe that the story should be read as a fictional one instead of as a historical record.
The book's main aim is to portray the valour of Lachit Borphukan, whose fight against the Mughals have strongly secured his position as one of the courageous people in the history of India. All along the story, we see his courage and strength. I'm curious as to what might happen in the next book. Overall, the book was a great one.
The Book chronicles the incidents that unfolded in the Ahom Kingdom in the East when the Mughal empire under Aurangezeb's rule attacked and took over the administration of the land. The story centres on the character of Lachit Borphukhan, son of the Head of Defence of the Kingdom and how he strives to help free the kingdom from the Mughal rule and to win back his love who has been taken away. Overall the book is an easy read. Not very enthralling or exciting, and at times some of the incidents have been so weakly picturised that a sarcastic "really?" rang through my mind more than a few times.
A small stretch of land beside the mighty river Brahmaputra, pouring beauty and courage. Ahom, the land of glory, bravery and patriotism. Amidst stands the people of this land whose fate is about to change. Lachit Borphukan the brave son of the military commander Borphukan falls in love with Princess Padmini. His words fall into deaf ears when he discovers and communicates that Ahom capital is soon going to be attacked by Aurangzeb's forces. The King, giddy with his self vanity and ego throws Lachit out of the capital. Soon enough, a few days later the capital is striked by Mughal forces forcing the king to submit. The final blow, Princess Padmini is taken away. Now the serene Ahom stands in complete chaos with everyone plotting against each other. Will Lachit along with his friend Chakradhwaj be able to bring back the lost glory and peace of Ahom? Will they be able to restore the honour of the Ahoms by defeating the rebels and breaking free from the Mughal stranglehold?
'Brahmaputra' is the first book in the Ahom Son Rises series. This is a historical fiction, a part of it is based on the famous Lachit Borphukan who is known for his victory in the Battle of Saraighat but mostly the book is borne out of author's imagination. When I first started the book, it was not very promising, primarily because the language was too casual at the beginning with childish dialogues. For the first couple of chapters it was same but after a shaky start the book takes interesting twist and turns. The writing though seems has been kept simple purposefully so that a beginner can enjoy the book. What I enjoyed most is the characters, they saved the day. Lachit although is the main character, I was drawn to Chakradhwaj, he is a character in growing. Padmini is a mysterious character and another unique character is Veda. The relationship this four share with each other and the character sketches outlining their possible growth is all I'm up for. Since this is the first book in the series, there are plenty of chances for them to develop.
The book ends with a very good cliffhanger. It would be interesting to read what happened next, it definitely piqued my curiosity. I would have enjoyed the plot more if the narrative was on point.
Brahmaputra - The Ahom son rises-1 By Vijayendra prasad and Kulpreet Yadav
This one is an interesting tale involving Lachit Borphukan of the Ahom kingdom, delving into the genre of historical fiction. I must appreciate the attempt in bringing a story of valour, love and bravery from the North East India into the mainstream.
The narration is simple and will keep you engaged, especially if you have interest in getting to know more about Princess Padmini, the Mughal attack, strategies, betrayal and friendship.
The relationship dynamics between Lachit and Prince Chakradhwaj is intriguing as well. The story involves the typical insider betrayal, battle techniques, sacrifice and love triangles. It is not something extraordinary or unique but the people and setting bring in the fresh dimension.
Many aspects intrigued me like Lachit being the crocodile whisperer and calling them Bada Bhai!, pouring hot oil mix on the fort walls to prevent rebels from coming in, to name a few.
I do not know the historical correctness of the narrative, so cannot comment on that but otherwise it was a good read. I would have liked a better climax and ending too but looking forward to next in the series!
