I enjoyed this. A fairly short story but enjoyable. The main character in this story is Megan, who is surprised at the start to find out she has been left half of her Great Uncle’s detective agency and flat above in his will. She barely even knew the man and only spent a short time with him when she was younger. Nevertheless, she goes to check out the detective agency. She used to be a florist but decided she would try and see what the detective agency was like and if she could be any help. When she arrives, she finds the other partner, Josh. He is really not keen on the idea of her being partner and takes an instant disliking to her. It seems he thought he would buy her out and he thought the flat above would be his once Roland died. Josh’s father used to be Roland’s partner and his share was passed onto Josh when his father died. He worked with Roland for a while but after Josh’s dad died, Roland turned to drink and didn’t have much to do with the business. Megan decides to get her feet under the table and do some admin work to start with. Josh is already tied up in another investigation so when she is in the office on her own one day, a lady calls who Josh is already familiar with, wanting her husband to be tracked down with a mystery female. She tells Megan that he’s at a hotel with this female and she wants photos taking for proof so they can divorce. Megan feels troubled, not sure if to do it as Josh said not to do anything while he’s gone, but she thinks it’s important to this customer and heads off to find the proof the lady needs. She gets the proof, but it’s not so simple and she is spotted. When Josh finds out he is furious at her, and concerned about losing customers because of her clumsiness. Another job comes along when a couple come in, looking for a relative who has been estranged for years. They have a sick daughter who needs a transplant and they have all not been able to help as they haven’t been matched, so they need to find the lost aunt who can hopefully help to provide a match for the transplant their daughter needs. This is the part when Megan and Josh work together and begin to get closer whilst they look for the missing Aunt.
It’s a really good read, quite fast paced. I think because it’s a little unknown, (wasn't on Goodreads when I first read this so it had to be added), there were so many punctuation errors in this, and spelling mistakes etc which did put me off a little, it needs another proof read. The story was good and kept me reading, short chapters and engaging to make me interested to see how the story unfolded. It was a game of cat and mouse and a little trouble thrown in. Very good read.
This is a gentle romance with wonderful, believable characters wrapped around a story that touches the heart. One of those novels that you recall fondly in years to come. Wonderful, engaging and clever.
