What an interesting story! I'm not a big speculative fiction reader, in fact it's a genre that I rarely read, but something about this book's description intrigued me, and I was excited to request a free review copy.
This book kind of reminds me a little bit of the movies 13 Going on 30, and Isn't it Romantic?, with a Christian fiction twist and a story that is all it's own! The Ring Does Not Fit is a great story that does a beautiful job of pointing the reader to Jesus, without ever being preachy!
This story is a quick read that kept me flipping pages super fast because I had to know what would happen next!
I really liked main character Alena, though there were times that I got a tad annoyed with her because she couldn't see what was right in front of her face, but let's face it, I don't know about you but that's something I know I myself have done numerous times, so it's definitely true to life and very realistic!
Overall, even though it's not my genre of choice I really enjoyed The Ring Does Not Fit and highly recommend it!

This is an eye-opening cautionary tale that is pertinent to most people. The subject is marriage, and it is applicable to men and women before or after they are married. Many different aspects of marriage are brought up, and more importantly, the question of what kind of person should one be, and what kind of spouse should one look for, going into marriage.

Alena was feeling dissatisfied in her life and in her marriage, something that many people have gone through at one time or another, and she truly had her eyes opened as a result of the events in this story. She had many changes to make and her transformation was satisfying to observe. Discovering why her husband, Lee, was like he was, was affirming.

This book is not long, and it is easy to read. It is also a book to make one think, so I recommend it.

I received an eARC of this book through Celebrate Lit for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

This story reminded me of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” with a twist. I was able to relate to Alena more than I wanted to. She was so critical of her husband, marriage and life in general. Poor thing thought the grass was greener on the other side. A very special guest in the story takes Alena on a journey through several “marriages,” that she thought would be better. Many of us are guilty of complaining about our spouse . Sometimes our eyes wander and think what it would be like to be with someone else.
The author does a great job of showing Alena what her life may be like and as the journey continues she starts to realize how much she misses her husband. There were a few points in the story that I thought were key points. One of them was Alena didn’t know what love really was because she didn’t know what loving Jesus meant. She had no relationship with Him and really didn’t believe in Him. The second point which I found to be powerful was that Jesus has given us the spouse we were meant to be with. When we learn to accept each other and love unconditionally, then we will have a marriage filled with joy and contentment.

Imagine you have been married for a number of years, but you feel like there is something missing in your marriage. Your spouse is a Christian and attends church, but you do not see a need to do the same. Then imagine you meet someone with the name JC, and you start waking up in various places with different husbands you do not know. Yet the one constant is JC. You are unable to figure out what happens to Alena.

Marriage takes work, but more specifically it requires three people to be in the marriage. Those people are obviously the husband and wife, but God and His beloved Son Jesus Christ need to be included in the marriage together.

For what God has joined together no man can put asunder. It takes Alena quite a while to recognize what is going on and why the rings do not fit.

This book provides an excellent look at what can happen without Jesus in a marriage. But it also provides a look at the blessings that can come when we invite Jesus into our marriages as well as our lives.

This work of fiction is definitely worth reading.

What I think you should know:
The Ring Does Not Fit is contemporary Christian by Sunshine Rodgers. It contains Fantasy elements. Alena is unhappily married and finds herself wanting more.

What you might need to know:
The story does contain storylines that include abuse and alcohol use.

What I thought about this book:
I will admit I was a bit skeptical when I read Travis Rodgers’s forward to the book, I mean most husbands think highly of their wife and her work. I was pleasantly surprised that the book really was good. The concept was fun and unique. Alena had lots of wants and dreams for her life, but when given a glimpse of what might have been she found out that it wasn’t quite what she had imagined. Each “husband” and life was vastly different from her own and I found myself caught up in each story to see what Alena’s life could have been if she had made different choices. I was wary of J.C. at first, but Rodgers wrote it in a way that was not disrespectful. The story was enjoyable and was one that has left me thinking since I read it. I look forward to reading more of Rodgers works.

"The Ring Does Not Fit " by Sunshine Rodgers is a book that truly is worth the short time it takes to read it. I recommend this book to everyone that is married, or engaged or wants to be married. It is a story to show that we need to appreciate the things we have and not to take them for granted because they might disappear before we know it.

I love the book and the message that it gives. That message is that we need Jesus before things can be right but I feel like I need to give a word of warning also. The warning is, just because you finally realize that you need Jesus it doesn't automatically mean that everything is going to be the way you want things. yes, life is better in the long run but you have to remember this book is fiction and in fiction most things work out the way the characters like them to.

This is a story about a marriage and something is missing in it, but what it, is what Alena can't figure out.

I really like the different marriages portrayed in this book.

I received a contemporary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

The Ring Does Not Fit by Sunshine Rodgers has a very definite purpose beyond entertainment. Rodgers has written a novella that explores what happens when a busy young wife tires of her seven year marriage. Alena, the wife, is a professional author, keeps house, cooks, does errands, and all the work around the house while her husband, Lee, doesn’t appear to help. He doesn’t help carry in groceries or apparently do any household chores. Lee goes to work and spends the rest of his time on the couch. He is big into church and Bible study. That really put me off Lee. It sounded like his wife needed help and he was oblivious. Alena, in turn, is wrapped up in the busyness and trappings of success.
The aim of the book, to make couples see they need Jesus Christ as the foundation of their relationship, is good. The different scenarios Alena experienced were eye-opening. JC, who is a mystery, assures Alena she is missing more than just Lee.
I certainly concur with the author that both parties in a marriage need Christ. I felt like there were some real issues in the marriage that needed to be dealt with at beginning of book. I am not so sure becoming “ridiculously happy” as the author asserts one should become in Jesus would automatically take all those issues away. I see some big incongruities with a man who is greatly into Bible study and church, but not understanding and helping his wife with her needs.
With some professional editing, this book would shine a little brighter.

Have you ever struggled with feeling trapped in your marriage? That maybe you married the wrong person? Sunshine Rodgers takes you on a journey with Alena as she grapples with the idea of her life being different. Is a different husband really what she needs? Or is she missing something else? An important part to her life puzzle?
While I understood the idea of this book, I was sadly disappointed with it for two reasons. One, the author talks about intimacy in terms that I felt could lead people in the wrong direction with their thoughts. Especially for girls who are not married. Though there was nothing explicit written, there were a few times I felt awkward even reading it.
The second issue I had was giving Christ the initials of J.C. Although I understood that the author was trying to keep His identity unknown (or at least give a subtle innuendo to His indentity) I just felt that short-forming His name felt disrespectful, and that also made me feel a little awkward every time I hit those spots in the book.
Overall, I'm not sure I would recommend the book. I received it as a review copy from Celebrate Lit.

What if you could have everything you wished for? When it happens in The Ring Does Not Fit it doesn’t go exactly as hoped for. Think It’s A Wonderful Life but with a twist.

This was a fun novel to read but not particularly grab me and don’t let go. It wasn’t one that made me feel like I’d miss something if I put the book down. It’s a good book about being content though and not wishing away our life. Too often we wish for everything we don’t have and forget to be thankful for what we do have.
