I read a very short teaser, not even a full chapter but you get a mild sense of the main character, John, aka Tarzan and the betrayal of his adoptive brother. The cliffhanger ending to the teaser was a big one and I'm definitely curious to see where it goes from there.

This isn't really a review since I didn't read much of it and I really wish we'd gotten to at least the part where John meets his Jane. Only knowing half the pairing doesn't leave a lot of room to speculate how things will go or even to form an idea of where you want the story to go.

Overall, the writing was a bit rushed, I don't know if this is part of a series or a new book/stand alone but I did feel a bit lost with all the talk of The Family, their dad being in the hospital (Why?) and the many warring fractions.

I received a free Teaser of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I actually loved this book. It was about John, known as Tarzan, who was betrayed by his family or adopted family, and left for dead. He survived though and tried to start his life anew. He did jobs for people that required his skill of intimidation and inflicting pain to make money now. Then he met Jane, a waitress at a bar, and immediately was attracted to her. He took up for her with some guys in a bar who were part of the Russian bratva, bringing memories of his past back. She kept pushing him away and he was not sure what it would take to get her to finally trust and like hm. This story, although not as spicy as Mountford's previous stories, had me hooked from the very first chapter. There was a lot of violence, mystery, and a little bit of steam as well. I really liked the characters and can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens with John and Jane in the future. I received a review copy of this story from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

This is the first book in the BSSBL Washington DeCampo Crime Famiglia's Rogue Warrior Trilogy. He's Tarzan and looking for his Jane. This is a fast paced mafia romance that's full of danger and fast action. A page turner that grabs your attention right at the beginning. John (Tarzan) was the enforcer for the DeCampo crime family before he was betrayed and left for dead. Years later he started over as a lone wolf and a chance encounter brought him in contact with Jane when he defended her honor. Their chemistry is off the charts and this a steamy version of an old story. A twist or two and lots of drama and danger. I read an advance copy via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to write a review.

L.M. Mountford does stellar job with this sexy retelling of Tarzan and Jane.

Rogue is a dark as it gets! John (Tarzan) was an enforcer for the DeCampo crime family, he was betrayed and left for dead. He moves away to escape those who betrayed him. Now, years later he has started over by doing odd jobs. While his out on a job he finds himself rescuing Jane. John’s old life starts to close in on him. I won't add any spoilers. Just know that it is worth a read. It is part of a trilogy.

This was a pretty good read that I liked. John who was the enforcer for the DeCampo Crime family. He's betrayed and left for dead. Five years later he's in Washington State and meets Jane while he's out on a job and eats at The Beach Whale where Jane works. He ends up rescuing her. This was a good read the chemistry between these two was hot. I loved the whole mafia aspect of this book and the action in it. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

I couldn't put this book down!!

What comes next?? I can't find a follow-up that relates to John and Jane. Noooooo. I need the next book! There was a lot of violence in this but there were some serious laugh out loud moments by things John was thinking/saying (or maybe that's just my wacky humour??)
Thoroughly enjoyed this. I'm off to try and track down the characters in another L M Mountford book now.

Rogue by L.M. Mountford
Rogue Warrior: A Tarzan Retelling #1

Me Tarzan – You Jane? This is a modern romantic suspense set in the world of criminals and mafia types that sees our main character, a dark hero, come to the rescue of a damsel in distress…sort of…and it just might change the lives and futures of not only John and Jane but a significant few others, too.

What I liked:
* John “Tarzan”: orphan stronger and more lethal than he appears at first glance, independent contractor, taken in by the Decampo family in the past, has an backstory I want to know more about, is ethical…sort of, intriguing, seems quite skilled…in more than one thing.
* Jane: mixed-race, strong, attractive, has a father she cares for, spunky, feisty, and not quit as shy and retiring as she first appears to be…would like to know more about her.
* The interaction between John and Jane and wondering what will happen next
* The Russian mafia tie-in – wondering how it will link back to the Prologue
* The dark gritty aspect of the story
* Knowing that John’s world is not one I have ever encountered in real life…though I do enjoy being able to visit vicariously

What I didn’t like:
* Exactly who and what I was meant not to like
* Knowing that there are no doubt evil people in the world just like the ones in this story
* Having to wait for the next installment of the series

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I rad more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Okay so I finally succumb to the world according to the Lord of Lust after seeing his books and deciding it was about time that I delved in. I am both glad and annoyed that I did. Glad because this book was awesome and annoyed because of the cliffhanger ending. Now I need book two, like yesterday!

I love a good dark romance and add a mafia involvement to it and I'm in! Rogue being the retelling of the story of Tarzan and Jane. John was the adopted son of the mafia Don and his enforcer. Betrayed by the family he is now living in hiding, taking jobs to make money.

Jane is a Native American working in a bar/diner on the edge of the reservation. She meet John one day in circumstances that I feel will have a part to play in the following books. Safe to say it is not love on first sight. Not on her part anyway.

As others have said, if you are looking for a full on romance book then this will probably not scratch your itch. However if you are looking for a good mafia book with a hint of romance then this will be right up your alley. You do get your romance but most of the story is setting the scene for the life that John is now leading and the storyline that is to come. Believe me though, when you get to the 'Romance section' Mr Moutford certainly lives up to his title! An extremely well written book that will keep you turning pages just to see what happens next. Don't start reading if you don't have time to finish, because believe me you will not want to put it down.

All I can say is PLEASE can we have Reaper (Book Two) and SOON.

Written in the voice of a Mickey Spillane hard boiled “private dick” adventure, née Mafia-esque thriller; Rogue starts with an introduction to the hero 5 years before the book begins. This allows us to understand where he gets his special fighting skills, which is pretty much all we hear about for the rest of the book. Sure we meet a “girl with a good ass” (Jane of course) and the employer and the guys who get beaten up, but mostly it’s about the fights and the guy they call Tarzan (although you won’t get a clue about that until 77% in).

It’s not a bad story for a good guy/bad guy punch ‘‘em up, but for something billed as any kind of romance, dark, light or otherwise it isn’t. One sex scene doesn’t make a romance, and from an author billed as “The Lord of Lust”; I at least expected um, memorable? Hot? Lusty maybe?? All I can say is it was guy sex, for sure. Women who read it will understand what I mean.

The one and only sex scene was hot as fuck. whew. If only the book had more of that, I would absolutely of loved it.
The book was a bunch of bull shit. One fight scene lasted so long, I skipped a couple pages and it was still happening. Like how many times are they getting knocked out only to immediately get right back up? Like wth? And that was only one fight scene. There were more than one and they all lasted a while.

If his brother betrayed him, shot him in the head and dumped him in the river.... how exactly is he still alive ? Told from the MMC point of view, he also mentioned that he had escaped from Alexi and mentioned about how he left Alexi's men beat up or something like that... but if he escaped from Alexi alive.. he would be out looking for him hard. So obviously something happened that we didn't get clarification on in this book.

Other than that sex scene though, everything else couldn't keep my interest.

Spice 2/5
Humor 0/5
Emotional 0/5
World Building 1/5
Overall 2.5 / 5

This is my first time reading a book by LM Mountford aka The Lord of Lust and it didn't disappoint!

This is a dark Tarzan retelling...if Tarzan was Bratva 😊

Our first introduction to John aka Tarzan is while he is making a name for himself as an 'enforcer' for the DeCampo crime family. That is until they betray him in the worst way and attempt to 'off' him.
Believing him to be dead they go on with their lives, unaware that he is still very much alive and has a new identity. John now under the radar is taking on jobs for other people that need 'problems' sorting out, and then Jane walks in to his life, the raven haired beauty who's honour he defends when some patrons of the bar she works in get a bit handy.

This is a really well written book with great banter, some intense fight scenes and a sprinkling of spice.

This is the first book of a trilogy I believe so it feels like this story focuses more on character development and setting the scene for what's to come? And I know I am not the only one who is ready and waiting for book 2.

Just a warning, this is the first book in the BSSBL Washington DeCampo Crime Famiglia's Rogue Warrior Trilogy, and we get introduced to John "Tarzen" Clayton. John was the most feared enforcer for the DeCampo Famiglia until he was presumably "killed" and escaped to Washington where he tried to live a quiet, normal life. Danger just seems to find him and when he steps in to save Jane, a local waitress in a diner near him from some unruly lads he finds himself on the radar of the men and life he once escaped. Just when Jane realizes that "Tarzen" might just be the man she was hoping to find but never realized she needed, the book ends and their story is to be continued in a yet to publish book. Well the "taste" I got of their story is enough for me to be desperate for the next book in the series to be published.

Part 1 of the Rogue Warrior Trilogy 4*
L.M Mountford is a very talented writer, as many of his previous novels as well as this book testifies. The world of crime and the mafia isn't something I read often but I enjoyed this offering, which was an easy-to-read page-turner about bad boy John, high up in a crime family until his fortunes decline. In a crime family, having the chips stacked against you is no light matter and he needs to do some serious reevaluating of his life. Being betrayed can be a lonely, uncertain existence. Years later, he meets Jane and they have an explosive connection. The author had made this novel simply "un-put-downable". Unfortunately, there is a bit of wait until the second and third parts of this trilogy are out and the reader can have a resolution to this riveting read.

Rogue: A Dark Mafia Romance was indeed full of Drama, Danger, and action and most important in any romance book sexy and steamy. You can feel the chemistry from the book and even when John knows his world is too dangerous for Jane. The characters had me pulled in from the beginning. The author used some great names Tarzan and Jane. Tarzan better known as John Clayton II. I loved how the author made John in charge of a power mafia family from the east coast until he is backstabbed by a trusted person (no spoilers). Meanwhile on the West Coast Washington State we have Jane as an independent, strong women. John defends her when she is harassed by 5 men, Johns deadly and resourceful side comes out and all things change. This is the first book that I have read from author L.M. Mountford and let me tell you I am hooked. I am defiantly going to investigate this author other books. A must-read book.

It's not so easy to bring a fresh angle to such a wide-spread genre, so the approach was unexpected and original.
The writing is better than good, the action plot believable and fast-paced, with just the right amount of humor and spice.

I liked that I could see into John's head and understand the decisions he made throughout. Despite this, there are some well-thought feelings determining his actions and some based not on a whim, but on a longing for family which he refuses to acknowledge, and which surface in his actions but sound like denial in his internal monologue. He acted on those even while not hoping for a future following the coup-de-foudre seeing Jane meant.

I am definitely pleased for picking this book up and really look forward to reading more from this author.

Turk Decampo is the temporary head of his family. Alexi Lebedinsky ordered the death of John Greystoke’s family. Greystoke was the only survivor. He was adopted by the Decampo family and because the enforcer to the family. He and Turk were as close as brothers. Turk ends up betraying Greystoke for the sake of peace for the family and turns him over to Alexi. They shoot him and leave him for dead.

Greystoke survives and ends up in Washington State. He meets a woman named Jane.

Will Greystoke be able to stay anonymous in Washington State since it is far away from New York? Will he eventually get his revenge on the Decampo and Lebedinsky families? Will he walk away from his revenge to be with Jane?

Love the twists and turns. Can’t wait for the next book.

John Clayton is not the Tarzan we are used to reading about. He was the enforcer for a Mafia family, until he was betrayed. Years later he stops 5 bad guys from accosting Jane in a bar. But Jane wants nothing to do with him.
The prologue was dark, sad and leaves the reader with so many questions. How will that tie into the present story? We read early on how far the Russian Maia's reach is. Why was John betrayed? Then John meets his Jane and I was definitely expecting more sizzle. and our author does not disappoint. I really liked the good guys and really disliked the bad guys.
This is a very good story that draws you in with fast paced action, dark and gritty, twists in the plot, revenge, and surprises. A good tale but there is so much more I want to know. As part of a trilogy, I will be looking forward to the next book.

Ohhhh boy…. Rogue is hot!! L.M. Mountford, author, is referred to as the Lord of Lust and that name has definitely apt. Rogue is a short retelling of Tarzan. John also known as Tarzan was betrayed by his family in the worst way possible and has since become an independent enforcer. He has had to be very tough, fast, and lethal. Jane is a waitress trying to make a living. Rogues is all about their meeting and how they were attracted to each other and how John had to convince Jane they belonged together. Rogue was a fast-paced action romance that kept readers guessing. Rogue was the furthest thing from boring. From the first page till the last you will be engaged and wanting to know what is coming next. I recommend Rogue and L.M. Mountford as an author. Happy Reading!

Life of a Dead Man!!

We meet Mr. Greystoke in NY as he is being handed over to the Russians by his “brother”. Five years later, playing dead on the opposite coast; we watch him in Washington state - the Olympic Peninsula. He takes a job from a Mr. Ritter who has three people who owe him money and are in arrears.

A thoughtful treatise, on how his targets will react upon being asked for repayment. How choices will be made. Also interesting interactions at his favorite watering hole - which also includes Russians. A brutal man who uses his intelligence as much or more than his brawn, and who has a soft spot for a certain waitress. Intriguing read.

I absolutely loved this book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were intriguing. This is book one of Rogue A BSSBL Dark Mafia Romance. This story had me captured from the first page, with the action, suspense, danger, violence, pain and the loss of trust that happened. Tarzan real name "John" was an Enforcer for the DeCampo family, he was betrayed by someone he trusted and left for dead. Now that he has started his life on a better footing he ended up saving his Jane. Will she be safe with him or will he have to let her go?.

Our hero is trying to keep a low profile, a good idea since there is a target on his back. But when our heroine needs help, he is all in, whether she wants his help or not.

This is a romantic suspense story with something of a mafia and Tarzan theme. It may sound like an odd combination, but it works. The story is very well written and easy to read with a solid plot that moves along at a good pace The characters are the star of the show, well developed and fun to watch. Along the way we get plenty of action, intrigue and steam. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to more from this author.

Highly recommended.

The exile/escape from the Mafia world is an really intriguing premise that drives the storyline forward. It has impacts on all of the characters and there are so many possibilities of what led to this situation and what will come after. I’m definitely looking forward to more Tarzan and Jane.
I liked the character development and the interactions between them. There were only fleeting glimpses of Jane but those were enough to interest the readers in seeing more of her. She is spirited and strong when you do see her and a strong female lead always makes for a better storyline, in my opinion anyway.
The book ends on a partial cliffhanger, there is clearly much more to learn, so my response is bring on book 2!

This book is a dark mafia retelling of Tarzan and Jane, the main characters' names being John and Jane. John who was an enforcer for a crime family, was betrayed by the people he worked for and left for dead. He moves away to distance himself from the people who tried to kill him. A few years later he is eating in a restaurant and meets Jane, when he intervenes on her behalf when customers are getting rowdy with her. Overall this is a really good romantic suspense story with a lot of emphasis on the suspense and action scenes. There is some spice but I wish there had been a little bit more. The plot is solid and the chemistry between John and Jane is very good. Overall I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.

This story is different than most I've read by L.M. and it was good! The lead in is different from his other stories 'cause you don't get to the sex scene till almost the end where as other times its just after the beginning of the story. The beginning is not what you expect. Here you get the background of John and what leads him to Jane. This is a cliffhanger and that's not in the norm either. L.M. is talented writer and I enjoy his short stories that give you a feel of the characters and the emotions involved, not the mention the sex scenes and the imagination that you don't need when reading.

Very dark gritty story of John (Tarzan) who was the enforcer for the DeCampo Crime family. He's betrayed and left for dead. Five years later he's in Washington State and meets Jane while he's out on a job and eats at The Beach Whale where Jane works. He ends up rescuing her. There is hot chemistry between them. There is lots of action, drama, twists, amazing plot, danger, chemistry, passion and love. Will John and Jane be able to escape the Bratva that's still after "Tarzan?" I couldn't put the story down. Fantastic book.

Rogue is a very sexy retelling of Tarzan. John was one of the most feared enforcers until he trusted the wrong people and that left him for dead. Now years later John has new life away from DeCampo and when he meets Jane his world feels incredible but what he does not know is. His past is coming after him, he wants to forget that he was Tarzan and be the man Jane deserve. But will Jane be able to accept John as Tarzan if need comes a call? This is definitely worth reading. L.M. Mountford does incredible job with this sexy retell of Tarzan and Jane.
