After a difficult start, top Mafia commander in the Welsh Organization, Caden Payne is ready to turn over a new leaf. And with that resolution comes his biggest mission yet—full management of a multibillion dollar private security training base.
The only problem?
In order to get the funding, he’s been paired up with the daughter of the project’s beneficiary—their biggest competitor and rival, Johansen Enterprises.
Circe Johansen isn’t his type. And he’s definitely not interested in her like that, despite having to work closely with her to complete his mission. But the biggest shock isn’t that he falls hard and fast…it’s the secrets she reveals that just might break his heart.
Circe
Good girl, billionaire heiress, Circe Johansen is the perfect daughter. Raised to take over her father’s empire, she’s finally stepping into the role of COO. And with that comes her biggest mission yet.
Unfortunately, it’s alongside tattooed, mafia bad boy, Caden Payne.
She’s determined to come out on top. The only problem—he’s nothing like she thought he would be. And when she gets a taste of what’s beneath his rough exterior, she just keeps coming back for more.
Until she’s not sure anymore whose side she’s on.
Prince of Ink & Scars is a dual POV, semi dark, mafia lite romance. It can be read as a standalone. If read as a trilogy, it should be read as the second book as it contains one spoiler for the first book, Paradise Descent.
This book contains some content that may be triggering.
Raya Morris Edwards is the author of the Sovereign Mountain Series, the Welsh Kings Trilogy, and more! She lives near the mountains, but never close enough. When not writing, she's probably spending time with her family and dogs somewhere in the hills or traveling in the Blue Ridges.
”I like to…think that if this doesn’t work out, part of me will wait for you,”
The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because there were some cringy kinks in the book BUT, asides from that, wow, Caden and Circe stole my heart, I am so in to continue these series. Weirdly enough I received the arc for the second book without having read the first one and I am downloading asap.
Circe (MFC) is assigned a project to prove herself with her father’s company, as part of said project she will have a partner, Caden (MMC). As they work together feelings develop and although there’s not much tension as the action starts pretty early in the book, the banter maintained all throughout is really good.
Can’t recommend enough!!! So impressed.

* ARC provided by Love Notes PR in exchange for an honest review *
I just finished my second book by Raya Morris Edwards, and wow, what a ride! While I wasn't totally in love with “Sovereign,” I couldn't put down “Prince of Ink and Scars.” This semi-dark, enemies-to-lovers romance, set in the world of a Welsh crime organization (though they run a pretty clean operation in this book), was absolutely gripping.
The story follows Caden Payne, a top Mafia commander, and Circe Johansen, a billionaire heiress and COO of her father's company. They’re forced to work together on a high-stakes security training project, despite their initial animosity and contrasting backgrounds. As they team up, secrets and intense emotions come to the surface, challenging their beliefs and loyalty.
What really stood out to me was Caden “I salute your stamina” Payne and his backstory. I was deeply moved by his struggles with mental health issues. Beneath his tough exterior is a heartbroken boy who longs to be loved and seen. The book does a fantastic job of portraying OCD and ADHD realistically, showing what they can look like in everyday life. Caden doesn't think he deserves good things, and watching him grow, learn his worth, and fight for happiness added great depth to his character.
Circe, the female lead, is remarkable and so relatable. She’s a strong businesswoman in a male-dominated world, driven by her need to succeed and earn her father’s approval. She is the epitome of a well-mannered, hard-working, distant, perfectionist Ice Queen. Yet, she has a vulnerable side she hesitates to show, but Caden helps her embrace it. I loved how their relationship allowed Circe to understand her worth and grow as a person. Unlike many stories where the male lead swoops in to save the day, here Caden supports Circe’s development and gives her the space to maintain her agency and grow on her own terms, rather than just being a modern damsel in corporate-world-distress, who needs rescuing by the brooding alpha male.
Both main characters are strong, loyal, thoughtful, and very likable. Their chemistry was electric.
However, there were a few hiccups that kept me from giving this book five stars. The business side of their relationship, along with the enemy dynamic, started with great banter and set the foundation for the main family rivalry plot line, but somehow it got overshadowed by the smut (I wish the first assignment were used for more banter and sizzling chemistry while still focusing on the competition, but that's a personal preference). While the steamy scenes were top-notch (!), the also pushed the suspense and angst that could have derived from the forbidden relationship aspect to the backend. This made the plot twist and its aftermath feel a tad rushed, and the balance between character-driven and plot-driven elements seemed off. The “kingmaker epiphany” in Caden's story was great in concept, but lost momentum due to the hasty framework it was set in. I wish Raya had used a bit more space to highlight this epiphany and the inner monologue of Caden (loved the interaction with Maelon though!). I also wished the sessions with Gretchen were more nuanced and delved deeper into Caden's problems, but that might just be a me issue here!
Overall, if you’re looking for a fast-paced, workplace/light-mafia romance with lots of spice, this book is for you. It helps to read book one for some context, but Prince of Ink and Scars can be enjoyed as a standalone too. Enjoy the ride, I sure did!
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving the ARC didn't affect my opinion of the book.
Prince of Ink and Scars by Raya Morris Edwards is a thrilling mix of suspense, action, and spice. From the beginning, I was hooked. Circe and Caden's dynamic is intense- Circe is witty and independent, while Caden is dark and stubborn, making their chemistry explosive 🧨
The blend of semi-dark mafia romance with fantasy elements keeps things fresh and exciting. The chemistry between Circe and Caden is also so STRONG!!!
If you want a fast-paced, spicy read with detailed smut and complex characters, this book is for you. Be prepared to fall for Caden's tough yet golden-hearted character and root for Circe's badass determination😮💨

The second book in The Welsh Kings trilogy Prince of Ink & Scars by Raya Morris Edwards will be released May 23rd. This book can be read as stand alone.
First of all, before you start with the book, be sure to check out the TWs, because your mental health always comes first.
I’m still flushed by reading this book. It was so intense … you just get hot as hell by all the smutty scenes, that you don’t recognise how fast the pages turn. From the beginning there is this strong tension between the MCs, Caden the son of the Welsh Mafia king and Circe the heir of the Johansen Enterprise. Along all the spice is a story about trust, bad experiences, the attempt to fulfill all the expectations, as well as the hidden purposes by the older generation which leaves you clenching your jaw.
If you are searching for a fast paced story with all the detailed smut, get this book and start to get comfy. But be careful or Caden will be your next bookboyfriend who loves to eat you.
Quotes: She'd tasted like pure desire, like being starving and eating my fill at the same time.
He was a fucking psycho. Heart hammering, I attempted to speak, but my mouth was dust dry.
She swallowed, slender throat bobbing. God, wanted to get my teeth on that. Bruise up her perfect skin, maybe hold the soft flesh between her neck and shoulder with my teeth while I fucked her from behind.
He bottomed out, and my eyes rolled back. "Fuck, that's a good girl," he said, voice rasping. "Oh God," | whimpered.
"Fuck, you're so big," she panted. "Inside me. Now." The corners of my mouth jerked up. "Yes, ma'am."
My brain went beautifully quiet. It never went quiet like this—it was always loud and messy and chaotic. But when she cried out my name, all the static and bullshit turned off like a light switch.
ARC review. If you love a secret romance with lots of sneaking around, then this is for you. Favorite Quote: "I'll trade you an orgasm for a sandwich" Circe and Caden meet for the first time at a bar and spend the night together, she knows exactly who he is but he doesn't know her. You'd think that'd give her the upper hand, but Caden takes it back and then some. With a multimillion-dollar deal on the line, they can't get distracted, but they can't keep their hands off each other.
They are both dealing with tough family dynamics, Circe’s mom died in childbirth and her dad is overprotective and power hungry, Caden was raised by his drug-addicted mom and abusive stepdad, met his biological father as an adult and is trying to trust their relationship. Circe has been molded by her father to take over the family business and doesn’t know what she actually wants in life, Caden has just been going through the motions without a clear path forward and their connection is the perfect catalyst for change. I really loved how their relationship started from lust and rivalry, developed into friendship, and ultimately life changing love and loyalty. The spice in this is so good, they are very compatible, Caden wields power, Circe craves letting go (wish we’d had more Daddy Caden though). I love that he destroys her then cleans her up and feeds her each time.
I forgot this is book two in a series, it can read as stand alone but it really made me want to read book one.
*Spoilers below* * * * * * * * * * When Circe decides to come clean and tell Caden about her father’s plans I really thought the story would go in the explosive breakup direction but was so pleasantly surprised that Caden chooses to double down on her and their relationship. He immediately puts her under his protection and makes sure she’s safe while he goes and solves the problem. It’s so nice to have a reversal of expectation there. The spice in her office was soooo good, kind of wish they’d had more office shenanigans. Also, Delaney and her dad! No!! I literally said EW out loud to myself, did not see that coming.
This book is a dual POV, semi dark, rivals to lovers, forced proximity and mafia romance. Caden is the Welsh mafia Prince and Circe is the good girl heiress. There can’t be any world where they end up together..right?! 🤔
I loved the mental health rep in this book for Caden’s character. He is diagnosed with ADHD and OCD and throughout the book learns what this means for him and how to cope with them both.
I feel like it’s rare that an author writes about a man struggling with mental health issues. I appreciate that Edward’s gave us a MMC that is undoubtedly strong, but is figuring out how he needs to handle his day to day life with this diagnosis.
Circe’s character felt just as complex. She’s being molded into this young COO by her father, but it’s not really what she wants. Her father has a certain idea of how he wants Circe’s life to look. How to dress, how to run his company, who to date and marry. Caden is everything she can’t have, but can’t resist either.
Once she realizes that her father has betrayed her in more ways than one (no spoilers), it just confirms that it’s time for her to take control of her own life and decide if it’s worth giving up everything she’s ever known for the man she loves. 🫣
Caden and Circe are drawn together! These two are explosive from the start and the spice was certainly spicing in this book. 🔥💣 I found myself blushing several times with some of the dirty things Caden says to Circe! 🤭🤭🤭 If you are looking for a book where the MMC is head over heels for his woman, this is it! 🔥❤️🫠😮💨
I really loved this book and want to thank @rayamorrisedwards and @lovenotes.pr for the opportunity to read this ARC! Prince of Ink & Scars is out now! Download it today! 🖤🦋
Okay so, I expected a lot and yeahh it did not deliver...
We follow Circe who is ultimately the cliche of the daddy's girl, rich, spoiled and a people pleaser. Her mission is to work with someone from one of the biggest competitor of her dad's company, Caden. He is everything she is not, grew up with a troubled family and trying to redeem himself, he finds himself in something he didn't see coming.
Until here the plot as well as the blurb was really appealing and then I read the book and it was not as appealing as it seemed.
Circe and Caden are described during most of the book by their upbringing and basically nothing else. He had a rough childhood and she did not. This is reminded almost every chapter. Circe is trying to be the perfect daughter to a father who is not that nice whereas Caden is trying to change for the better. This is a majority of the plot. The rest of the plot is basically sex or to be more precise the sexual tension between them.
They seem to fall in love out of nowhere after really talking to each other like five minutes. They both say that the other changed each others world somehow. But it's just poorly explained. The emotional connection is clearly lacking and replaced by sexual tension.
Which brings me to writing of the book, it is mid to say the least. We switch form one day to another within a line, some part don't even make sense considering the scene or the fact that some characters don't even know each other. Smut is a HUGE part of the book, and I do love smut but to a certain extent, here it feels like it's here to fill in the non-existent emotional connection.
To resume it all, I finish this book not without struggle. A lot of the time I got annoyed at the writing or the fact that sex seems to be the only connection between the two characters, and the rest I got bored or confused.
It could have been an amazing book, but unfortunately the plot is not developed enough for that to be the case.
Genre/Trope: Welsh Mafia Romance Book Type: Interconnected Standalone Book Length: Novel POV: Alternating Dual Setting: Providence, Rhode Island Male MC: Caden Payne is the unrecognized son of Merrick Llwyd (from Paradise Descent). He grew up not knowing his father until he reached adulthood and he suffered through a very difficult childhood full of violence and pain and made some terrible choices as a result. He is now the top Mafia commander in the Welsh Organization. Caden is 30 and has black hair and blue eyes. Female MC: Circe Johansen is the heiress to a very wealthy businessman and works at her father’s company as the COO. Her life is very manicured, structured and routine and she strives to be the best daughter she can to her loving but overprotective father. Circe is 25 and has long dark hair and brown eyes. Endearment: Butterfly Spice Level: High Frequency of Spice: High Angst Level: Low Cliffhanger: No My Review: I really enjoyed this story. I loved Caden and Circe’s dynamic; they were both so strong but sweet with each other and had a ton of chemistry. Their romance was very spicy and sometimes naughty but very fun and exciting too. I also loved how much each of them grew individually and how they fought for each other. I can’t wait to see who the next book in this series will be about.
Raya Morris Edwards certainly knows how to write a good mafia romance with allllll the spice. Book 2 of the Welsh Kings series follows good girl heiress, Circe and mafia bad boy Caden in their tumultuous journey navigating as business rivals/co-workers and lovers.
Caden absolutely shattered my heart and mended it all over again and I found myself shouting at the pages at times. I just wanted him to have his HEA. Under that hard wired exterior there is a golden retriever waiting to be loved 🥹 Circe had me sweating and panicking that she was going to put her father’s wishes before her own happiness but how could you let Caden go?? Not possible. I loved the storyline of Circe’s headspace and the battle of head and heart throughout the book. She’s a badass and I love it. 👑
If you are after a fast paced, workplace, slightly forbidden relationship with the right amount of spice then this is your next read. I would recommend reading book 1 to have some context going into Caden and Circe’s story but it can be read as standalone also.

*ARC* Dangerous prince/Dolled heiress It was definitely time for a mafia read. One of the main things I really enjoyed was that there was no detailed bloodshed spoken about in the book. I know that this world came with a lot of violence, but I am glad the author did not focus on it. You follow billionaire heiress and the son of the Welsh Brenin, who are assigned to work together on a project. But then they met, and there was a connection they couldn't deny. She didn't want to disappoint her dad, and he was too broken to let anyone in. The book showed vulnerability in such a deeper level when it came to mental health. They supported one another to come out of their shells. Once they gave in to their connection, there was no one that could separate them. There are definitely a lot of twisted relationships, but it shapes each character into who they become. Absolutely loved their story!
This was pretty mid for me, I enjoyed it but kind of felt bored halfway through. This was pretty bingeable and I finished it in one day, I adored the fmc and admired her badass vibes. I loved Sovereign tho(not surprised since I love cowboy romances)
raya. constantly raising the bar for us all. you’ve never failed me and i should’ve known this book would hit idk why i waited so long to pick it up; need another mafia series NOWWWWW
This book was so good. I love when it's rivals to lovers made me read it so fast. I love the main characters. And the spicy omg so spicy. Amazing story and amazing author
I think this is the first time since my frontal lobe developed that a FMC from a mafia book has not made me want to claw my eyes out and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to RME for this.
Caden: I knew his book was going to be angsty and good since the first time I laid eyes on him in Merrick's book. You don't understand how much I adored that he was so mature about other people's feelings despite having low self worth. I love how he did not make a big deal out Circe's betrayal and immediately went into protector/saviour mode. His (hidden) love for his father and respect for Carla is honestly admirable. I could see slowly how his character developed as the book continued and he became a healthier version of himself.
Circe: Circe is my queen. She is the epitome of girl boss and there wasn't a single moment where I did not love her. She is so incredibly strong and mature beyond her years. I love how she slowly let loose around Caden. I agree they may not seem compatible to others but to me those two suited each other perfectly. As they say, opposites attract. I love how she was protective of Caden in whatever way she knew how and how she went against her father because her morals were so strong. One thing that genuinely baffled me was how forgiving she was towards Delaney because let me tell you I would have never spoken to one of my closest friends ever again if I knew they were sleeping with my father behind my back for a year and pretending to be fake to my face. Same goes for my father. Like you got more than 3 million people in Wales and you can't find someone else? They should both go and choke. The fact that she didn't even call or text after Circe caught them really left me flabbergasted because how are you going to fall to your knees sobbing like a victim after doing the horizontal tango with your best friend's father and have the audacity to be radio silent? I get they were both single and she's a grown woman but still. It irked me so bad. Circe was too forgiving but tbh I think she realised she cba with her two faced friend and power hungry father. And good for her, she's got sweet Emmy (who she really needs to call back) and now Carla as well. Delaney and her father can both hop on legos.
Welsh Kings series have such a soft spot in my heart, I fell in love with Merrick since he was a side character and that love has only grown the more I got to know him in his own book and then his son's book. I loved his presence in this book and while I know it is not possible I wish I could have seen more of a heart to heart between Caden and Merrick. I wanted Caden to confide about his past with Merrick but the book left me in good hopes that at least their relationship is on a mend. It was also good seeing Carla doing well. She came across as more childish in this book than her own but not annoyingly so - she can be very smart (as seen from her discussion with Circe!).
I really want to know who the third book will be about (God pls let it be Gretchen). Yale? If so I hope we don't get much of his fake ass sister's cameo. But idk Yale. He seems too messy with his comments. Good thing is that there are other books by the author I can read in the meantime. I feel like this was a rant more than a review but I had to. To talk about Circe and Merrick...

This is the second book in The Weldish Kings Trilogy. I recommend reading the first book because the first couple is mentioned in this book.
Review I recommend this book is you love book by Ana Huang with a mix of Neva Altaj.
The way I’m so freaking in love with this book isn’t even funny! I couldn’t put it down at all! I binged this book day and night. Raya is now my new auto buy author and I’m going to literally budge her books. Her writing is absolutely incredible!
This book is very character driven which I’m not always a big fan of but I get so invested I didn’t even care. There is still plot trust and believe and lots of crazy happens with lots of emotion. But in the end I felt so connected to these characters and I connected with side characters and seriously NEED there stories to!
Circe is a good girl, and does everything this can to do right by her father. I absolutely loved her character, she was such a bad b but was also so sweet at the same time. And was such a boss b. I really connected to her and related to her so much. She’s one of my favorite FMC’s I think I’ve ever read.
Caden is a bad boy with a bad past, which was absolutely terrible but I loved thag in the end he grew and became a better person for himself and Circe. I also related to him so much and as someone who had OCD I cried reading this. I related to him in a way i don’t think I ever have in a book. And his past absolutely broke me he deserved so much better. But listen I ate up how OBSESSED this man was with Circe I ATE IT UP! This man was down bad.
I loved that in the end they never stopped fighting for each other. And they both learned to love.
Holy moly, Prince of Ink and Scars by Raya Morris Edwards was a rollercoaster ride of suspense, action, twists and turns, and spice. I was pulled into this book from the beginning and couldn't put it down until I reached the end. I was sad when this book ended; I could have kept reading about Circe and Caden. They were like oil and water, but they couldn't help their attraction to each other. I loved the push and pull they put each other through while reading this book. Circe was witty and independent. Caden was stubborn, disciplined, and determined to prove himself worthy. I thought the storyline was original and page-turning. The characters were complex, had the Lady and the Tramp feel to the story, and the chemistry was off-the-charts hot. This book is the second in the Welsh Kings trilogy and can be read as a standalone. I am very excited to go back and read the first book to get the full effect of this world the author created. This book is a semi-dark mafia romance.
Circe was a princess and wanted to prove her worth to her father. I loved her independence, determination, and wit. She was strong and knew what she wanted in life, or so she thought. Caden was dark and broody. He was stubborn, devoted, and loyal. I enjoyed the banter between Circe and Caden. I was laughing and crying throughout this book. Their chemistry was undeniable from their first interaction. They were a powder keg just waiting to go off, and when it did, it was epic. I loved the journeys they both took to get to where they needed and wanted to be. Such a beautiful love story of a princess and a general of the mafia. -By Brooke
The connection and tension from the very beginning in this book had me wanting more, every time Circe and Caden found each other I was streaking with joy because I needed to know what was going to happen between them next. I love how Raya describes them because it made me want to jump in the book and eat Caden as well ass Circe right up. The attraction between them was perfect !!! I could not and refused to put this book down until the end !! 💕 The spice was intense, made me stop and gather myself in certain scenes because damn they were good. LOVE IT !!!!! 😍
I love how Caden and Circe were very relatable and similar to one another in many different ways. There motivation to be the best and work hard for what they got was the best for me because it made them more realistic to me. I got really attached to them because it felt like they were both real. I was touched with how Caden struggles with mental issues and fought to overcome his demons, I loved how Circe was fighting for power and striving to be seen in a world that was dominated by men. So many little things made me fall in love with these two characters. 💜 I love how they help each other grow and become nothing but power 🖤 Oh and the his nickname for her “butterfly” 🦋🥹 and her obsession with the color “mauve” also my favorite !!!
RAYA YOU KILLED IT BABE !!!!! 🥲😎💗🫶🏼
FAVORITE QUOTE: “She’s tasted like pure desire, like being starving and eating my full at the same time” - Caden 🤤
Overall Rating 2.5/5 Spice Meter 3/5 In this second book of the Welsh Kings Series, Raya Edward Morris gives us Caden and Circe’s story, where the Mafia Prince meets the Business Princess. Their worlds collide, and their chemistry is electric. When an opportunity to double cross presents itself their relationship is tested – can it survive the outside forces that want to tear them apart?
Tropes: He Falls First Mafia Romance Touch Her and D/e Enemies to Lovers Dual POV Billionaire Heiress
Characters: Caden: Mafia Prince with a hidden identity who struggles with addiction and self-harm/self-sabotage. He’s pulled himself out of his addiction, and is trying to do his best to improve himself. He is determined to do his best, and plans to win the deal for his mafia father.
Circe: Business Princess, billionaire heiress, and prissy to the core. She wants to do everything she can to impress her father, who has never seen her as anything by a pawn to earn business. When given the opportunity to be a COO, Circe, (who loves control) is determined to win and do better than the mafia king she’s paired with (Caden).
Some Highlights: - This is the second in a series, and it does function as a standalone, but I know there were context clues I missed because I hadn’t read the first book.
- This was about 100 pages too long. That’s not to say I didn’t like it, but I found myself skipping the adult playtime scenes because it didn’t move the story along. They were good scenes, but eventually became boring. I wanted more plot.
- I saw a lot of myself in Circe – her need for control, her enjoyment of wearing pink, etc. But the author did a bit too much to convince us how tightly wound she is. Again, I found myself skipping things because it had already been covered.
- This was a book I probably would have DNF’d if hadn’t been granted an ARC. It was too slow, and (and I can’t believe I’m saying this!), there were too many adult playtime scenes. I may have enjoyed it had I read the first book, but I cannot say I’ll be reading the next one.
📖: Just like Paradise Descent, I LOVED this book! Merrick & Clara made a few appearances which made my heart so happy! But diving into Caden's world was more than I could've ever asked for and I was instantly routing for Circe & Caden! 🖤 Raya always has a way of getting right to the good stuff & this book was no exception! I really appreciated the fact that there's no crazy 3rd act breakup 🙌🏼 which made this book even more of an easy that was VERY enjoyable! I will also say that although this review is short & sweet, it's only because I don't want to spoil this book for you! I highly recommend it and hope you take the time to read it!
Tropes: 💜 Rivals to Lovers 💜 Reformed F*ck Boy 💜 Breeding K!nk (but no babies) 💜 Tatted Mafia Boy 💜 Good Girl Heiress 💜 Forced Proximity
This is an interconnected standalone in the Welsh Kings Trilogy. Although you don't have to read Paradise Descent first, I would highly recommend it! I promise you won't regret this read! 💋
Not normally into mafia romances but this one was really good and pretty interesting.
Caden has a horrible past and is actively seeking to fix not just his life but himself. Idk about ya, but I love a man who is open to bettering his mental health. He's tatted and protective, just the way I like 'em. Caden's got his issues and some kinks that I'm not particularly fond of but it wasn't overwhelming so the spice was still spicy. His relationship with Merrick is cute to see grow and I enjoyed that he had a pretty good relationship with Claire as well considering their ages and the connections.
Circe is the hardworking heir to Johansen Enterprises and has been the picture perfect partner for her father's business. When her father's deception's come to light, everything she thought she knew, thought she wanted comes into question. Circe deserves her flowers for not throwing something, or flipping out on folks cause this woman's world turned upside down in less than a week and she handled it with grace.
What was supposed to be a one night stand with a stranger ends up a workplace Romance between family rivals, alla Romeo & Juliet.
The turns this book took was interesting to say the least but the story overall was really great. Spice is picante if you, like me, are into that kinda thing.
✨ I received this book as an ARC for my honest review✨
Rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
White I forgot this is book two in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone and it made me really want to read book one! This book has secret romance with a lot of sneaking around and spicy off the charts!
Circe and Caden first meet at a bar where sparks fly and they have a night of passion, but there's a twist—she recognizes him, while he remains oblivious to her true identity. Despite this seeming a disadvantage, Caden quickly levels the playing field and then some. While they do have business together the line is blurred with pleasure taking the driver's seat on more than one occasion.
Now, let's talk about their messed-up family situations. Circe's dealing with a controlling dad and the tragedy of losing her mom. And Caden? He's got a whole mess of issues from his past, with a mom hooked on drugs and a stepdad straight out of a horror flick. But here's the twist: their messed-up backgrounds bring them closer together, sparking some serious personal growth.
What really gets me is how their relationship evolves from lust and competition to a solid friendship, and then into this deep, life-changing love and loyalty. The chemistry between them? It's electric, with Caden's powerful presence balancing out Circe's need for freedom. And sure, their romance is spicy, but it's those sweet moments of care and support that hit you right in the feels.
My first read from this author. It's an ennemies-to-lovers where we meet Circe and Caden. They are both forced to work together to help close a business deal for their respective fathers. I loved that in this book, Caden, the MMC deal with mental health issues and struggles with accepting therapy. I loved that OCD and ADHD were talked about and that it wasn't the stereotypes, it was what it could look like in the real daily life of someone dealing with that. Also, Caden doesn't think he deserves good things and seeing him grow in the book, learning his worth and fighting for what makes him happy was so sweet. Circe is strong, yet she has a vulnerable side that she struggles to show and accept until she lets Caden in. She open her wings slowly while being with Caden and he helps her understand better her worth and that was really sweet. She did the sale for him and I also reslly enjoyed that. Both of the MC are strong, loyal, thoughtful and I loves that. They were equals and I enjoyed that through the book! I just love it when an author rep important subjects that aren't talked about enough and when the characters aren't discriminate because of that and this was really well done in this book.
I would recommand reading all the trigger warnings prior to reading the book since few subjects are talked about in this book.

When i received this ARC, I knew I had to know the whole story. So, I read Paradise Descent (Welsh Kings book #1) which was insanely good and I read it within a day.
This book was no different. It gave insight to how Caden works (I really recommend reading the first book too), he's a complex character who is incredibly self aware and I honestly love that the men in this series are, self aware.
We then meet Circe (once you read this book, you'll understand the importance of her name). A billionaire heiress who knows how her day to day life works, its routine, until she meets Caden (the Right Hand to the Welsh Brenin).
This book was incredibly enjoyable to read, a great mix of storyline to smut and I love that my home country has some representation in this genre🤭.
The traditions for the Welsh Mafia in this book are intriguing and I love how much they value their women, made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Dont get me wrong, they're still criminals, it's a Mafia however, theyre loveable criminals 😅.
If you enjoyed: Hooked, Twisted Lies, Undeniable & Paradise Descent (Welsh Kings book #1) get your teeth into this series, its fab!
i haven’t read the first book in the series and while it doesn’t matter too much as a standalone, i’ll definitely be going back to reading the first book and reading the series in full because i loved this book! the characters, their development, their storyline and backstory were all incredible! both lead characters had great stories and were very strong and determined!
caden is a mafia commander who has been given his biggest task yet and circe is the coo of her father’s company and turns out they’ve been teamed up together to make sure the deal between the two companies doesn’t fail! both are very determined to not fail at this task that is the biggest in their life!
i love when the main characters have great chemistry and caden and circe definitely had that!
the steamy parts were really well written and had a lot of angst and build up which i loved! overall, this was a fantastic read and if you’re looking for a mafia romance that isn’t too dark, with a lot of spice and great characters then you’ll for sure enjoy this book!

🌸 semi dark romance 🌸 enemies to lovers 🌸 mafia romance 🌸 rivals to lovers 🌸 forced proximity 🌸 touch her & die
It's the second book in The Welsh Kings trilogy. It is a great book. I'm still turned on by reading this book. It was hot and intense. The grumpyness burst thousands of butterflies in my stomach. There is a strong tension between the main characters. It is a well fast paced written book. The story captures all the dimensions of trust and love. There are some elements of fantasy also which nowadays im into, so that's why this book captures my heart. The bond between Circe & Caden is also strong. Smuts are so detailed that I feel flustered all over. Get ready to fall for Caden he might be your next love 😽. Circe is a strong business woman and I like when fmc are strong and not shown weak. Caden supporting Circe is what I adored the most. The chemistry was electric and that held the book tight.
Prince of Ink and Scars is a dual POV following a COO of a billionaire empire and a Welsh Mafia soldier.
Circe Johansen, daughter of a billionaire, is assigned the biggest project of her career, and finally given the chance to prove her worth to her father. However, there’s one catch. She has to work alongside Caden Payne, a man she hates, to seal the deal.
This book follows the exploration of their forbidden relationship, emotional intensity, and betrayal.
Characters: I found both characters to be very likeable. Caden’s vulnerability surrounding his mental health was beautiful and raw. I loved how Circe explored her freedom, finding out who she is besides her father’s daughter.
Their relationship felt natural and interconnected through each POV.
Plot: This is a relatively fast-paced book. Scenes did not linger and I felt that we moved through the story at the pace it required.
That being said, I do feel this could’ve been shorter. At around 300 pages, the ends had been tied up, I don’t think it needed the extra 80 pages.
Thank you to Love Notes PR for the eARC copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was the first book I’ve read by Raya Morris Edwards and I really enjoyed it! I did not realize this was the second book in a series so I read it as a standalone but I was still able to follow along. This book was so good though so I will be going back to read the first book!
I really enjoyed the enemies to lovers aspect of this book! Caden is a top Mafia commander and Circe is a billionaire heiress of her father’s company. They both should stay away from each other but they cannot deny their attraction to each other. Caden is such a complex character and I love watching him grow throughout the story. And I loved that he acts different towards Circe than he does to the rest of the world. I loved Circe! It has been a while since I’ve read a good strong FMC. Both Caden and Circe had great character development. The spice is so good! They have the best chemistry and it was easy to feel the connection and compatibility between them!
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
🖤 Mafia romance 🖤 Age gap 🖤 Forbidden romance 🖤 Rivals to lovers 🖤 Forced proximity
Thank you to the author and Love Notes PR for the arc!
Caden was everything a dark MMC should be: tattooed, muscled, dark hair, tortured past, soldier in Welsh Mafia
Circe was the epitome of the Good Girl FMC: Daddy’s girl, educated, corporate heiress.
A joint project between their rival organizations brings them together, with both of them eager to prove themselves. BUT this is after they have a hook-up after meeting at a bar. The chemistry is instant and HOT, and soon feelings are involved which means choices need to be made.
Caden’s family backstory is traumatic and something he’s still working through, but I liked his father Merrick, how their relationship played out, and how supportive he was. I really liked how this father/son dynamic was portrayed.
There was a lot of spice but the plot was just as good. The choices, the fears, the wondering how it would all play out…it kept me hooked.
