Blood and Magic #4

Blood & Bones

Rate this book
My whole world has just exploded. I'm doing a jaunty quick-step on the edge of total insanity, battling shock, exhaustion, crisis fatigue, and some sort of festering dark power that threatens to erupt out of me every time I get a little stressed. At least now I know where this genocidal rage comes from. Turns out, it's hereditary.

To make things worse, as Enforcer of the city, I now have to organize a Summit of the Treaty, a sort of formal conclave for the supernatural creatures of the world. We've got some serious problems to sort out, and gathering together the Shifter Kings and Queens, the High Priestesses, and the Vampire Monarchy all in one place is bound to give anyone a headache. What are the chances I can get them all to agree on a course of action when they're only worried about their own kind?

Blood & Bones is book four in Blood and Magic, the fun, fast-paced urban fantasy series.

Prue is the DC human enforcer and due to the fae representative disappearing in the last book causing a problem with the Treaty she has to call for a Conclave to fix it.
All of the incoming “heads of state” accompanied by their local enforcers are going to be trouble. They have no belief in her, are not willing to work together and are definitely biased against each other. Some will only go strictly by the rules, others want to manipulate them and others want to ignore them. It’s a mess and Prue has to figure it all out.
There is a lot happening in this book and some of the characters are just so nasty while others are fantastic.
There are surprises, some good, some bad but all necessary for the story to advance. Each book ends on a mini cliffhanger which would annoy me if I didn’t have the next book.
This series is so good! I’m loving the characters (Max, Cindy and Daniel are my favourites), the magic, the story, the humour, everything.
I find them quick, easy enjoyable reading

Maybe I’m getting through the series too quickly, and the repetitions are being more irksome, but I’m losing a few likes here while the world is building meaningfully… but the portrayal of the idiotic misogynistic men is getting to me. Yes there are absolutely blatant sexism in the world, and Prue overcoming the general expectations that she wasn’t suitable or qualified for the role is a big theme in the story for her rise up against, but the other Enforcers were just painful and overly simplistic and evil; especially for the “good guys” in their world.
Max and Prue are through the overly long slow burn and are just nicely together as they’ve been trying to be from the outset, and the ridiculously evil sister has gone down quite the random, if interesting, path, and there’s a nice mix of lots of other characters from the other stories coming in here, but it’s not as gripping as the other storylines…

I just love this series so far.
It's an emotional buffet with angst, frustration, self-doubt, addiction suicidal thoughts, hangry and love. Steam but no smut, a shame, would of enjoyed getting some details on what Max can do with all that alpha kindness.
This book still has a ton of action, and centres around the politics of supernatural factions who hold the agreement together.
Things never go to plan, but the twists in this book I didn't see coming. Thrown off by everything else going on and just not seeing the twists coming, is a sign of great book and series.
Looking forward to more

4 stars because I like Prue and the characters and the series, but really this should get a 3.5. With pressure amping up in Prue’s world, there are lots of characters to introduce and lots of locations to describe. I feel like the quirky, special quality that Prue has that makes her part of her community was a little absent. I missed the colorful characters in her neighborhood.

The action and suspense were good, the pace pretty good, and the descriptions weren’t over the top, but I felt like several characters were sidelined and that there wasn’t time built in for character development for Prue. The previous books had good character development for her but she sort of just coasted through this one more, in my opinion.

All said, I still liked it and look forward to the next one!

WHAT THE FECK JUST HAPPENED! Oh my god I'm literally picking up my jaw from the floor from this installment. Again Lauretta managed to blindside me with some wicked twists that I didn't see coming, I did see a couple but she hit it outta the park with the others. I'm actually still a little shocked if I'm honest but loving it.

Prue's life is getting more complicated. As the enforcer of DC she is forced to call a Conclave of the Treaty after the fae diplomat got himself banned from the mortal realm and to discuss the problems they all face. Unfortunately for Prue trying to get the leaders of the supernatural to agree on anything is proving difficult, especially when the only thing they want to do is protect their own kind.

I still adore the fact that Prue is a sassy kick ass girl but her growth in this book made me love her more. Instead of taking everything upon her shoulders by herself, she is starting to lean on her friends and ask them for help, which is a great thing to see. She's still having to prove to everyone outside her inner circle she's got what it takes and she does it with her usual brand of snarkiness.

Max I'm totally in love with, he continues to be Prue's rock and source of comfort when things get tough which literally makes me melt. And he had me in fits of giggles when he knew how to stop a literal fight with Prue by going and getting her food. My kinda guy.

Salozar is definitely growing on me as he has his own brand of humour which is quite endearing, and the fact he's still helping Prue even though he's banned from the mortal world has made me warm up to him. I also feel a little sorry for him as he has fallen for Prue but her heart belongs to Max, which I'm rooting for all the way.

And I didn't think that Isobel could infuriate me anymore than she already does, boy I was wrong. I'm hoping that she gets what she deserves and then some. Yep still wanna punch her...

I have to say these books get better and better as they go along and if I'm honest is one of my favourite series to date. So if you haven't already read these I suggest you do. I'm off to start book 5 and see what's in store next. 😁

I’m still struggling with the rating on the books in this series because while I am completely ensnared by the story, world building , characters, and magic system, the delivery is disrupting the overall vibe and enjoyment.

Does Prue feel pain or not? There have been several times throughout the series where Prue says out loud or thinks to herself that something hurt or caused her pain. Yet when her twin sisters explain why they didn’t do more to shelter Prue from Isobel they said they didn’t think it was that bad for her because Prue couldn’t feel pain. I get authors may lose track along the way if it was stated once or twice or not even addressed, but the author has been quite consistent in having Prue express pain, to then have the twins say that as an excuse? And Prue didn’t even respond to it.

Also, I feel like the author fell victim to moving is through each scene so quickly she didn’t take time to explain Prue doing things the author said Prue did. There was seemingly no way Prue could have contacted this person or arranged that with the way the scenes progressed. I would really like the author to be a bit more intentional or aware that when we’re being told Prue took action when there is no way she could have done so because she was wrangling a gnome or something, it interrupts the narrative, at least for me.

Conclave nightmare!

Because Salozar warns Bones she is able to save her mother from the Beasts soldiers. Max & Bones' relationship is put to the test when the shifter king brings Max a gift. A very beautiful girl to be his wife. If you think Max got jealous over Tanner smiling at Bones wait till you see what Bones does to Max after this girl kisses Max on the cheek. Remind me to always have food on hand for Bones. You'll understand that joke later. Isobel gets sentenced to learning magic. That seems like a reward not punishment! Apparently she never stopped studying. She ends up doing blood magic. And stupidly walks into Faerie because she made a wrong assumption. The Conclave is a joke. Dennis is the worst vampire ever. He prepares a speech, power point presentation, microphone that you wear, & note cards for Amelia. Who quickly puts a neck breaking stop to that right then & there. Max calls in backup so he can get out from under the shifter kings threat. Bones gets her title of Enforcer stripped thanks to Isobel. And because she can't vote Trevor votes wrong. They needed one more vote & it should have been a sure thing but the fae diplomat votes wrong. All hell breaks loose when the beasts soldiers start attacking.

Prue certainly has had one heckuva a life thus far - and it doesn't seem like it's going to slow down any time soon! Things just seem to go from bad to worse and the world has irrevocably changed in this book. LH has the ability to create what seems to be an insurmountable situation and then resolve it. Each previous book has had an exceptional challenge that gets resolved... this time I'm left wondering how in the world (literally) things will evolve for her personally - as well as the whole world order.

Prue's relationship with Max has a bit of a challenge. Salozar plays a significant role. (I love him! He deserves his own series!!) Isobel continues to outdo herself. Aunt Marche gets reluctantly pulled into the action. We get to see some faces from the past. Dexter even gets new playmates!

The writing continues to be excellent. The cleverness and complexity of the story arc continues to captivate me. The characters are absolutely wonderful. Who could ask for anything more?!?

As the Beast probes Earth’s Paranormal defences Prue has to organise a Conclave of the most powerful Supe leaders to cement the treaty which (a) keep the human population unaware of magic, and (b) prevents the Best from using his power.
“Blood & Bones”, fourth in the series, is somewhat of a stopgap, setting the stage for the final books and, presumably, the ultimate showdown.
It’s very linear and a lot of the usual characters are downplayed. That said, if you’ve read the series so far, it makes perfect sense to pull the plot together at this point.
Isobel, despite her legal loss, appears to have been rewarded rather than punished, and is as vicious as ever.
Gothflower pixie Cindy is still battling her alcohol addiction and low self-esteem – she's been only of my favourite characters from the start – this book sees her at an all-time low.
Dennis, the obsessive lower-management vampire was initially annoying but has grown on me a lot.
It’s another fine episode.

Most Fantastic!!!!!!!

Holy Smokes! This book has so many twists and turns throughout it. I am absolutely shocked at some of the things that occurred. Poor Prue can not catch a break in this one. She is definitely showing her muscle throughout one as deals with the conclave and all the Fae that are causing issues. Then we get to this completely shocking ending that just absolutely blows your mind. I was pulled into this story so deeply that I absolutely couldn’t put it down. I had to find out what was going to happen. It is extremely well written and developed. I absolutely love the descriptions to help me easily picture what is occurring. This is absolutely a stunning story and I can’t wait to see what happens next

Our heroine's life is a bit of a mess right now, but if she slows down, the world might just collapse around her. Oh wait a minute, too late!

This is book four of the series. It does okay as a standalone, but it will be a better experience if read from the beginning.

This is an urban fantasy story with all kinds of critters in it. The story is well written and easy to read. Perhaps too easy to read as it draws you in at the beginning and doesn't let go. The characters are well done, the setting is fascinating and the plot moves along at such a clip that it is hard to put the book down. Overall, this was a very fun story and I look for to the next book.

Highly recommended.

Prue is forced as the Washington DC Enforcer to call a Conclave of the world leaders of the supernatural community to vote on closing the gates to the Fae realm or not. Prue's relationship with Max has to stay hidden, but that's not going to be easy. Salozar, is totally in love with Prue and up to something. Isobel manages to be even more vile and awful.

I agree with another reviewer, 4 stars because I like Prue and the characters and the series, but really this should get a 3.5 because it felt like this was all focused on the new arrivals (and characters I should have known, but don't because I haven't read the earlier series) and not enough focus on Prue.

Wow! This book really kept me glued to my kindle app! Prue has had to call a meeting with the Conclave members from around the world to decide if the gates to Faerie should remain open. It’s one secret game after another with most of the members. And the other member is a personal favorite from the other series, Amelia!! Pry is pushed to her limits trying the keep the agreement in place while keeping her relationship with Max a secret and keeping the delegates happy. There is action, humor, fighting, blood and more. This is probably the best book in the series yet and I can’t wait for the next book! If you haven’t started this series yet, you should!!

Okay. Wow. So much happened

As I write this, I have tears. Weird tears. Happy for Prue in some ways, sad for Salazar. Worried about all the book people I've come to care about since first reading about Imogen and Raph, Sandy and Sinclair. Chloe. Cindy. Aunt Marche. Daniel. Even a little demon cat tied to a little boy.

I know its not over. The final battle has yet to come. It is only book four after all. But the tension is there. Bubbling under the surface. There is a lull, but you can just tell the storm is still coming, and there's no stopping it.

I. Can't. Wait.

good

When this book 1st started, I wasn’t sure if it was going to be as good as the previous books in the series because it seemed like there was not that much action. Once they got the conclave stuff going on it was pretty funny. I liked how FMC dealt with snotty con Members. Even though her sister got into trouble in the last book, she’s still stirring up trouble in this book. There is still a lot of sexual tension between the FMC and her wolf, but more happens on that front in this book as well. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

I love all of the elements of this story. So much Magic and Mayhem, with many different paranormal beings, bringing together a story to keep me up at night reading. The characters leap from the page for me and leave me wanting the next book, so much. I Loved everything about this story!!! No Spoilers! Great Read!

Stunning… as usual.

There is a new order coming and no one knows which order it will be. The Washington DC Engorcer must call a Conclave of the world leaders of the supernatural community do decide the future steps to keep the Beast out. Unfortunately the politics threaten the world as does her crazy sister and a Fae who is in love with her. Rip roaring excitement ensues and book 4 of the series flies by with an ending which can’t be believed. Fantastic series.

WOW!!

All I can say is that this was going on so far in the series. I almost saw it coming. Or thought I did. Not even close.

Ms. Hignett really has outdone herself with this one. It was fast paced without rushing and being unrealistic with time frames. She kept me on my toes and still was able to weave several ,mysteries, one which ends the book on a wow. …hence the title to this review

Phenomenal read. I have been enjoy Lauretta since Imogen first entered into my life. With each book you are taken on a loop and each book leads into the next loop, consecutively, is crescendoing. The Author is a powerful story teller, and I am so excited for the 5th book to drop on 7/31/23. I really hope the author will consider writing. Chloe’s series next and then Amelia’s!!! I can’t wait to read more!

when evil meets evil

Book 4 was everything, it’s about time some of these characters got a slap in the face or in their case more. Cockiness doesn’t get you anywhere. Can see so,w more surprises and twists coming our way in the next book too. It’s addicting and binge worthy. Can’t frigging wait to see how this all plans out and a certain character gets what they deserve and more.

I knew after the first book i was missing some connected books. I didn't realize exactly how many that was until this one. After looking up the universes i found that there are two series that cover events linked to stories in this series. I don't think it makes me miss out on things relevant to this series per se, but i am definitely missing out on character development. Imogene Gray sounds like a series i definitely need to read.

Prue still has so much going on!

The end of the previous book dropped a big piece of info at us, and boy was I glad I didn’t have to wait for the next book to be released! Prue and her found family are dealing with that, a Conclave, Isobel, Cindy’s alcoholism, and so so so much more. There’s quite a lot of action in this one, as usual, plus great character interactions and mysteries. Gotta go - the next book is ready and waiting for me!

Prue and co are back but life as an enforcer is getting really difficult and just life in general is a struggle.
This time she needs to test her faith in Max, save the world and protect her loved ones whilst dealing with the hated ones.
How many times can people push her buttons before she blows.
Finished in one sitting.

I’m Dying!

This series is just so good and Blood and Bones kept me on edge the whole time. So many great reveals. So much action. I love Prue so much and man Amelia is just one wild bird. I’d like to say that’s a terrible Aussie stereotype but it’s not! It’s just too true hahahah. We are all a bit loose and like to party. Another awesome book. Can’t wait for the next one!!

So freaking good

I can't decide if I want this next book to be the last because I'm so impatient for Prue's HEA, or if I never want the series to end. I'm thinking book 5 for this villain and then another series right behind it. I adore these books. They're entertaining, unique and utterly captivating.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As much as I loved the first the books… Lauretta stepped up the game… to top notch on this one.

I say reading most of my shift in the edge of my seat. Following Prue and Max and the beginning of their battle with Beast of Bakkanon.

Non stop action. Developing intrigue. Strengthening friendships.
This one is definitely a must read!

So good

Blood and Bones was a great installment to the series. The series needs to be read in order. God from h POV. Isobel is up to new tricks. Salozar is really growing on me. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for the next book. Because in this one, all Carrie has broken lose.

The title doesn't lie

Fun fast paced urban fantasy.

A consistent world view, fun people, bad enemies, and drama. All the drama.

I highly enjoyed this book and the ending is a sucker punch.

I am binge reading the whole series and really Sweet Bones is definitely better than her evil sister.
