Like any proper noble lady, one must have certain acquired tastes. For Melphiera Marchalrayd, she just happens to crave a rather exotic protein -monsters! But do not judge! Despite its bad reputation, monster meat can be used in exquisite cuisine and Melphiera is determined to change the kingdom’s opinion of it! Unfortunately, since debuting in society, Melphiera has been struggling to find her perfect match...until she meets the fearless “Blood-Mad Duke” of Galbraith!
EDIT: SO EXCITED TO HEAR THAT AN ANIME ADAPTATION HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED TO AIR THIS YEAR!!! very much deserved and so so hyped 🤭

OH MY GOD WOW. i loved this one so much! the premise is incredibly fun and unique. at least, for me. two people, melphiera and the blood mad duke, who have basically been shunned by society for being, shall we say, eccentric in their interests, come together and bond over that very interest.
aristide rogier du galbraith is a duke who passionately loves killing monsters for which he is named "the blood-mad duke." melphiera marchalrayd is the daughter of an earl and loves to cook and eat monster meat, for which she is labelled "the voracious villain." her father and step-mother are desperate for her to find a husband and give her a deadline to find a husband. a struggling melphiera feels hopeless until she meets the blood-mad duke and sparks erupt when they bond over moster meat.
what do i even say about this one? i fully expected a decent time while reading this. what i did not expect was to be blown away by the story. i don't even know how to put in words what about this was appealing to me. the dialogue was so witty, the characters were so likeable and ADORABLE. the characters design is also splendid. kauss, his grace's steward, was such a delightful side character. seeing the dynamic between his grace and kauss made me giggle. i love that melphie and aristide bond over something so unique and fun. i felt the spark between them already and i love the way the duke treats melphie. this first volume itself was such a great time. i am eagerly anticipating the next! i know this series is going to be great and i will pray everyday for it to get animated. it would genuinely make a great anime, especially for fans of campfire cooking in another world with my absurd skill who wish there was a little romance in it!
a huge thanks to kodansha comics and netgalley for an e-arc. all thoughts are my own and not influenced in any way.
So I saw the cover and it drew me right in, wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into but it is so cute and cozy! I absolutely loved how they are both outcasts clearly made for each other. The Duke treats her so well and I love watching being her out of her shell reassuring her he doesn’t see her the same way we everyone else. They do get engaged pretty quickly but I kinda liked it lol The artwork is really good and helps add to the story. Can’t wait for volume two. Thanks to the author , netgalley and publisher for the arc 💜
New favourite manga (and anime!) series. Melphie and Galbraith are both likeable and their dynamic is both hilarious and adorable. A perfect series for those looking for a cozy fantasy romance manga with just a little bit of blood and heaping with yummy-looking meals!
Ok, I was so unsure going into this one. When it comes down to it, it CHARMED ME SO MUCH!!! I did not expect to find this so adorably charming. This comedy of manners has the second prince falling in love with a lowly noble. He's obsessed with killing monsters, and she is obsessed with cooking and eating them. THE CLIFFHANGER OF THIS ONE HAS ME IN A CHOKE HOLD THOUGH!!! I very much need volume 2 right away!!
This was an absolutely adorable little shoujo manga in which a bloodthirsty duke is be spelled and taken in by an adorable aristocratic cook!
Absolutely charmed. It was lovely, sweet, and a great comedy. The lead is funny and endearing, and so true to herself.
One of the cutest, most kawaii little romance fantasies. A fantastical world of dresses and balls and terrifying monsters roaming the wilderness. A handsome duke sweeping her off her feet.
Melphiera is avoided by all nobility & potential suitors due to her desire and specialty for cooking toxic monster meats felled by heroic knights and dukes.
A fearless cook matched with the fearless Blood Mad-Duke of Galbraith! Absolutely adorable! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Stars!
FMC is an Earl's daughter looking for a husband. Thing is, she has a reputation for eating Monster meat, so is shunned. One day at a social event, a monster interrupts and the Blood Mad Duke slays it. They meet, he's smitten, and then he proposes lol.
The art is good, pacing is good, set up intrigues me. I'm not sure how much drama this will give me but I'm liking this first volume!
RECAP: Intro, event, monster, he decapitates it, she gets splattered in blood, she keeps rambling about monsters, he's into it, he takes her back to his hunting party to get cleaned up, his butler chastises him about manners, she leaves to go back home and gives him jerky. Weeks pass, her dad is shocked that he got a marriage proposal for her, info about Duke being the King's brother, Duke shows up on a DRAGON and he brought her a royal monster to prepare.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I just loved the title to this one + the cover was just so pretty (so many details), I just had to request it! So happy I got the chance to read this one~
In this delightful manga we meet Melphiera Marchalrayd, also nicknamed the Voracious Villainess. Why? This girl looks adorable right? Well, this girl has an insatiable hunger for something special. Namely, she loves to eat monsters. Yep. Slice and dice them. Drain, cook, bake them. Whatever you can do she wants to try it all. And yes, that has earned her a reputation to the point that her stepmother is threatening to send her to the cloister if she cannot find a man to marry (I guess that is one way to get rid of your family members, just marry them off). I really loved Melphiera, she was so much fun and I love how brave she was. Though her social interactions at times, well, lacked a bit. Haha. I laughed quite a bit during her first meeting with Aristide Rogier du Galbraith and how adorable she was there.
It was hilarious that the first look we get at Ari (sorry, I am not spelling out your entire name + your nickname is kinda much) is so fitting to his nickname. Yep, just like Melphiera he has earned himself a nickname, and not just anyone. Oh no, his nickname is The Blood-Mad Duke. We find out why he has earned that as the story continued. And yes, given that cold glance he gives after murdering a monster in just one hit, I can understand that people are hesitant to be around him. But really, Ari is just a sweet and wonderful man. Especially since he is also very much into trying out monster meat. Yup. It was fated for these two to meet and to get betrothed (hey, I don’t consider that a spoiler as it was pretty obvious for me that this would happen). I really loved how sweet he was to Melphiera and how he tried helping her out with monsters. Provided of course that she makes yummy food for him, haha.
I really loved how these two hit off and how they got quite close at times. Yes, these two have chemistry and I was just rooting and cheering for them both.
Bonus points to Kauss, a knight/butler/aide for the Galbraith House. He was such a cool and fun character. Plus, hello, a butler-type character with glasses and a slight attitude, sign me up!
I loved seeing all the foods that she made or was planning on making! Yes, they are monsters, but is that any different from eating normal animals? Given how yummy it is I would think not. Haha. I would definitely love to try out some of the foods she makes + help her out with preparing. I do love cooking so that would be fun!
I really really enjoyed the art. Not only were the character designs a lot of fun, but I also loved how the food was drawn (thank you for making my stomach rumble, haha).
I am curious what happened to Melphiera’s mom and what that lab has to do with it! Hopefully in the next volume we learn more!
I cannot wait to see what is next for this girl + for the duke. I do hope for many yummy moments both in love and food! I would recommend this one.
It definitely lived up to my expectations of being something super enjoyable to read, but I never expected the romance to be so fun and be heavy in this volume!!
The bonding over monster meat is such a unique and wonderful touch as these two are a perfect match! I really really liked that part of the story and how often Melphiera completely forgot herself as she would excitedly talk about the different food one can cook from monster meat and her excitement for monsters in general. Then to have Aristide actively listen to her and engage in conversation with his own excitement made me deeply happy for our main girl!
With that said, I think the romance wasn't too rushed? Everything DOES happen fast, but I think given both of their backstories and how they have been mistreated by society (or at least ostracized), it didn't seem so weird that it couldn't be love at first sight. And not only that, but just how they both were able to share their passions together and haven't been able to do that with other people. It really made it something special and I was very happy about later developments when it came to the romance!
I'm already a big fan of the main cast of characters and hope we will continue to see them because everyone made me laugh at some point! And goodness, I laughed SO much while reading this! It was a total delight and as a result, I will be preordering volume two as soon as I can! I NEED to see more of this romance bloom and what monster meat Melphiera will be cooking up next!
“Any monster can be turned into the most exquisite dish, so long as it’s prepared correctly.”
Melphiera isn’t your average royal. In her spare time, she likes to butcher monsters and… eat them. This odd hobby has given her the title “Voracious Villainess”, which she doesn’t agree with whatsoever. Because, let’s be real, she just likes to cook.
The manga was a delight and exactly what I needed after my recent reading slump. Not many other “monster hunting” mangas have a female lead who isn’t a total badass or tsundere. The romance was sweet and naïve and everything I wanted. I just wish we could have seen more character growth. Judging from the end of this volume 1, this will probably be picked up in the next volume. So, I’m remaining hopeful.
Why 4 stars? Some of the art didn’t look as polished as it should have. I don’t know if it was intentional, but in one of the panels, the main character doesn’t have any hands. They seem to vanish into her dress, but there are no folds or creases that would indicate that. I also found at least one copied panel, and some of the backgrounds were too confusing.
All in all, a solid 4 star read.
I accessed an advanced copy through NetGalley. All my opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this manga! It’s a lighthearted and charming story following “The Voracious Villainness” Melphiera Marchalrayd, who just happens to love cooking monsters as she searches for her perfect match! (She’s honestly not much of villainess - it’s just considered wildly eccentric to enjoy monster meat that everyone believes to be poisonous.) During a social gathering, she meets the “Blood-Mad Duke” of Galbraith and they turn out to be a perfect pair.
I adored the dynamic between Melphie and Aristide (the Duke)! It’s such a perfect pairing - a girl who loves cooking monsters and a duke who loves slaying them. Aristide is sooooo sweet towards Melphie and falls for her almost immediately. Their interactions are irresistibly cute, and I couldn’t get enough.
I need the second volume! And the anime adaptation is also out now too!
Thank you Kodansha Comics for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Disclaimer: I received a review copy for free via Netgalley, and am voluntarily leaving my honest thoughts. Many thanks to Kodansha Comics for the opportunity!
I was immediately drawn into this by the art style and the concept, and I feel like the mangaka did a really great job with the setup! I fell in love with both main characters basically at first sight 😂 and loved their dynamic when they interacted! It was so charming to see them bond over monsters, and the historical romance vibes was pretty strong too. Even though I was taken a bit aback by some of the developments, I think it still fit with the vibe. Absolutely looking forward to continuing the series!
-- This was so fucking adorable and I love both of them already. Full RTC!
This was fun. On one level it's a story about two people who are very excited to talk about their unique interests. On the other, it's a story of two misfits who've been ridiculed for those interests and who find solace, joy, and eventually love together. There's humor and creativity galore here, and both leads are just so damn lovable.
Boring. I’m tired of “little lady” characters and the “cold and stoic” dukes who are the “strongest in the realm”. He does seem to have more going on for him (he has a dorky side and blushes a lot) but there’s too many dumb fantasy tropes for me to care (no sir, a sword is a terrible weapon to hunt monsters, also they’re light enough a child can lift them).
The female character has an interesting backstory but I simply do not care for her tropes and her bland, simple personality. She also has no useful skills except… cooking. Wow. How original.
Such a fun first volume! It kind of gives “Hi, I’m a Witch and My Crush Wants Me to Make Love Potion” vibes. I can’t wait to see what volume 2 has in store!
In it, we’re introduced to Melphiera—our leading lady who is well-known for her exotic tastes. She very much enjoys eating monster meat—much to the horror and disgust of many of her fellow nobles. At her step-mother’s behest, Melphiera is in search of a husband. But, because of her unusual palette, it’s been difficult not to scare away potential partners.
Enter the “Blood-Mad Duke” of Galbraith.
A renowned warrior, this Duke is not afraid of any monsters—nor young ladies who enjoy eating their flesh. He’s instantly enamored by Melphiera.
But, will circumstances allow this seemingly match made in hell to blossom?
It’s an odd but cute story.
Is the actual storytelling or plot all that interesting? Not really. [In fact, I’m beginning to find this kind of formulaic storytelling where the goal just seems to be to churn out as many “unique enough but still recognizable” manga to be a little underwhelming.] But, it’s very much the equivalent of your standard, generic romance novel—(Character A + Character B) x Misunderstanding / Conflict = (eventually) Love.
Anyway, if you enjoy a cozy fantasy romance, I’m sure you’d enjoy this manga too~
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange of an honest review!
This is a light fantasy shojo manga that is simply amazing! The art and character designs are absolutely beautiful. The story is pretty lighthearted but I sense there will be higher stakes in upcoming volumes. I’m usually more of a slow burn romance person but the instant love in this manga was very well done and I can’t wait to see the progression of the relationship between Melphie and the duke!
I give this 5 stars and I will purchase the physical copy as well! It was so good, highly recommend!
'Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!' is a charming new romantasy series that stars Melphiera, a "voracious" young lady well-known for her hobby of transforming monster meat into delicious delicacies, and the fearless "Blood-mad Duke" of Galbraith, who is instantly charmed by her curious antics.
♡
This was such a cute start to the series! Going into it I'd assumed it would be rather comedic, with the female lead villainized as someone who consumes intoxicated monster meat - but that was far from the truth! Although there's definitely humorous banter between the characters, the heart of the story is definitely the blossoming romance between Melphiera and the enamoured Duke, Aristide. I adore them~ 🥹💗
I'm curious to continue the series and find out more about Melphiera's research into monster meat and her mysterious mother's laboratory! The only thing I have to add though is that the beasts/monsters are all illustrated so beautifully! I kind of feel a little bad that they're going to be eaten..
If you're looking for a new fantasy romance series with stunning artwork then check this out!
Rating: 4/5 — Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha comics for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Absolutely loved this book! ‘Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!’ is a cute fantasy romance about Melphiera Marchalrayd, a quirky lady who is known by the citizens as the ‘Voracious Villainess for her odd food preference of eating monster meat. She meets the ‘Blood Mad Duke’ Aristide Rogier du Galbraith who is intrigued by her cooking methods.
The first novel serves as a great introduction to the story and gives a small amount of backstory for our main pair, I really look forward to reading more about these characters as they get to know each other and hopefully will lean towards a bit of an adventure! The art for the manga is absolutely gorgeous and the magic system explained so far is really interesting, I really look forward to reading more.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kondansha Comics for providing me with an eARC in return for an honest review.
Can I say this is so adorable 😭😭😭😭. I'm a sucker for romance that is not overly pining but when both are trying to understand each other's likes. The female lead was known to be gluttonous and have a voracious appettite for monster's meat so people avoided her and bad rumors surrounded her. But she is just a noble lady albeit with a lower status in the high society who appreciated good foods and enthusiastic on whats best way to cook them. Its so cute to see how the male lead accomodate to her needs and accept the way she is. Cannot wait to see how their loves gonna blossom 🥺🥺🥺.
Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review
Utterly charming manga. Seriously, it's sort of an awkward title but so, SO cute. Thank you to NetGalley, Kodansha comics and to the author, Chika Mizube, for the opportunity to read. This was recommended at the SLJ/ Library Journal LibraryCon event and I can see why. Such a sweet story with a "bloodthirsty" duke who kills monsters and the "voracious villainess" (I get voracious, but why villainess? anyways) who likes to cook them. Apparently in this society both pursuits are frowned upon. There's clearly something more to Melphie's research on cooking and eating monsters, which I'll have to get book #2 to investigate. The art was terrific: peak cute. I liked the shading on the kawaii scenes. And after having attended the panel on how comics get made, I paid particular attention to the lettering which was very well done. I liked this a lot and I'll be hunting down the rest of the series.
It's potentially really cool. I just could not get over the talk about killing and eating monsters - it's not the monster bit that I could not get over, but the murdering, skinning, and then eating them
This was so cute!! We've got an obsessed with food (and monsters) main character and her love interest, a duke with a killer reputation. Together they are a blushing pair of weirdos, and I ate it up.
I loved all of the characters, the plot is fun, and the art is well done. I wish the second volume was translated and already out so I could binge read the series.
If you are a fan of fantasy, romance, cooking, and a MMC who would do probably anything for the heroine- I would recommend this for you! Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing the ARC of this volume!
i was expecting to like this, sure. but i wasn't expecting to be so utterly charmed by it that i had to go cancel a bunch of other holds at my library just so i could immediately put the next 4 volumes on hold. this is FUN.

"Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! vol. 1" was such a fun read!
"The Voracious Villainess" and "The Blood-Mad Duke" are a match made in monster heaven. Melphiera loves to eat monster meat but is looked down upon by doing so. Duke Galbraith loves to hunt and cut down monsters just as much. I love that through their first meeting they had chemistry. It was actually love at first sight!
