In a Christ-centered company, Jesus is revealed through the influencers of the company and, ultimately, throughout its defining culture and habits.
Marketplace Christians are occasionally told platitudes like “The Bible is the best handbook for business,” “God cares about business,” “Business is ministry,” and “You don’t have to leave the business world to do work that glorifies God.” However, few have seen the actionable, scriptural proof that these claims are indeed the case—other than perhaps a proverb here and there.
The Christ-Centered Company provides practical biblical commentary and real-world best practices for 37 biblical business “habits” that define the culture and operations of a Christ-centered company. In this book, we’ll explore what the Bible says about each of the following major aspects of the company you Imagine how much your company’s habits, culture, performance, and impact would upgrade if you were to discover and apply God’s will for every aspect of your company. This is a growth process that begins when one influencer in a company decides to partner with God in his mission to conform the company to his will.
Will you be that person on behalf of your company and everyone it influences?
This was a nice first step in learning about the business world as I'm wondering and learning how to start a small business myself. It's written for the influential people of an already functioning company, so none of it applied to me as I don't have a company. It is also running under the assumption that you're a part of a relatively large/profitable company or at least one that has some level of success and influence.
It is not a how-to run a business. It's a list of habits a Christ-centered business should practice and why, given some applicable biblical lessons. Namely, as influential people, we are called to be fishers of men and to do that, we must practice Christ-centered business, not money-grubbing business. The title is exactly accurate.
Overall, I appreciated it a lot and took plenty of notes in case someday I have any sort of business or any number of employees or level of success. It was very grounding in Christian business practices, which was why I wanted to read it and chose to read it before I read my small-business for dummies collection. I wanted a faith-inspired mindset going into my research. I recommend it to anyone who needs help turning their business towards Christ.
There are many great secular business books that provide formulas for success. As Christians, we know the only formula for success is doing it God's way. Darren beautifully captures some of the most important habits to incorporate in your business. I found myself highlighting content on every page because of the amount of wisdom contained on each page. There are practical steps that accompany each habit to help the business owner apply what they learn. I will be referring back to this book often as we continue to grow our companies!
For anyone seeking Him in their business leadership, this is the book to read! It will give you focus on a Christ-led path to leading a business, organization, department.
