About the author

Jenny Dale

192 books43 followers
Prolific author of animals stories for younger children, in particular dog and cat stories. As well as a Puppy Tales and Kitten Tales series she has written the Pony Tales series of pony books.

There is some speculation that the author does not actually exist but is a psuedonym for another author or authors. One author mentioned as writing under the name of Jenny Dale is Liss Norton, who incidentally is also said to be one of the ghostwriters for the Lucy Daniels Animal Ark series.

Love this series. It's really great for young readers -- especially those who like dogs or animals. The Great Escape has an interesting plot-line, as it brought in some deeper questions for kids to think about. Like testing cosmetics on animals, and joining the effort to stand up for something you think is right or wrong.

I remember enjoying this book as a dog crazy kiddo, and am slowly re-reading the series to approve for my kids. Overall I think this story is well done in that it can bring up a lot of discussion topics on right and wrong. The only thing I did not like was Neil's anger towards the man that stole the pups and on page 93 Neil states he will kill the theif if the pups were in any way hurt which is certainly not a rational way to handle the tense situation nor a healthy mindset to have.
