A little tough to begin, given the Newfoundland dialect, but once this became comfortable, an interesting read. Concerns the hardscrabble life of fishermen where life is difficult and death at sea seems certain. It's as if each knew the end, but not the time nor place. But the end was sure. There is a nobility in the lives of these men. Each story presented a man in crisis, of one type or another. Each man stoically faced the impending crisis alone. Some made decisions I hope I would make. Some made decisions that I probably wouldn't make. But the environment of these men created them, in a very real sense. Their decisions arose from the harshness of that environment.
