Rate this book
General Ashavi Kaur was the world’s most ruthless mercenary commander… and now she is dead. Left behind is a magical clone created by identical to her in every way, meant to replace her in the event of her fall. Except the clone has different ideas. She means to forge her own path, write her own script—but the dead general’s enemies are numberless; they’ll stop at nothing to ensure she’s gone for good. The clone—the new Ashavi Kaur—will need to marshal every resource to survive. That means deceiving the mercenary organization as well as the general’s two sorceress wives, which brings her ever closer to assuming the role she despises. Yet she has little whoever killed her original is going to come for her next. Games in the dark. Chases across the globe. Blood and deadly magic. Shadow of Gorgon is a short lesbian urban fantasy novel, first in a series that chronicles the mercenary company Gorgon, set in a world of passion and lethal violence.

This series shares the same universe as Those Who Break Chains .

i will not lie, i didn’t particularly care for the main character (cerise) but the other characters, particularly the wives, make up for where she lacks. can’t wait for the second book!

Interesting and gritty lesbian urban fantasy about an analyst named Cerise working for a big mercenary assassination conglomerate who wants to make her move into real killing to get close to the General. The thing is, the General’s dead, replaced by a clone who needs to find out who killed her original and stop them from killing her too. It’s got a lot of action, much of it in the form of magical duels reminiscent of certain anime battles, and some interesting romance twists, including the General’s wives (plural) and a sibyl who helps Cerise along the way. I was less persuaded by the romance than I’d have liked to be, compared to other books in the universe (the book is co-authored by Benjanun Sriduangkaew, who also co-writes the Chainverse series under the pen name Maria Ying), but it was a fun read, and I’ll definitely read the next one when it comes out.

This was SO MUCH FUN TO READ!!! It was really romantic and traumatic and funny and all the characters felt really original and worked really well together. I was also not expecting [REDACTED] and I am looking forward to Book Two so much!
