About the author

M. Louisa Locke is recently retired from over 20 years as a professor of U.S. Women's history, and she is now embarked on s second career writing historical fiction. The first book in her Victorian San Francisco Mystery series, Maids of Misfortune, is a best-seller in the historical mystery category.

One thing I realized about this series is the amount of life in the stories. There are things that fly, things that do things in the land and sea, and that's animals. In my books, I hardly mention those things, and frankly, as a former Soldier, I was basically told not to mess with the wildlife. I kinda realist that David Drake was apparently told the same thing, and therefore in his stories (except for like one) he hardly mentions populated planets with wildlife. Anyway, the story gets pretty good, and frankly thought the MC was a lesbian, but the story doesn't support that theory, but yeah, just a trivia thing for the book. The theory is quashed with the other main character, but anyway, the story is overall alright, they save the day from a mischievous plot that, well, is par for the course for humans and the native Ddearans on the planet. Some more revelations come out at the end of the story, and it kinda ruins the story, though I will give it high marks for some originality of some sorts. Anyway, I'll finish up the next book, hopefully a little faster than this one, unfortunately (competing priorities), but we'll see.

Eventful

I am completely enamored with this world and those who live in it. The characters are so dimensional and normal while being extraordinary. I love how the relationships continue to evolve. I also love the little mysteries that are woven throughout the story. There is so much to explore and discover.

Mei Lin and Jaxom along with the natives of Paradisi continue their adventure. Mei Lin uncovers a plot to destroy the harbour of New Hong Kong.
Mei Lin's grandmother works on finding a way to boost the immune of Great Grandmother and Grandfather.
Mei Lin meets more natives and they help her to get the proof to stop the destruction of the harbour and eco system.
Really enjoyed this series.

Great follow-on book

This book took the story further and to places unexpected. The main characters are well developed and the plot moves along well. Editing could be improved.

4 and a half stars. A good story, finally furthering the romance between Mei Lin and Jaxon, and with plenty of action. Still too much second guessing and presuming and thinking, but much better than book 2.
