About the author

Dominique Sourdel was a French historian specialized in medieval Islam.

He was an honorary professor of Islamic History and Civilization at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne. He was also director of the Revue des Etudes Islamiques and co-directs with Janine Sourdel, professor emeritus of history of Islamic art and archeology at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, the "Islamic" collection at the Presses Universitaires de France.

Une bonne introduction à l'histoire des Arabes. Il est important de relever qu'il s'agit d'un balayage des grandes tendances historiques - toutefois sans trop entrer dans les détails - des mondes Arabes, de la période pré-islamique [Ve-VIe siècle] jusqu'à nos jours.
Cette ouvrage permet d'éclairer le lecteur pour qui cette histoire de cette partie importante du globe est inconnue.

Arap -ve İslam- tarihine dışardan bir bakış; okunması gereken güzel bir başlangıç kitabı. Ancak çeviri üzerine yorum bile yapmaktan imtina etmek isterim: Her sayfasında "hanedanlık" yazacak kadar bir Türkçe kılavuzdan, sözlükten nasıl bu kadar uzak olunabilir, bilmiyorum.

Kitap vasat zaten ama asıl bu kitabın çevirisini yapan kişiye yemek tarifi bile çevirtilmemesi gerekiyor.

This is a book of history literally as the title says. You feel like you're in a documental and I like that personally. If you want to know the exact things, in a way that can be told, you should read his small book that takes one day to read!
