I was given this particular Bible as a Christmas gift when I was 14. I've studied it many times over the years, and it's always been my go to for research. But I've never read it through before. For the most part I followed the daily lectionary from the old Lutheran hymnal, so it wasn't in order but it was close. This surly won't be the last time.
Never mind the study Bible bit -- sure, it's helpful -- but more helpful than that is journaling and praying to God as you read through His inspired Word and watch history unfold through His eyes and through the cross of Jesus. If you read any book in your lifetime, read the Bible. Then re-read it and watch your life transform as God pursues you.
God is good! I followed the one year plan called M'Cheyne, and now I'm starting over with the chronological plan. Spending time with God's word on daily basis, and studying it for yourself is life-changing. I'm so thankful everyday for the grace of Jesus Christ.
My goal for 2014 was to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. I accomplished that goal. I really like this version of the Bible. While I find the KJV very poetic, I find the NIV easier for me to read and understand.
