There have been many imitators, but only Jackie Collins can tell you what really goes on in the fastest lane of all. From Beverly Hills bedrooms to a raunchy prowl along the streets of Hollywood; from glittering rock parties and concerts to stretch limos and the mansions of power brokers-Jackie Collins chronicles the real truth from the inside looking out.

Jackie Collins has been called a "raunchy moralist" by the late director Louis Malle and "Hollywood's own Marcel Proust" by Vanity Fair magazine. With over 500 million copies of her books sold in more than forty countries, and with some 30 New York Times bestsellers to her credit, Jackie Collins is one of the world's top-selling novelists. She is known for giving her readers an unrivalled insider's knowledge of Hollywood and the glamorous lives and loves of the rich, famous, and infamous. "I write about real people in disguise," she says. "If anything, my characters are toned down-the truth is much more bizarre."

Jackie Collins died of breast cancer Saturday, September 19, 2015. Jackie Collins, who had kept her illness secret, said recently that she believed in an afterlife, that she had no regrets and that she had emulated Frank Sinatra in that “I did it my way.”

If you follow my reviews or my page, then you might be aware I am making my way through the catalogue of Jackie Collins books. Can you believe I now only have one left??

That being said I feel like I can happily end my journey with Collins as at this point every book plot seems to be the same but with different characters. This book being no exception, in fact I had to check twice that I hadn’t already read this one as it seemed so familiar.

We have in Hollywood Wives The Next Generation the classic Jackie Collins ingredients. The setting, sunny La and a trip to Vegas, check. The Characters, glossy stunning actress with lousy scumbag husband, handsome hero and side character starlets, check. Drama, kidnapping and crass villain, check. It’s everything you need for a Jackie Collins book.

I think having read all but one book these are just starting to become so predictable so my rating is only a 3, however if this was my first Collins book read poolside it would undoubtably be a higher score but at this point it’s just too predictable. However, for me, summer wouldn’t be summer without one of these books, it’s just a shame a lot of the plot seems to be recycled. I also think these books are becoming a bit dated which of course is no surprise, however Collins seemed ahead of her game at exposing sex pests and lewd behaviour towards women. I almost think some of her books are an exposé of her time in Hollywood.

A good entertaining cosy mystery set in Hollywood if the book was shortened by 200 pages, it would have been more bearable to be read.

4,5-5*

I just LOVE Jackie Collins writing style! She is an EASY read & trashy & FUN! I enjoy picking up one of her books after I finish a "dark" or "heavy" read.
Can't wait to read another - well, after maybe a John Grisham / or Jullian Hoffman... LOL!!!
ENJOYED IT!

Read it on the bus to NYC. A good fiction book for a bus or plane ride or an afternoon by the pool. Sometimes you just want a nice easy read with sex, intrigue, a stupid criminal, money hungry people cheating on other people with low morals, all set in California! Yeah Jackie!

Andy Warhol was a major disrupter in the art scene. He mocked, manufactured, and commodified serious art which changed the industry forever. Similarly, Jackie Collins completely disrupted the traditional romance novel by mocking, reimagining and commodifying this entire genre of literature. Her books were daring, glamorous, sexy and explicit, with a lurking underbelly of crime and danger. Jackie Collins was prolific and reached her productive and highly successful peak in the mid 1980’s with the iconic, ‘Hollywood Wives’. Almost two decades later she wrote, ‘Hollywood Wives: the New Generation’, with a promise of capitalising on what made the first version an international best seller. Unfortunately, ‘The New Generation’ is a flaccid shadow of the former which displays none of its disruptive insight, sexual excitement, or clever writing. This novel is clearly a manufactured cash-in on the brand of the first book, with no obvious correlation of connection or reason. Within her genre, Jackie Collins was a great writer and a great publicist, but sadly by the early 2000’s, she had bled her successful formula dry and her books became manufactured pulp fiction. Unlike Andy Warhol, she could not reinvent herself and remain relevant. But her unnecessary later books, should not undermine the originality and achievement of her classics - do not read about the next generation of Hollywood wives, instead go back to the authentic source which changed publishing forever!

This story is about the posh and lavish lifestyle of Hollywood celebrity wives and about their struggle to stay on top of their game. The story focusses on the female protagonist Lissa Roman the platinum blonde superstar and eye candy of Hollywood and her couple of friends, how they deal with fame, backstabbing and the heart breaks. The story mainly focuses about the protagonist and her friends and their struggles. Sometimes it also their negative sides, where the manipulation are too blatant to miss. The book shows the life story of the Hollywood celebrity lifestyle.

I recently watched a documentary about Jackie Collins which was so full of detail due to Jackie documenting her life through the years in diaries and home video footage, right from childhood through to adulthood. I enjoyed the programme so much and found myself looking across to the bookcase knowing I had a couple of her books sitting there. I’ve read and enjoyed several of Jackie’s books in the past, including the first 3 in the Lucky Santangelo series, but I haven’t read one in well over 20 years (crikey where does the time go!). I started reading this one with trepidation wondering whether I would still rate her stories all these years later and I’m relieved to say that I do. She’s a great story teller and has the ability to draw you in early on and make you really care for the main character/s. I found myself wondering which Hollywood stars she’d been quietly observing this time to base this book on. I was torn between Madonna and J.Lo for the character of Lissa, Janet Jackson or Whitney Houston for Kyndra and there were definite references to other stars, Susan Sarandon was surely the star playing opposite Taylor in her tv series. I remembered having so much fun in the past trying to work out who her fictional characters were based on. I mean Lucky Santangelo was definitely married to Chevy Chase. Yes there’s usually loads of sex in her books, not so much in this one but as always there were plenty of references to it. However this just depicts how sex and power driven a lot of people in Hollywood are, especially the wannabe actors, the high up film producers (Harvey Weinstein?) and the groupies. I know Jackie gets accused of misogyny in her books but we’re always hearing these days about how stars - especially female ones - were treated on their rise to fame so I believe again, Jackie was just telling it how she saw it. Not forgetting this particular book was published in 2001 so compared to today it is going to seem even more misogynistic. The theme running through these books is generally girl power, although it’s not just the girls who we’re rooting for, there’s a few blokes who come out on top too and deservedly so, so it’s not all one sided. Jackie Collins is a scratch to be itched every so often and I reckon one a year is perfect for me from now on.

It was not like the Jackie Collins I am accustomed reading, did she write this book or was it a ghost writer?
The ending did nothing what-so-ever for me. I wanted more drama between the brothers, like seriously, both of them were into the same female..even though Evan was a douche. Their mother? So much potential for drama there.

Then her father..really?! That was all we got, no drama with the countess of blah blah.

Then all of a sudden the hotel owner is in on it and nobody crosses him..how was he getting crossed? He owed the woman that money.

I just could not get into it at all.

golden dialog, tawdry narrative, nifty plot, decadent showcase...though, better than all the typical hollywood movies and TV sitcoms combined.

Flashback to the past! When I was a teenager, reading Jackie Collins was life! She was the OG of Hollywood glam and trash novels!

After listening to Young Rich Widows last month, it reminded me of Jackie Collins novels so I decided to take a quick read down memory lane.

It has been a good 25 years since I read Hollywood Wives but the funny thing is, once I started reading I remembered it quite vividly. I was an impressionable teenager lol Easy read involving spoiled rich entitled characters, everyone cheating on everyone...lol...typical JC novel but also legendary.

It was nice to give my brain a rest from psychological thrillers with this one. You can never go wrong with a Jackie Collins novel.

I know that Jackie Collins’ books are kind of trashy, but I have to admit that they are a guilty pleasure. This is the second one of hers that I’ve read, and I have to admit that she has tells an interesting story and has a lot of little sub plots going on. I was a little bit concerned that she was going to leave one of the sub plots dangling, but she wraps up all the loose ends nicely at the end of the book, and I appreciate that. This story focuses on Lissa Roman, a Hollywood star, who is ending her fourth bad marriage, and her circle of friends and the trials they are going through. The book has everything from drugs to affairs to kidnapping— and at the end, love wins out. At least, where it’s supposed to win. An interesting read.

The way the cast characters individual lives intersect with each other throughout jackie collins's novel was well paced. and though her depictions of rape and sexual abuse in her fiction novels are most disturbing in their brutality; i think this was done to put emphasis on the fact that rape and sexual abuse are horrible crimes that hurt people in multiple ways.

But with that said jackie collins writing is still clever and her books are worth reading and buying for people that don't get triggered by frank descriptions of rape and sexual abuse .

Not my usual genre but had been gifted this book as recommended to read. Read most of Jackie Collins books in my younger days so knew what to expect. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it as Jackie Collins is very good at introducing the characters and keeping each of their stories going intertwining with each other. Comparing to her older books I’d say this was less raunchy but that didn’t make the story any less enjoyable. I wouldn’t think twice about reading another Jackie Collins book, she is a master of her genre.

Super slow read. There was low-key drama but nothing that kept you on your toes. Unnecessary characters and their stories that could have been omitted thar wouldn't have changed the story. Very predictable storyline that wasn't original with usual rich stars, affairs, divorces etc. The only interesting part was the kidnapping but that happened at the end. Overall a long, mediocre an unoriginal read.

Trashy chicklit which requires little grey matters to read. It's in a pile of secondhand books I received and I needed something shallow after the Last JP I read which shook me. JC definitely has a formula and she follows it religiously. Can't tell the difference between this one and one I happened to read 20years ago.

This is the first Jackie Collins book I have picked up, and sadly quickly put back down... It was not for me!
The writing was mediocre, not hooking me in, and the story followed too many characters, which was annoying since I was only slightly interested in one.
I did DNF this read at 60 pages, maybe I'll pick up another Jackie Collins in the distant future.

3-4 stars. Maybe 3.5?

Not a memorable book. Gave me a headache. The mystery/thriller part was disappointing. Some of the romances were badly-written. The endings were rushed. I think I liked Bryan, but I can't remember because (as I said), the book's forgettable.

After watching a documentary about Jackie Collins, I wanted to give one of her novels a try. While her story is interesting and she is recognized as a pioneer for women authors of erotica, this type of story and lifestyle don't appeal to me at all.

If you are looking for a light read with lots of gossip, sex and danger, this one is for you. Well, it might not be a light read but you will not want to put it down. The ending caught me totally off guard and the way it all came together in the end was so clever!
