Piaf was in places quite a different from the movie La Vie en Rose. But it was very enjoyable and gave a remarkable in sight to a woman with such a tremendous voice. I first heard Edith Piaf sing on old records my mother used to play sometimes. While as a child I didn't understand the French language Edith Piaf spoke I was fascinated by the way she sang. I don't always read biographies about people as events and things said or done can be fabricated to suit what ever needs of the author. Not so at all in this case. Margaret Crosland was honest and forthwright with her obvious heroine. A great read.

Learned a lot about Piaf, and there are extensive discography, videography and other lists.

I am really enjoying reading this book about the life and turbulent times of Edith Piaf. Crosland followed a dedicated trail to find the true story behind the mythology of the life of a chanteuse who sang from the heart. I'm still enjoying reading this book and would certainly recommend it, as it weaves an interesting insight into 1930s and 1940s Paris in the heyday of music-hall.

A well written book. The most recent movie about Piaf must have taken some of its material from this work.

This is a pretty drab biography of an exciting life. The facts are there, along with a few juicy stories, but they all fall flat under Crosland's pen.
