It’s twice the pressure to solve a shocking murder, once Inspector Hilary Casgrain realizes a killer is circling and taking aim again.
A catastrophic pileup on the treacherous winter highway through Arrow Pass draws Inspector Casgrain and her team into a web of violence that threatens the nearby community of Elk Ridge.
From tourists at the posh ski resort to business owners on the picturesque main street there are desperate questions but no answers.
Can the small-town police department that Hilary leads cope with the aftermath of the crash, complications from the winter storm, and what appears to be a random stabbing at a brawl in the parking lot of the Grizzly Grill?
Hilary can’t help looking over her shoulder. The past is reaching forward with the greatest danger of all.
Murder At Arrow Pass is another compelling page-turner in this new crime fiction series.
I love writing every day and the result so far is three mystery series, and counting. I’ve been retired from teaching for a couple of years, and am totally immersed in my new career as a mystery writer. I hope you enjoy the results! The Murder In Season trilogy features injured detective constable Claire Beckett. The longer Poodle Versus… series is a reader favorite. It features small-town action, zany characters, and a Nasty Small Poodle who will capture your heart. This year I plan to release several books following DC Holly Towns, starting with Goodbye Port Alma. The Free Prequels to all my series are available on my website, AnneShillolo.com. You can find me on Facebook as Anne Shillolo Writer. Happy reading!
Action packed, heart pounding thrill ride of a story! This second book in the Inspector Hilary Casgrain series is not to be missed! There appears to be a crime wave in the otherwise peaceful mountain resort town. Yet the inspector and her team are not quite convinced these crimes are not related. As the investigation continues the pressure and the danger heats up. Can they catch the culprit or culprits before they strike again? I absolutely loved this book!! I was completely absorbed in the story from the start and when I had to break for silly things like meals I was surprised at home much time had passed as I was immersed in the case. I enjoyed the team approach to investigating where everyone regardless of rank has a chance for their ideas to be heard and acted on. The team has true affection for one another, their jobs and their town. I’m finding it very difficult to express just how much I loved the book without being all spoilery. So let me just say first you will be so shocked at who the culprit is and second if you like action, thrillers, mysteries or police procedurals of any kind you will love this book!! I received an ARC from this author. The opinions expressed in this review are wholly my own and reflect my true feelings on this book.
A routine but catastrophic pileup on the treacherous winter highway through Arrow Pass draws Inspector Hilary Casgrain and her team into a web of violence that threatens the nearby community of Elk Ridge. While checking vehicles caught in the winter pileup, Casgrain finds the body of a woman she recently had a dispute with – a dispute that, thanks to people with cell phones and too much time on their hands, ended up on the intranet. That body, combined with the aftermath of the storm and the crash, and a random stabbing at a local hotspot, keep Casgrain and her team busy.
I read the first book in the series, Murder at Elk Ridge, and liked it so much I immediately bought (and read) this one. I was not disappointed. The plot had it all – accidents, multiple murders, drug running, natural born killers, and the return of a character I particularly like from earlier in the series that Casgrain hasa crush on. These books are well written, with good dialogue, great descriptions, and a nice balance of work life and home life. I enjoyed watching how Hilary got herself out of predicaments and kept her team safe.
Shillolo also writes the Holly Towns/Port Alma Murder Mysteries, of which the Elk Ridge books are a spin-off, and the the Poodle Versus … cozy series. I stumbled on this author, and I’m glad I did. Well worth a read.
Loved it! This series is amazing. This story was well written and had a very well plotted mystery. There are multiple clues sprinkled throughout the pages, some sending the reader off into a rabbit hole trying to figure out who the killer is. There were also multiple crimes to be solved making this book really fun. Last but not least the characters are amazing. Definitely add this to your TBR pile!
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Murder at Arrow Pass is a book that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I was fully invested immediately, and I thought this book was incredible. The story is very well executed, the characters are great, and this book will keep you guessing the whole time that you are reading. If you love a good thriller that will keep you hooked, then this book would be perfect for you.
Inspector Hilary Casgrain Murder Mysteries: Murder at Arrow Pass, #2 - I died laughing from the last three sentences of this story. The rest of the story had my attention with all the crime and the work done by the police force. Characters from the first book arrive in Elk Ridge, adding to the workload. Interesting story lines along with getting to know the ERPD characters better, and intriguing crimes made this easy to read without stops. Source: The author. 5*
Murder at Aspen Creek - The prequel to a new series by Ms. Shillolo. Interesting, intriguing with immersing story lines and good characters. A lot going on in this quick to read story. 5*
Murder at Elk Ridge, #1 - I enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed the Port Alma Murder Mysteries by this author. Always well written with good characters, good dialog and good story lines making it easy to get immersed in the drama. There are quite a few cases going on from hate crimes to serial murders as the new Inspector begins life in a smaller town. There are twists and the story is beefy. No silly dramas or ridiculous thoughts or actions but well oiled team work between the police force members, and the townspeople. 5* Inspector Hilary Casgrain Murder Mysteries end.
Port Alma Murder Mysteries: Goodbye Port Alma - Surprised and excited to find this author. Finally after all the trash I have to wade through to find an author that cannot only write an interesting story with good characters and good story lines, but also does not use profanity, knows proper grammar and punctuation and does not feel the need to add current politics. Refreshing. Fast-paced. Ready for the next book. 5*
Goodbye Lake Street - One big mistake made: Why wasn't 911 called either while she was chasing her or after the other incident was under control? Fifteen minutes is too long to remember the chased. Otherwise, a good relaxation. I missed the three previous books but it did not affect the story, a stand alone. Good, clean read with good characters and good story lines. Easy to read and fast-paced till the last page. 4*
Goodbye Foxbridge Lane, prequel - Interesting, short introduction to the Goodbye series. Good characters and good story lines. 4*
Goodbye Sky Field, #6 - Well written with intense story lines had me immersed in the pages, taking my time to read this book. Holly did well with all the cases from one day's events and the personal attack that puts her behind the desk. The ending was a cheerful balance to the heavy topics unfolding through out the story. Probably the best book so far. 5*
Goodbye Linden Square, #7 - This series is one of my favorites. Good, intelligent characters blended with good story lines, old and new, and good dialog weave a tapestry of interest and intrigue that is hard to put once reading begins. It is difficult to write a review without it becoming a book report since these books are so interesting with characters that are not silly idiots. There is a twist that was funny and well done, and that character will be a great addition to the regular cast. 5* Port Alma Murder Mysteries end.
Anne Shillolo has once again proven her mastery in the world of crime thrillers with "Murder At Arrow Pass." A scintillating page-turner, this masterpiece exemplifies the essence of an ideal crime thriller, filled with twists and turns that keep readers enthralled from start to finish.
Inspector Hilary Casgrain and her team are thrust into a riveting series of events, beginning with a catastrophic highway accident at Arrow Pass. As the investigation unfolds, the discovery of dead bodies and missing vehicles intensifies the mystery, leaving little to no clues for the team to decipher.
The pressure mounts as Casgrain realizes a relentless killer is at large, circling and ready to strike again. The narrative weaves a web of violence threatening Elk Ridge's community, drawing readers into a gripping tale that spans from a posh ski resort to the quaint main street, unraveling desperate questions without easy answers.
With a winter storm complicating matters and a seemingly random stabbing at a local establishment, the small-town police department, under Hilary's leadership, faces an array of challenges. As the past casts its ominous shadow, the narrative propels forward, delivering an immersive tale rife with danger and suspense.
Anne Shillolo's expert penmanship shines in this riveting book, skillfully crafting a compelling narrative of suspense, danger, and unrelenting intrigue. "Murder At Arrow Pass" is an exceptional addition to the genre, showcasing Shillolo's prowess in creating an immersive and thrilling crime mystery that readers won't be able to put down.
What a fantastic story! Hilary is facing a multitude of happenings in Arrow Pass. The town is facing a weather crisis, the flu, and not one murder, but two additional murders occurring within a short period of time. While investigating the first murder, Hilary recognizes the criminals from a murder that occurred in Elk Ridge. She informs the Chief of Police in Elk Ridge and he decides to help with the case. Will Hilary be able to handle everything that is happening in Arrow Pass? Will they solve all the murders and capture the felons from Elk Ridge? Join the force as they investigate and arrest the criminals before someone else is killed.
This was such an intriguing story. In my opinion, it had everything I look for in a good mystery. I was hooked from the first page till the last. The characters were will-written, great camaraderie, a determination to solve the crimes, and the dialog between the characters was fantastic. Can’t wait to see what next is in store for Hilary and if a relationship develops with Kendal Hart. Another 5+ stars is deserving.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Get ready for a real roller coaster non-stop ride in this second book in the Inspector Hilary Casgrain Murder Mystery (An Elk Ridge Murder Mystery Book 2)! All I can say is make sure you are ready to read this one straight through since once you begin, there is no way you will want to put it down until the surprising ending. Inspector Casgrain is faced with a blizzard causing a huge multiple car wreck at Arrow Pass which exposes a murder. With many potential suspects, Hilary and her crew still have to be able to piece together the evidence. But then we have even more murders. What is going on? Then she finds there is a couple of cold blooded killers hiding in town. What else? Inspector Casgrain has her work cut out for her before there is even more added to her plate. With so many twists and turns and page turning, you just can't put this book down. I highly recommend this book. Just make sure you can read it in one sitting since you won't want to put it down! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
I am very glad that a was able to read this book in one day! A blizzard hits the town of Elk Ridge & causes havoc & a major traffic jam on the Arrow Pass. As she is going from car to car to tell drivers to turn around & go back to town, Inspector Hilary has to open the car door as there is no response! A dead woman falls out! Then there is another murder with the same method discovered when the snow is being pushed aside. During a run through of the video fro the security camera, Hilary gets a dreadful shock as she notices a couple who are wanted for the murder in Aspen Creek a couple of months ago. So she calls the Chief there & he comes over to help with both the murders & finding this couple. Then there is yet another murder, but, it is only at the funeral service for the first victim that things suddenly click into place for Hilary & her Sergeant. Things get a bit fraught towards the end & not all quite goes to plan.
Exciting Police Work – Multiple Murders This exciting novel is part of a series. As with most series'' the reader will enjoy it more if read in order. But, if a new reader jumps into this book, the author has cleverly added all you need to know, but without the emotional nuances. This story takes place in a Canadian ski town. Like ski towns everywhere, the normal population size easily triples during the winter. Multiple murders keep the entire force on their toes. The police are fighting a ticking clock. Trying to keep the police board happy and trying to keep the population calm. This is part police procedural, part action-adventure. This is a clean mystery with no gore, minimal violence, no sex, or foul language. I love this author's work and highly recomend her other police drama series.
Inspector Hilary Casgrain has her hands full again in Elk Ridge. A massive snow storm hits and causing problems at Arrow Pass with wrecks. When she arrives on the scene she is trying to get people to safety and she opens the door to an Audi and a dead body falls out. Then there are two more homicides and the inspector and her officers are putting together it could be a drug ring. But when she sees the couple that were responsible for a murder in Aspen Creek that she had helped with she calls the Chief of Aspen Creek to come help her.
Lots of twists and turns in this book and it keeps you guessing the whole time about who could be the killer. Loved this book and could be read as a standalone but I think you would enjoy the first book as well.
I received this ARC from the author for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I couldn't put down Murder at Arrow Pass. The police at Elk Ridge offer Hilary a second chance. Can she start over? I was impressed to see Inspector Hilary Cosgrain forge a strong bond with her new team. I didn't miss the hard driving career woman. Hilary has become more approachable and caring. I liked seeing this new side of her personality. The new case is puzzling. The killer is meticulously and deadly. The twists were shocking and kept me off balance. I couldn't understand the killer 's motivation. Anne Shillolo made me look deeper into the characters and consider what lead them down their current path to destruction. This book is excellent. The mystery is perplexing and it's filled with characters that I care about. I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
Oh my, what a wonderful book! I adore this series, where each book is so well executed that it is a complete stand-alone. However, you do not want to miss any of the character and interpersonal relationship developments that occur in the first book; besides, the first book is a stellar read as well. I have fallen in love with the town of Elk Ridge and many of its inhabitants. Ann Shillillo has created a wonderful cast headed by Inspector Casgrain and her team, their board of directors, business owners, and the town newspaper editor, among others. This book starts out at high speed and continues to the end. It will keep you guessing, and maybe one of those guesses will be right at the end.
I was a bit sad to finish this book since it is noted as a three-book series. I received an ARC, and I am leaving my own thoughts without influence from the author or publisher.
Just finished Murder at Arrow Pass. I love the characters. It is really great to have a police station where the officers all work together. Living in a cold, snowy area myself, I can appreciate the weather. It was an exciting story and I was caught off guard by the ending. This mystery starts with a seemingly unrelated road rage issue. Then the snow arrives and all officers are out doing road patrol. The first and 2nd bodies are both unexpected. It is all hands on deck to sort out what has happened. Do they have a serial killer? Even a nice tie in with the original book. All of the officers are well trained and do their jobs efficiently. They are a diverse group with different personalities and lifestyles. Most of the town people are also quite diverse. I enjoyed the book and found it to be a good sequel to the previous two.
I loved this book so much I couldn’t put it down and Dino send in the wee hours the next day! I received this book from the author as an ARC member and this is my honest review. Ms. Shillolo has done it again. This book was exciting from the first chapter to the last one. An alleged stolen parking space is followed by multiple murders which may or may not be related. Add a few stolen vehicles, stolen license plates, a major snowstorm causing a big pileup, and an illness that is contagious and you see why Inspector Hilary Casgrain and her police department have their hands full. despite all the action there were also a few times when I chuckled out loud. The story line is well developed and many of the characters are endearing. I highly recommend this author and this book!
Inspector Hilary Casgrain leads a small town police force in Elk Ridge, British Columbia. In this book they have to deal with a major snowstorm, a series of murders and the sighting of some fugitives wanted in another province. With the crimes , the suspects and the clues adding up Hilary and her team have their hands full. With a few well placed twists and ties to a death from five years ago, the author has created a book that is hard to put down. I am enjoying how the characters work as a team and how we are learning more about them as this series progresses. The exciting action and solid police work make this a series worth reading. I received an arc copy of this book and this is my freely offered and honest review
Another brilliant Inspector Hilary Casgrain thriller. There’s always so much going on to keep you totally engrossed. Anne cleverly weaves the different cases & characters together. And then throws in a high speed chase across the snow! Both perpetrators of a murder & the Chief from Aspen Creek come to Elk Ridge. The Elk Ridge team work well together & get to grips with issues. Hilary is even getting on with Goat. There are several heroes. And confessions. In the end it’s the Aspen Creek Chief who saves another murder from taking place (& a bullet proof vest). I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author. I am writing a voluntary honest review
I really enjoyed this fast paced complicated murder mystery in a small ski resort town. The author masterfully painted a movie like pictures of wintry mountain town and the dedicated and intelligent police department with the combination of youthful cops and seasoned senior officers. The twists and turns of the story kept me on my toes until the very last page. I really like the main character inspector Hilary, she is tough and smart and devoted all her life to her career, but she is not superwoman, I appreciate the author's effort to show us a more realistic heroine, with her lonely life and self doubt and plenty of vulnerable moments.
Inspector Hilary Casgrain is back but this is a new, kinder Hilary. Having left her previous job under a cloud, where she knew she was feared and disliked, she is determined to be a better leader. Following her experience with Chief Kendal Hart in Aspen Creek, Hilary has decided that she wants to be as liked and respected by her new team as he is. And it seems to be working. Which is a good thing with the unexpectedly violent happenings in Elk Ridge. We have the snow storm of the century, stabbings, shootings and the pace really hots up when the killer or killers turn their attention to the team.
I love Anne Shillolo’s books. Her descriptions of the life style and sheer beauty of Canada are second to none. I really like the new Hilary and her team and how they all work together, rookies, civilians and experienced police officers, we get to know and like them all and more importantly care what happens to them. Amid the murder and mayhem, Anne usually manages to throw in a hint of romance to lighten the atmosphere.
This is a fast paced, easy to read book and I found it hard to put down. The tension builds as the bodies pile up and Hilary is in a race against time to stop the killer before the killer strikes closer to home.
Inspector Hilary Casgrain is at her new post as Police Inspector of the small Elk Ridge law enforcement branch. She’s once again working with Goat Rundle, an officer from her past, when a serious winter storm causes a multi-vehicle pile up in the pass. While checking out the cars, she discovers the dead body of Cissie, someone her officers has been loosely keeping tabs on for a drug case. Then a local bar owner discovers a dead body in his parking lot while shoveling snow - and Hilary has her hands full! An engaging murder mystery, which I received a free advance copy of, that will surely keep your interest! I enjoyed it and write this review voluntarily
Murder At Arrow Pass: An Inspector Hilary Casgrain Murder Mystery (An Elk Ridge Murder Mystery Book 2)
This is book 2 in the series and can be read as a stand-alone book. There is no need to read these books in order but each book builds on the previous book in the way the interactions between the characters are portrayed. This is a crime mystery book, with the main focus on Inspector Hilary Casgrain and her team of co-workers, both civilian and police officers and their efforts to catch the bad guys. This task is made more difficult as they are all part of a small community in a region that attracts lots of visitors with a ski resort, hot springs and many other tourist attractions. A great read which had me engaged to find out how the story ends.
How many crimes can happen in a couple of weeks and are they all connected? This is what Hillary and her team have to figure out. Hillary is becoming closer to her team and watching all of their developments is part of what makes this series great. Which each book all of the characters are becoming more and more like friends I know. Ms. Shiloh's character development is excellent. The mystery moves quickly and you will find yourself saying just one more chapter. I can't wait for Hillary's next adventure.
Hilary Cargrain of Elk Ridge PD has a lot of problems as violence escalates after the pile up on the roads due to the bad weather. She suspects Cassie Booth to be the instigator. Then Hilary finds Cassie's lifeless body in a silver Audi . Another body that of Harrison Skinner turns up at the Grizzly Grill. There are some fugitives from old cases to deal with too. A exciting read with a lot of twists and turns. I enjoyed the book and received a ARC copy. I leave a honest review and recommend this book to other readers
This second book in this series is a very good follow up to Murder at Elk Ridge! The characterization is so well done and the character growth, both individually and as a team, is a standout feature so far in the series. There’s plenty of intrigue surrounding the crimes and the victims to hold your interest, but the methodical investigation into the string of seemingly unrelated murders is what really holds your attention. This is a very well crafted police procedural that keeps you glued to the pages to the very end!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The characters are realistic and the story moves right along-keeping you guessing along the way. There are plenty of suspects for three murders. This is the second book in the series but this could be read as a standalone. If you haven’t read the first by all means after you finish this one, go back and read book 1. I hope that there are more follow up books in this series. Disclosure: A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
Inspector Hilary Casgrain is getting to know her new team, and starting to enjoy the peace of small town life. But peace doesn't last for very long. In the second of the Elk Ridge Murder Mysteries, Hilary has barely had time to recover from her first murder case than she's thrown straight into another one. And another. Then figures from her recent past reappear - both good ones and bad. And as the tempo speeds up, the weather and the scenery become characters in their own right once again. Another enthralling story from Anne Shillolo. Highly recommended for lovers of the cozy crime genre.
This gripping police procedural had everything from a great snow storm that caused a catastrophic pileup, lots of action, several homicides, twists and turns with Inspector Hilary Casgrain leading her small town police department. Ms. Shillolo has given us a must-read book that you just can't put down and I was turning the pages as fast as I could to see what was going to happen next. Can't wait to see what's in store for Hilary and her team next. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I was astonished at the ending of this story. I can't go into details without spoiling the ending. This story shows how frustrating police investigations are.
This is about the third book I have read by Anne Shillole. These stories don't have to be read in order, because each story stands alone. Each story is better than the previous one I read.
I am hoping that Ms. Shillolo will write a prequel that explains more about the main character, Hillary Crasgain before moving to Elk Ridge.
In the midst of a severe winter storm, a killer is raining terror on their cozy mountain town. Inspector Hilary Casgrain’s discovery of a corpse is the start of a series of challenging cases for the police. Old threats bring new danger. What is the connection?
This thriller takes you on a ride from beginning to end. It’s an engrossing, suspenseful page-turner. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
An absolutely superb mystery that drew me in and enthralled me from start to finish. A brilliant plot with subtle clues throughout the investigation which leave you anxious to solve the mystery, The investigation appears to be wrapped up, but an unexpected twist reveals new evidence. A fabulous mystery with a touch of romance.
This is the second book I’ve read in this series by Anne Shillilo and highly recommend her books. As a mystery lover, you won’t be disappointed.
I read this book as part of an advance reader team and am providing my honest opinion.
