With stories of hysterical teenagers and obsessive fans killing for their heroes, fans and fandom get a bad press. The Adoring Audience looks deeper into fan culture, particularly as it relates to identity, sexuality and textual production.
An interesting read for everyone involved in the fan community... actually, an interesting read for those who are NOT involved in the fan community but would be interested in learning more about fan culture, away from the many stereotypes that the media usually like to promote.
a collection of great, insightful essays and analyses that are still relevant today, and would be enriched by more contemporary readings on the phenomenon of fan culture and fandom
Great insights into the group dynamics of 'fans'. For some people the TV show just isn't allowed to end with the rolling credits. Interesting how far some people will go to live in their fictional world of choice. Sadly, this book represents some very dry reading, you have to work for it, which is a shame as academic books don't have to be a dull read.
