Gruffyd has trained his whole life to be an archer. As unrest looms over England and Wales, he must prove his own worth.

PRAISE FOR GRIFF

‘Medieval adventure with the pace and power of a war arrow in flight.’ Matthew Harffy, bestselling author of the Bernicia Chronicles

'From the first page to the last, Lord Edward’s Archer grabbed me and did not let go. Hosker’s depiction of life and struggled in that slice of early English history is real, brutal and utterly captivating.' Eric Schumacher, award-winning historical fiction author of Hakon’s Saga

BOOK 1: LORD EDWARD’S ARCHER
Welsh border, 13th century. In a realm brimming with fierce determination and relentless ambition, young Gruffyd and his father are employed by a castle on the dangerous borderlands. When his lord commits a grievous act, Gruffyd is confronted with a life-altering decision. His choices will lead him from avenging outlaw to merchant’s bodyguard to, finally, the captain of archers for the heir to the throne.

BOOK 2: KING IN WAITING
England, 1264. Simon de Montfort defeats and captures King Henry III of England at the Battle of Lewes to become de facto ruler of the country. Step forward Gruffyd, now known as Gerald War Bow, a superb archer and a committed servant of Lord Edward – the real heir to King Henry’s throne. As the royalists face de Montfort’s army, Gerald knows that the future of his country – and his own life – lie in the balance.

BOOK 3: AN ARCHER’S CRUSADE
As the battle of Evesham fades, Gerald War Bow claims a manor. But an archer's duty knows no respite. Lord Edward relentlessly pursues Simon de Montfort's remnants, extinguishing rebels up and down the country. But the rebel leaders resist capture. Enter Pope Adrian V, stepping forward to aid Lord Edward's cause. In exchange for his help, Gerald pledges to join the Crusades with King Louis IX of France. Can Gerald and his men survive unscathed, and will his efforts help to turn the war?

BOOK 4: TARGETS OF TREACHERY
Captain Gerald has proven himself an unrivalled archer. Now married, Gerald looks forward to raising a family and tending his land. But life on the borderlands comes with complications, and Kind Edward has different ideas for Gerald. Chosen as royal envoy, Gerald must cross the treacherous Welsh Marches to make strategic allegiances and request Prince Llywelyn bend the knee to the English crown. Can he help wrest power back into English hands before Welsh forces descend on all he holds dear?

BOOK 5: THE GREAT CAUSE
Gerald has devoted his life to the service of King Edward. As he prepares to pass the torch to his eldest son, he’s once again called into action. The mysterious death of King Alexander of Scotland, and subsequent questions of succession, have plunged the nation into turmoil. In Wales, trouble still abounds. And as discontent threatens to spill over on several fronts, Gerald must assemble his team and once again fight in the name of King Edward.

Don’t miss out on this series of utterly gripping historical thrills and adventures.

Well written

Wonderful to read a well researched series of novels. The characters are true to life and accurately reflect the actual people portrayed within. By the time I had finished book 5 I was ready for book 6!

I’m sorry to see the saga end!

I chose this series of books on a whim, as I love historical fiction & frequently escape to the 12th & 13th centuries. Mr. Hosker has provided a magic carpet to transport me to the Welsh marches, via the Holy Land! These five novels tell the story of Gerald War Bow, a fugitive archer as he seeks to evade capture & find his fortune. The people he meets along the way like Ahmed, the Mongol, Maria, the beautiful slave, Hamo the warrior all bring peril & adventure to Gerald’s life. Gerald’s skill as an archer & character as an honorable man tie his fortunes to none less Lord Edward, future King. I was very sorry to see the saga end!

Exciting historical fiction

This Arthur has an amazing power of description. These books contain a lot of detail, but it is written in such an exciting Style that it is never boring. There's a lot of action, a tremendous amount of fighting, Warfare and killing. Each book is more exciting than the last. In book 5 he paints William Wallace as a completely different person than was shown in the movie Braveheart. I was actually sorry when I finished the last book. I hope there are more to follow.

Never a dull moment with War bow

When you get near to the end of reading five books, you either are pleased to reach the end or disappointed that the lead character has called it a day !! For me personally, Gerald War Bow puts modern day Super heroes in the shade, the character was well written and the stories so well told, his humility and frankness was a joy to read, great author and well.written subject, mind at times you could have slapped Edward. Thank you, totally enjoyed the characters and the story

Good historical read. Encourages one to continue on to books 6 thro 9 in the series. Not knowing an awful lot about this period of English history it gives the reader a fairly good insight into the hardships of being a King's soldier in that day. It was not a life for the faint hearted and injury ( due to medical practice of the day) could lead to a life even more harsh when abandoned by the Kings army due to unfittness. Highly recommended set of books for any history buff or enjoyer of Medieval conflict.

Read them all in one.

I loved this set of books because I have long been interested in the times in which they are set, and sometimes this author blended his characters with the real world had me scurrying to actual histories, to check; skillfully merged, with great fictional figures, I ate my way through them!
Damn good entertainment from which, if you are not familiar with the times of Edward Warbow you may learn quite a bit, too.

I came to this series with some misgivings as far too much of recent historical diction is poorly written. This series is not great literature but it is a fast-paced and varied yarn with a near-believable, staggeringly lucky protagonist. It covers a period in history which is not often written about and has a wealth of life-style detail which fleshes it out. So, not Bernard Cornwell but I still give it 5 stars in its genre of escapist fiction.

I truly enjoyed this series. The author, Griff Hosker, is a great story teller and while focusing primarily on the main character (Lord Edward's archer), he mixes it great with historical events. The writing is great for the historical period, the characters well developed, and all in all a great author! I am an avid reader of historical fiction, and I would STRONGLY recommend this author and this series. Looking forward to the next installements.

These five books were hard to put down.

I liked the fighting action and the hero Gerald War bow was a larger than life big strong Jack Reacher type character. He was incredibly smart, honest, and a great teacher and leader of his warriors. He had a great love for his wife Mary and was true to her always. It was very well written also. Good reading.

I kept waiting for the story

I wandered through at least 300 pages without finding the actual story. Paging forward I made it through another100 pages and just gave up. If there's a story here I couldn't find it.
I downloaded the series but I'm deleting it in its entirety because it's just boring to me.

Great story very well told.

The story revealed a simple way of life and the danger of the times just to survive. The good and strong character of the archer was the center point of his life and held in good stead with all the situations. I enjoy this book and have recommended to many.

Good plots but egotistical

Book starts well but very much the accomplished hero in first tense with an endless string of self appreciation and victories becomes repetitive. I gave up after first book as far from gripping

Thrilling Flight of fiction.

A great story of a character who you so want to be real rather than fictional. Almost too good to be true at times but nevertheless an unmissable read.

A tale of the longbow

It has been a while since I have found a series of books that I have been reluctant to put down. This set really entertained me. Griff Hosker is a new author to me, but I will now be searching for more of his works.

Fine historical fiction

I believe the author provides a good description of what life in 13th century England was like. The characters and their interactions are credibly written.
