I enjoyed reading about my hometown, Burkburnett. This book was written by my Burkburnett High School World History Teacher Minnie Benton. I enjoyed reading about Burk Burnett whose 6666 Horse Ranch house headquarters (which burned in 1937) was on Wild Horse Creek which is now part of my parents' ranch where I grew up. Also I liked reading about the discovery of oil, and the Burk-Waggnor Oil Company, and the famous Texas Chief Oil Well which was on our place too. There were hundreds of oil derricks on our place in 1919. But my Dad did not buy this property until 1955. The mineral rights were held onto by the many previous owners. Luckily the derricks are all gone except there are still 5 pumping jacks on our place. Sadly Wild Horse Creek was polluted by the oil, and only minnows live there.
