Animal Castle Vol. 2 picks up shortly after the events of Vol. 1 with Miss B trying to convince the animals not to give in to violence in order to put an end to Silvio's reign... At the castle, the dictatorship continues. Thanks to the efforts of Miss B and her friends, the animals attempt remobilize the pacifist movement of the Daisies. But Silvio the bull dictator is trying to keep them under his hoof to keep his power. Helped by his cruel canine militia, he decides to have the rebellious animals imprisoned in the dungeon. But Miss B and her friends will respond once again with trickery...and solidarity!

Xavier Dorison est né en 1972 à Paris et passe trois années en école de commerce, où il organise le festival BD des Grandes Écoles, puis travaille chez Barclays Corp. Dès 1997, il écrit le premier tome du Troisième Testament, série co-scénarisé et dessiné par Alex Alice qui remporte un succès immédiat. Il publie ensuite deux séries aux Humanoïdes Associés : Prophet avec Matthieu Lauffray et Sanctuaire avec Christophe Bec. Il co-scénarise, avec Fabien Nury, le film Brigades du Tigre, qui sera également adapté en bande dessinée aux éditions Glénat avec Jean-Yves Delitte au dessin. Il co-scénarise, toujours avec Fabien Nury, le western fantastique W.E.S.T. mis en image par Christian Rossi. Et lance début 2007 une fresque pirate : Long John Silver. En 2008, il crée la série Les Sentinelles et participe au projet XIII Mystery, en scénarisant l'album sur La Mangouste. En 2008 également, il écrit Le Syndrome d'Abel pour son comparse Marazano, de retour au dessin. En septembre 2010, il s’associe à nouveau avec Alex Alice et commence la publication de l’antésuite du Troisième Testament, intitulée Julius, toujours chez Glénat. En mars 2012, paraît chez Dargaud le premier tome d’Asgard, série dans l’univers des vikings, dessinée par Ralph Meyer. En 2013 paraîtra chez Glénat une série coécrite avec son frère Guillaume Dorison.

Animal Castle will be on my Best Reads of 2023 this year, so I was excited to see a preview of Volume Two. We get a look into President Silvo’s early life, and despite him being subjugated as a young ox and enduring the death of his mother, we know he still turns into an evil tyrant himself. Will the Mama Cat find the courage to lead a revolt?

Ricominciamo da poco dopo il finale del vol.1, e per la miseria se gli standard rimangono ALTISSIMI. Un'integrazione sublime tra compartimento artistico e narrativo, una tavolozza di colori che sembra di potere allungare la mano e accarezzare questi animali che hanno il giusto di umanizzazione per portare avanti la storia ma senza cadere nella loro snaturalizzazione.
Non c'è un solo momento di noia, le caratterizzazioni sono intense, è una storia così avvolgente da voler esserne parte.

Art is still stunning, story needs more space than 20-odd pages to unfold into this second act.

And that's why you shouldn't transfer BD formats in the standard american issue, it steals much from the art (due to much smaller size), the dialogues and fonts are cramped and the story can't breathe if you break each album into 2-3 issues.

5/5 for the exquisite art
2/5 for the story that seems to stall a bit

Doesn’t really add that much

to Orwell, based on the excerpt here anyway- though it’s been years since I’ve read that. (And Orwell had been , arguably still was even when he wrote these more famous novels, a socialist, who’d fought with the Republicans in Spain against Franco…)

Good color artwork.. A dystopian world where animals inherit a castle. What is the future of a republic. Equally and Freedom are words.
