FMC with no backbone or sense of self preservation

I downloaded book 2 after struggling through book 1. At the start of this book, the FMC has just conveniently left the house as the MMC realizes his son has been kidnapped. He refuses to believe her when she denies any involvement and proceeds to threaten to kill her and her friends. Somehow, the author thinks this is the perfect time for a round of angry sex in which he literally forces her into a panic attack and then tells her he wishes she were dead during it. What parent wouldn't want to bang the person they believe is responsible for their child's kidnapping, am I right? Anywho, we go through a few more chapters of him terrorizing her and thinking out loud about how he should just kill her before finding out she's pregnant and realizing it's improbable she was involved. He tells her he believes her alibi and she sighs in relief and joy and is completely like "no worries babe". He feels a fleeting sense of remorse for putting his hands on her and threatening her, but is perfectly content allowing her to apologize for putting herself in a position where he would think the worst and continues his high handed behavior like business as usual. He's told his original kid is likely dead by now, which triggers the typical caveman thinking associated with the "alphahole who's lost a lot finds out woman he wronged is pregnant" cliche. In the backdrop of this, we sprinkle in some friend group drama. The crap druggie friend from book 1 has now suddenly gotten it together enough to be the supportive friend, and the supportive friend from book 1 is found out to be involved in the kidnapping. The FMC, who is a social worker that never goes to work and is somehow able to take her boyfriend on home visits when she does, continues to be tricked and manipulated by her friend like she's 5 much to the chagrin of the MMC. This leads to her sneaking away to try to talk sense into her friend and being inadvertently hit in her stomach for her troubles. A repeating storyline in both books is the FMC putting herself in direct danger because she is willfully ignorant to a lot of obvious signs of danger and deception. Her gullible nature with people and response to stressful situations makes it impossible to see her as a believable social worker, although I may be biased as one myself. It may also have to do with unbelievable plan she initially had to kidnap the original child in order to take him to CPS and prove the MMC to be unfit. That is not how it works, social workers do not literally kidnap children and no one would come up with that idea. There is one moment of clarity where she realizes she's doing the most for a random child on her caseload and doesn't want to risk her life, but that is quickly overcome and she's back to Mission Impossible. This book is basically trying to force the reader to like the MMC by painting everyone else as just as toxic and crazy as him without any actual growth on his part. No one ever tells him no or makes him see the error of his ways. He is always one step ahead of the FMC, waiting to swoop in and talk down on her for being gullible. Yuck.

I want to reclaim my time

I read this because I like to finish what I start but this was a tough cookie to swallow. Those 5 star ratings were highly embellished. The leading lady is naive and makes one dumb decision after the next. The leading male was one big contradiction. For instance, he loved his son and would do anything for him. Yet when something happens to the boy, he very loosely try to solve the problem. He rather chase tail from one country to the next wasting time. There was several instances where the storyline did not remotely make sense. If you are going to have random villains then at least lay some bread crumbs or something to make it a tad relatable. It was like pockets of forced confusion. Needless to say this book annoyed me greatly.

“I do wish you were dead. Because if you were dead, maybe the ache of wanting you will go away.”

This is the final book in the duet, so you need to read the first book before picking up this one. It continues directly from where the last book left off, so I can't reveal too much. For the most part, I enjoyed it, but I preferred the first book. I struggled with Benjamin being more of an object in the first book, and by the end of this one, I still felt the same. I found myself getting frustrated with Timofey, who was so angry with Piper, yet would still turn around and sleep with her. HELLO?! Someone has been kidnapped and it’s a very pressing matter. A significant portion of this book was spent trying to get answers out of the FMC, Piper, while simultaneously hate-banging her. Hate to break it to you, but this is not helping you find what's been taken any faster. Overall, it was a good read, but it fell a little flat because I was frustrated with how certain parts were written."

Whiskey Pain picks directly up from where book 1 left off. And the action and suspense that we got in book 1 doesn’t stop! It’s non stop. After book 1, I wasn’t a huge fan of Piper’s. But my opinion changed drastically in book 2, right away I began liking her, then I was starting to get annoyed with her because she kept putting herself in danger and wouldn’t listen to Timofey. But then almost instantly, and after having a wide wake up call and realization that Timofey was right, I liked her again! I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the suspense, so I’m just going to say that this duet is a MUST READ! Nicole once again brought us an addicting, suspenseful and action packed mafia romance! I devoured book 1 in a day, and book 2 in a couple hours! I couldn’t put either down for a second! I’m so excited to see what Nicole brings us next.

Review for the duet:

This was one of the most back and forth stories of Fox’s that I have ever read. And sometimes only seconds would pass for my feelings to change. All it took was Timofey to open his big, fat mouth to turn my hope for him and Piper to ash. I loved him one second only to hate him the next. And Piper was no different. She couldn’t make up her mind to save her life. Escape, stay. Escape, stay. Which one is it going to be?

But honestly, I loved every single second of it. I loved the fast pacing of the story. The unpredictableness (that’s a word right?) of it all. I loved seeing this rough and tough, heartless Don fall for his woman. The kind of fall he never knew was taking place and still wanted to end the world just to have her. This book had me in it’s grip the entire read. A total head spin of a story. An absolute heart wrenching tale.

Fox really showed up and showed out in this duet. Twisting what I thought would happen into something so much more. 5 Stars.

Let Down

Spoiler Alert!
This book is the second book in a two-part series. It was a disappointment for me. The first book began with a decent story but then the two-main characters kept repeating the same failed choices over and over again. Way before the end of the book I knew what its conclusion would be and I didn’t care anymore. It felt as though an AI bot had been given a fill-in the blanks template and then it created a book. The whole plot from the beginning of the first book to the end of the second could have been condensed to one short book.

Part of the Viktorov Bratva the saga continues right from where book one left off so, hang on and double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! CAN’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED!!!!! Piper still being hardheaded, does the opposite of what Timofey tells her to do of course driving him crazy with the need to keep her safe but with her throwing herself directly in the path of danger without regards for herself but then again, she is a mama looking for her lost baby but that doesn’t excuse some of her actions. Eventually, a hardhead makes a soft a** or in her case makes her realize Timofey was/is correct. Timofey sexy as all get out overprotective, still just as ruthless and even more deadly especially while looking for his child while thinking or wondering if Piper had something to do with their child’s disappearances and willing to do whatever it takes to find their child all while trying to keep her safe all while trying to be the don but with snakes like his adoptive father being his evil self, trying to make sure his girl doesn’t get hurt since she continues to see the good in everyone, will he be able to bring everyone under control to work together hoping they will see they are stronger together than alone, did they find their boy, who took him, why did they take him, and can they find the happiness together as a family?.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 2 & the end of the Viktorov Bratva Duet. It is not a standalone. The book's blurb gives you a good idea of what to expect. The intensity of Whiskey Poison continues & will keep you guessing what happened to Benjamin. It's a great conclusion to Piper & Timofey's story.

Just like in Whiskey Poison, Piper continues to try & protect those she cares about. While her actions may not be the wisest & lead her to trouble more times than not, her protective nature stays strong. &, as she accepts her feelings for Timofey & the situation that they find themselves in, she tries to give Timofey the support that he doesn't ask for but needs.

With Benjamin missing, now more than ever, Timofey will stop at nothing to get him back & take revenge on those who took him away. He hates Piper for thinking that she could be involved somehow yet he doesn't get rid of her right away. As he determines whether she's telling the truth or not, he finds himself wanting Piper's words to be true.

If Whiskey Poison made you feel their dislike & frustration towards each other, then you will certainly enjoy it even more here. This time around Piper is the one who doesn't really hate Timofey for his actions while he holds Benjamin's disappearance against her. There won't be a second where you are bored as you wait to see how Piper finds trouble & what trouble comes Timofey's way. Everything was neatly resolved & it was a great way to end this duet.

MMC, Don Timofey Viktorov
FMC, Piper Quinn

Suicidal ideation is spoken about in this book so please check your trigger warnings

Book 2 picks up right where book one left off. This book is pretty fast paced. The truth of who kidnaps baby Benjamin is revealed. The killer of Emily is also revealed. It happens pretty early on in the book so you don’t have to wait until the end for the pieces to fall into place. This book is a roller coaster of emotions for sure.

Timofey’s capability of being the CEO of Viktorov Industries is questioned and his duty to be the Don of his Bravta is on the line all because of his adoptive father being a snake in the grass with his hidden agendas.

Piper seriously does not grow any common sense until the last 25% of the book. Her character is the most naïve character I’ve read about in a while. She continues to try to see the good in certain people and that is one of her biggest downfalls. Her feelings get hurt each and every time.

Noelle is is such a selfish snake. Ashley is not as bad as I thought she was. Grams is also not as bad as I thought she was. Both Ashley and Grams are just misguided dealing with their own demons. Under their selfishness is a heart.

Wow... Best... Perfect... Awesome
The author nailed it and I was completely in love with how she made the further movie without boring me. I almost lived inside the book and felt the pain the main leads go through. One thing that I completely understood from this book is that, don't believe everything that your eyes sees and definitely there's more to it. After a long time I almost highlighted the whole book, truly because all the scenes felt like my favourite and had to be painted with nice bright colours. Loved it.

My eyes widened while I had to read an encounter between Piper and Timofey. The hidden love both these characters hold for each other was truly adorable of them. She loves him like anything, would never be able to loose him but won't accept. He knows only he will be there for he till the end, but won't agree.

When they confessed, I understood they were the best couple and I would cherish them in my heart.

In the bonus, Ashley's wedding (She's Piper's bestie) was something I didn't expect but wished it would happen with Akim.

Also, I have an erge to know more Rodion. I feel like I haven't gotten enough of Emily and Rodion.

Thanks for this incredible ARC @nicolefoxromance
And @booksprout I am happy to have gotten the opportunity to review yet another Mob Romance with an unique plotline.

Whiskey Pain picks up right where we left off in Whiskey Poison and runs away with your heart in your chest. It sinks it to your stomach because you don't know what will happen next. Suspense, action, and some spicy scenes are always a win win in my book. Oh wait...and some murder along the way!!

I really enjoyed the conclusion of this duet. I was so sad to finish it but I was satisfied by the way things turned out. This was definitely a roller coaster of action and kept me in suspense enough to keep me hooked on reading till the end.

Once again we e have our amazing character and you get to see more of the side characters, like Ash, Gram, Akim, and even Sergey. I wish we could have seen more about Gram towards the end so that it would have tied up loose ends for her while storyline, but what bit we got of her I really enjoyed.

Even through the trials, tribulations, and searches going on in the book my heart still felt all the emotions when it came to Piper and Timofey. All the love and so much more between them really got me in my feels.

This was really good. I was really excited to read this book and see what happened after the cliffhanger, and the author almost reached my expectations. Honestly, I wished there was more grovelling from Timofey, but he didn't pull an Alex Volkov on Piper. I really wanted to see him at least apologise to Piper for not believing her, but I guess the apology sex was hot enough for Piper to forgive him anyway.

Another thing I wanted to see was more Akim, but we were robbed of his absolute brilliance and comedy too. Akim was literally my favorite character and I was dying to read more of what he was getting up to in this book, but we didn't get to see him cooking, making dirty jokes, or even sassing the hell out of Timofey.

I also wish there was more of a connection with Benjamin. We didn't get to see Piper and Timofey interact with the baby as much as they should have so that we could have cared for him. I honestly couldn't care less if they found him or not. And I'm a huge sucker for a good mafia/bratva single daddy don. But the author didn't create a connection to Benjamin for the readers.

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy!

I ate up this book so fast - it was just so incredible. I read it in one sitting and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. after finishing book one, Whiskey Poison, i just had to know exactly what happened next- especially with Benjamin gone! I spent the entire time just waiting for all the pain to end, just waiting for everything to be alright for Timofey, Piper and Benjamin. I just wanted them to be alive, unhurt and have all their problems solved. This book definitely pulled on my heartstrings at certain stages, I was honestly just so consumed by this story. this was such a perfect conclusion for Timofey and Piper's duet, I loved that this book kind of tore them down to basically their barest selves, allowing them to see how much devotion and confidence they had for each other. I certainly recommend giving this duet a read it is just frankly immaculate.

Jeez, I got whiplash with this one. Be aware this is not a standalone and it is absolutely necessary to have read Book 1 as this one picks up exactly where Whiskey Poison left off.

Baby Benjamin is missing and Timofey suspects Piper has abducted him to 'safety' as she has threatened to do. Timofey is hell bent on getting them both back, with potential consequences for Piper's betrayal.

It can't be denied that this was a page turner but did I fully believe either characters or really engage with the plot twists? No.

Timofey is the strangest Pakhan, all talk little action in my view and Piper - whom I'd quite engaged with in book 1, starting to irritate the hell out of me.

Ms Fox can write and write well, her dealing with Piper's claustrophobia was poignant stuff, I just found some parts very disconnected and the characters difficult to engage with.

Would this put me off Nicole Fox? Hell no!

This duet just didn't hit my sweet spot- as her others have done.

Okay... continued from book one. I loved the storyline. Missing baby, Timofey on the rampage, his father taunting him and the head of the Albanians reigning revenge. Again, it was difficult to like Piper. One minute she would promise one thing and then the next minute she would turn right around and run and break that promise. That got old and a bit frustrating. One minute she had faith in Timofey and the next she did not. She was impulsive, confused on what was a real relationship was and would change directions like a leaf in the breeze. There was plenty of action, revenge and danger. Like I said a good storyline I just could not figure out Piper and why she was the way she was to everyone but Timofey who deserved her true attention.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed
Happily Ever After
Page-turner
Steamy
Unpredictable.

As expected this was a perfect ending to the Duet.
It started off right where it ended at in Whiskey Poison.
Timofey is on the hunt for Piper because he wants both her and Benjamin back. Only problem is Piper doesn't have him!!!

This book was constantly on the go from the start, so no chance of taking a break from it once you start. You must be prepared lol.
It was a page turner, as the need to know what happens next is urgent.
They both go through a lot and the emotional roller coaster.
Piper has her fault to trust easily which does cause her to be in positions she could have avoided. Which was her downside.
But then again the plot required her naivety for it to continue.
We get to meet more of the extended family and friends.
Which was nice.
But who has Benjamin? Why is Timofey's work and financial life is suddenly in trouble?
Can they work together and work out their differences?
This was fast paced, Suspense, deceit, murder, action, chemistry Spice and love.

Excellent Duet, although it puts your heart through so much it was worth it.

This author seems to be unduly long winded with all her books, going off on a tangent; but this second instalment seems to have lost the plot completely and the character's have definitely lost their purpose. After finding Benjamin kidnapped, Timothey immediately thinks Piper is involved. What follows is twenty odd chapters of him flying to Mexico and threatening her grandma and best friend, before he and Piper make up and have sex in a hotel for a couple of days with no concern whatsover for kidnapped Benjamin who incidentally is still in his hometown in America, the plot is so outrageously ridiculous, more for the point that Timothey is portrayed as the man who doesn't think twice about killing men who harm him, but he leaves his son and goes on a wild goose chase after Piper which really isn't relevant to the plot. It feels like the author brained dumped an awful lot of random plot lines, and tried to hash them together to make a second book but it really didn't work. Shame as the first book was quite good.

Whiskey Pain

This book picks up exactly where book 1 left off. It is non stop action. Timothey is hunting down Piper because he believes she stole Benjamin. He tracks her to Mexico where she shipped her family after he threatened them. Piper is strong and she has done everything she could for those she considered family. One of her friends betrays her and Timothey threatens to end it all for her. They go on an adventure to find their son, Benjamin. It all tied up nicely in the end. Their relationship developed even further and they discovered new secrets that changes the life as they know it.

This book was really good and I definitely enjoyed it. It is like every other Nicole Fox book in the sense that man becomes possessive over woman and she fights it all. Then drama from all sides tries to break them apart but they persevere to eventually get their HEA. This book didn’t have nearly as much spice as book 1 but the spice was still good.

Talk about trust issues! Piper and Timofey cannot seem to get on the same page! Piper was quick to storm off at the end of the first book, and Timofey was quick to believe that Piper would kidnap Benjamin knowing how she felt about him. Once Piper finds out that Benjamin has been kidnapped and Timofey believes she is behind it – she is on the run to protect her family. Finding out that your friend is not really a friend and would kidnap a child and hand over to Timofey’s enemies is a blow to Piper.

While Timofey is fighting with himself over his feelings for Piper – one minute he wants her, the next she wishes she was dead; Piper is keeping a secret from Timofey. Will Timofey and Piper ever be able to learn to trust each other? It’s a roller coaster ride and you don’t know who is on your side – there is lots of deception, lies, secrets, and surprises! Superbly done conclusion to Timofey and Piper's story! This one was more emotional than the first book but still had all the action and suspense to keep you glued to the pages.

Poor Piper, all she wants to do is help everyone but she just gets the shaft everytime. I liked that even with all that going on Piper stayed true to who she really was and even got stronger and more empowered to stand up for herself.

I really enjoyed Timofey in this book. He was more emotional and relatable. Still the imposing Don but also just a guy going through a bad time. Realizing that he made mistakes and now must fix them.

This was a very fast paced book. I tried to savior it but flew through it. The twists kept me hooked and I couldn't put it down, especially when the action went right up until the very end. These books don't drag that's for sure! I loved the extended epilog to wrap everything up. I like how thorough it was for everyone. Fantastic story that I would highly recommend!

Whiskey Pain
Viktorov Bratva - Book #2
By Nicole Fox

One thing I love about Nicole Fox is that she always starts right where we left off!

The other thing she often does is double up on the action, the lies, the suspense, which often includes some kind of treachery or back stabbing and the steam….I know that it is going to become hot and steamy and I want to be there to see, in this case Piper and Timofey battle it out!

I was not let down…the action, the lies the backstabbing kept the pages flipping quickly and the steam and attraction brought these two together. It was together they needed to fight their way through the betrayal and this is where I say it was the betrayal of the worst kind!

Whiskey Pain was witty, packed with action and you could have heard a pin drop when the lies were uncovered and the truth’s were told.

As always, I couldn’t put this one down so yes, late night reading happened, but hey it’s always happens when one has a good book in hand!

Whiskey Pain kicks off right where Book 1 left me slightly hanging.
And... Let me tell you it's a wild ride.
The action and the suspense just kept on giving and I was so here for it all!
Well here as in...
On the edge of my seat.
In saying that though.... I really don't want to give too much of the plot away as you really need to just dive in and follow this story from Book 1.
hmm myself and Piper still have a little love/hate relationship but it probably swayed more towards love in this book. Although, I can't deny I may have been begging for her just listen to Timofey for a hot minute because then maybe she would stop placing herself in danger.
But then would we have a story if she listened? Probably not. haha..

Nicole Fox really is a mafia queen.
I really enjoyed this action packed, steamy and suspenseful mafia romance!
I'm looking forward to seeing what she brings us next!

If the first one was bad, the second one is worse! Absolutely ridiculous! She’s a CPS officer??!!! She let her best friend kidnap a 6 month old baby and doesn’t care about him? Besides lacking basic empathy skills she’s absolutely a shit of a person (excuse my language). And the MMC, your son is missing and you go to Mexico? Really? As far as plot goes so far everything is as expected.

They obviously ignore a missing infant and want to celebrate a birthday???!!! Are they that out of touch out of reality? How is she that clueless about the real world? If I knew my best friend was responsible for an infants (possible death) kidnapping I would walk into the police station and make sure they are never out. Doesn’t matter if I knew the infant or not! Who the hell would protect a kidnapper, that too of an infant?!

The book ends exactly as you expect it to end, the bad guys dead and the FMC and MMC get a HEA. But it was one of the most frustrating books I’ve ever had the delight to read.

How do I write this review with no spoilers?! This is probably my favorite ending from any of the duets from Nicole. The twists and turns and back and forts are amazing. She has this way of storytelling that fully immerses you into the story so that everything plays out like a movie and you miss nothing. Timofey and Piper make such an amazing power couple. Piper is one of the most loyal characters that I've seen in a long time ,and Timofey, while I highly disliked him in the first book, completely redeems himself. One of the background characters from book 1 also redeemed themselves completely, but no hints to who they are, you'll have to read and find out yourself :)

If you need some mystery and suspense thrown into your Russian Bratva worlds, all you need to do is pick up one of Nicole's stories. I couldn't ask for more.

Picks up exactly where Whiskey Poison left us. Piper struggles to keep her family and friends safe from Timofey who is certain that Piper is behind Benjamin’s abduction. While Piper begins to see some of the faults in her friends, we’re all astounded by how deep betrayal of one friend can go. Piper is convinced that Benjamin is still alive and out there somewhere, he’s more valuable alive to his enemies than he is dead, and she struggles to find answers on her own when Timofey doesn’t believe or trust her. The end of this book is stunning. We find out if Benjamin can be saved, if the love and relationship between Piper and Timofey can survive and blossom and if Timofey can survive the attempted takeover of his business and Bratva. I love the extended epilogue giving us a peek into their future. These are must read books by Nicole Fox.

When I tell you that I ate up book 1 I truly mean I ate it up… I was dying to get my hands on book 2 Whiskey Pain and let me tell you I was not disappointed I was actually completely blown away! This book picks up where we left off at the end of book 1 and we have non-stop action, drama, suspense basically all the things. Piper this freaking woman was so frustrating like I get what she was trying to do but JFC just listen to what Timofey is saying this man is trying to protect you all day long. Piper seriously gave people to much of herself she puts her trust in the wrong people and continues to do so. This story had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. People that should have been your ride or die are nothing but selfish people that didn’t deserve Piper in their lives. I loved every minute of Timofey and Piper’s story. This duet is a must read!!

Perfection, Powerful, Emotional, Epic Conclusion

Book 2 is just as action packed as book 1. We pick up where Piper & Timofey’s story left off in book 1. Piper is trying to find out what has happened in her crazy life. She knows no matter where she goes Timofey will find her…but she has to try and make him listen and hear what she has to say.

Timofey is beyond frustrated and his son is missing and he blames Piper for everything. He has to find his son but he still cares for Piper but he feels betrayed!

Kreshnik Xhuvani and Sergey Viktorov are still in play and are causing trouble everywhere they go! This is an action packed story that will leave you on the edge of your seat as everything plays out. Shocks and surprises arise throughout and you will love how it all comes together! Happy Reading!!
